    Well, I’m a 73 year old Car Guy and the owner of a 2017 F Type R Convertible and on these Kentucky Curvy Backroads with the top down it doesn’t get ANY better than this. This Car is a Beautiful, Roaring, Super Sounding Exhaust and is Glued to the Road. It’s the Best Automobile I’ve owned for having a Weekend Sunny Drive to play around with. Super Thrilling Every Time I drive it, even to the Grocery Store.

    I don’t think the F-type has anything to worry about. Anyone who buys a corvette over an F-type probably thinks shorts with white socks and black shoes is a good fashion choice.

    Car design is subjective and I personally think that the F-Type is stunning much more interesting than a Porsche. Yes the Porsche might have better statistics but for 99.9 per cent of the time you will not notice any difference when driving daily, the only time that this would be an issue would be on a track day. Jaguar make great cars, it's a shame that the XJ was discontinued but the SUV fad is a must for any car company that wants to survive, people want them and every car manufacturer is building them so you can't blame Jaguar for following the trend. Ha ha...and yes, I do own a Jaguar and I love it!

      I agree with your point on the discontinuation of the XJ. The 1986 XJ 6 in British Racing Green was my first introduction to Jaguar. It was a stunningly elegant car. I’m not a fan of the new SUVs amongst any of the manufacturers with the exception of Range Rover. I’m very sorry to hear Jaguar is once again canceling a classic series. I hope that they ease into the electric vehicle market with a hybrid. I hate to witness the end of that beautiful cat like exhaust note. Modern hype ruins a lot of things! Please listen Jaguar!

      @@earlmcandrew4583There’s no easing in…They’ve gone with the all or nothing approach apparently. Seems like a potentially dangerous move business-wise to me, but what do I know. Surely they know there is a market for the segment they will be aiming at. If they don’t and they are still moving forward with their plan, then they basically deserve to die as a company…Survival of the fittest and all that…Time will tell I guess….I have read several times that the very affluent love to spend hoards of cash on these EVs, and the pandemic has shown that it is possible to sell a lesser number of vehicles at higher price points and still prosper…I think this is their game plan…

    • @dlj1285
      @dlj1285 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Porsche will be better on a track but if the track is your focus there are better options than a 911. If you want a street car both are great. The Jag might actually be the more comfortable of the 2 for street. The big thing you will notice for daily driving is the fact that the F-type will not be competing with a Dyson vacuum cleaner like the 911 is. So there are tangible differences that someone only streeting the car could enjoy over the 911. Looks and sound is in the favour of the Jag. The looks is opinion. The sound really isn't. Anyone with ears can't hear who the winner is there. All this said, I personally still quite enjoy that classic shape of the 911. First world problems having to choose between cars like this.

  • @billmiller7340
    @billmiller7340 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    The F-Type is not a car that you get into, this is a car that you put on! When you get into the car first you adjust the seat for your legs and it fits my long ones. Then you adjust the sides of the seat till it hugs you just right. Once you are wearing the car it responds to your every wish. Leaving a stop sign you simply pull away, it accelerates so smoothly other cars will watch your tail lights as you drive away without spinning the tires. Yes I have owned it for 5 years now and I will be wearing it for several years to come.

    • @keyser456
      @keyser456 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you say is all true and I love my R, but part of that feeling of wearing the car is the fact you have almost no room in the cabin -- for anything. You can fit two people, and that's it -- okay, maybe two small drinks in the cup-holders. Almost nothing fits in the arm-rest storage. The trunk for non-verts is good sized, enough for a set of golf-clubs or mid-sized luggage, but forget it in the cabin. Going from vehicles w/ a back-seat to this two-seater w/ no storage in the cabin is a massive adjustment. Even little things like sun-glasses, wallet, cell-phones & chargers, garage door openers, etc. You run out of room quick. I'd go so far as to say it was even a bit claustrophobic for me at first. Once you get used to it, you definitely wear the vehicle -- it wraps you and just goes in whatever direction you point it, and it does so quickly. I've only owned mine for about a year -- '16 AWD Coupe w/ ~23k miles on the clock. We're about to have a second kid and I'm deciding if I can justify having a two-seater fun-car like this w/ a soon-to-be family of four. It's simply not usable for anything other than pleasure-driving and/or solo trips. I suppose that's most two-seaters, but I don't get that same feeling in my coworker's Audi R-something or another's Merc AMG something-or-other, both two-seaters. Maybe I'm just getting old. :)

    FYI- The F-Type SVR (I happen to own one) hits 60 in 2.9 secs- this new R has that very same engine. I've managed this succesfully. Jag's official stated time of 3.5 secs is very conservative. The AWD puts the power down instantly and I've beaten out C8s and even a Ferrari 488 from a standstill.

    Good review except: 1. The F Type R that you tested is a great value because the old in SVR trim was about $15,000 more the same performance and less technology. 2. The interior ergonomics of the F-Type is the best of any sports at any price. You can make ALL adjustments without taking you eyes off the road. The Corvette is to complex and too many buttons in awkward places and the passenger has no access to the infotainment. 3. It is disingenuous for reviewers to keep comparing the Corvette based on msrp when the car sells for $15,000 more IF you can find one. So in reality a Corvette cost about the same and you get less. The Jag is has the best exhaust of ANY car on the market, it is more prestigious and it’s all wheel drive which means it’s safer and can be used all year long. I cross shopped both vehicles and could not justify paying $15,000 more for the privilege of buying a Chevy with a push rod engine that only an American would call high tech, and they were not letting anyone test drive the car and suggested we watch a TH-cam video. The big problem with this craziness is that when you go for service, you are still going to a Chevy dealership and some fresh out of high school guy is gonna joy ride your $100k plus car.
    Meanwhile, the Jag had no mark up, they gave me the keys to take it for a test AND I could order it custom exactly the way I wanted it including options I created which American cars don’t offer that. The only car that compares to the F-Type is the AMG GT. Not having a back seat is a unique experience and the 911 can’t offer that and the Cayman is a step down. Car reviews are gonna be a lot easier when everyone goes electric because most cars will be the same. Good luck.

      Man, it's like you went for a trip through my head and pulled out all my thoughts ;-) Malibu dealerships servicing Corvettes. Yup. The design of this car is timeless. The boy racer look of the corvette C8 is not gonna stand the test of time. I seriously think the audience for these 2 cars are very different, they're prioritizing different things in the purchase, etc...If money spent was a priority, and you could truly get a C8 for the MSRP, then I suppose it could be a harder option to ignore. Not for me, but would be more compelling...I sat in one of these F-type Rs...Anyone who thinks that cabin, particularly in full leather trim (which this one in this video is not I think), is low rent needs a head shake...C8 interior is quite nice, but in my opinion the jag interior is more classy...My thoughts only...The other advantage that the F-type has is that the problems in it are not many, it's a pretty flushed out car with a super reliable engine and transmission that has a solid track record. God only knows the problems that are lurking in these corvette, regular C8 or Z06 variants, and GM has a propensity for ignoring and not fixing design flaws. Watched a couple videos lately where they mentioned there are thousands and thousands of transmission failures in the base C8 car, and the Z06s have significant issues that are slowly starting to come out as well. All this said, I still think GM has done something pretty remarkable with the new Corvette generally, especially if the problems stabilize and there are no continued problems that plague these cars into the future.

    In our areas, Porsches seem as numerous as Toyotas, with all the 911 variants blurring into "yet another Porsche" whether they're $50K or $250K. Yes, on-track, the 911 will be faster, but what about when not on-track? I think that it's wrong - or at least odd - to compare the two. The 911 is a hardcore sports car, what the F-Type is a true GT car, as in Grand Touring, not racing. It's kinda of like comparing a 911 to a truck and concluding that the 911 would suck off-road - it misses the point. For me, the early F-Type is so mind-boggingly beautiful in comparison to anything else I could afford, that I bought a used 2015 R. No regrets - and no, I Never thought I'd own a Jag!

    Great review - thanks for making it. Jaguar doesn't have to worry about customers cross-shopping for a Porsche or a Corvette. At that price point, they already have their minds made up and know what they want. Nobody is going to consider a Jaguar if they have a Porsche 911 on their radar. They can afford what they want and will not settle. Jaguar's biggest problem is Jaguar itself. The company is committing corporate suicide by announcing it will go all electric by 2025. The world is not ready for "all electric" yet and as a result their sales will tank even lower. Gas powered cars still sell big and Jaguar will be missing the boat. Another issue that Jaguar has is that they have no brains when it comes to capitalizing in their heritage. Porsche never stopped selling the 911 because the name is legendary and they know that is what the people want. Hey Jaguar, how about bringing back the E-Type and get people excited about the brand again? Also, fire your current designers and redo your lineup. The current XF and SUV's are boring and nobody wants them. Even KIA has cars that look better. How embarrassing is that???

Going with the Jag in the end, as it ticks more boxes in terms of what I'm looking for, but the 911 is a nice car for sure. They are very different experiences I think, but I think a lot of folks DO cross shop them. I also considered a Z06 briefly, as theoretically its in the same price range, but it is not in reality with all the price games being played around the car, availability problems, etc...I think people do cross shop all these cars. Either is a fine choice depending on what your goals and budget are in reality. Inevitably there will be snobs out there that view Porsche as the only answer, which is just a completely ridiculous stuck up stance to take quite frankly...More often than not these comments are coming from clowns that cannot afford either, which makes it even more ridiculous and pathetic. Better looking than an F-type? It’s going to age quickly? Please. Ithe F-type is widely regarded as one of the best looking designs of all time, penned by Ian Callum, designer of some of the most beautiful Aston Martins. It’s been one of the best looking cars on the road for almost ten years now, it’s a modern day classic following in the footsteps of the E-type predecessor. The design is timeless.
      The C8 Corvette, on the other hand, is plain ugly, especially compared to previous Vettes. It’s got poor proportions and a cheap boy racer aesthetic. The C7 was much better looking, but still not as beautiful as the F-type.

    • @dlj1285
      @dlj1285 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@silentstormstudios I agree, I think time will show that the C7 holds up better design-wise than the C8. That is already the case for me. At first I received the look of the C8 well, but after a very short period it got old fast. The Z06 looks much better to my eye, but I think time will not be kind to it either in the looks department.
      I think there is general consensus out there that the F-type is on a whole other level design-wise than a Corvette. Any Corvette, to date anyway. This only makes sense. A Jag is generally more expensive comparing it to a base C8 car (ADM issues aside), which is the most fair comparison. Design was definitely prioritized in the product that is the F-type. It’s undeniable.
      To be clear, when I see C7s on the road they look pretty good to me. Just not F-type good, or Aston Martin Vantage good. Some will degree, which is completely fine, but the majority out there agree from what I can see.

      I don't find it repulsive, but I definitely feel the same as you about the C8 interior (despite it being much improved). It's not bad, but I just find the F-type interior to be better styled. I think a lot of people just can't look past the lower tech in the Jag, that's all they can see and focus on. It's what you want in the end. I could care less about the tech being behind a bit in the Jag. It brings other elements that are more important in my purchase.

    The Lexus LC500 is surely a better vehicle in nearly every sense, beside maybe 0-60 time. But that is excused by the far superior material and build quality.

    • @truthseeker0077
      @truthseeker0077 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I don't think so. Since its launch, the LC500 has always sold poorly compared to F-Type's best years in the last decade - for a reason. The LC's chassis is all steel, other than the roof components. The suspension components and sub-frames are Toyota corporate recycling bin parts from cheaper models, such as the RC's. Most importantly, the LC has a terrible 10-speed automatic transmission that shifts confusingly and is particularly heavy, even for its GT dimensions. In contrast, the F-Type has a bespoke all-aluminum double-wishbone suspension configuration, and all-aluminum chassis. With the F-Type, you get your money's worth in bill of materials. With the LC500, you really do not get your money's worth in component materials used, other than the thin veneer of its interior materials. Check underbody analysis of LC500 and you will be surprised how Toyota used cheap materials and old parts from other Toyota models.

      I love the LC500, it’s a beautiful car and sounds and drives great. But compared to the F-type, it’s an old fogie car. It’s luxurious, but a bit soft. The f-type is a monster and a bit frightening. I’m 53 and bought a 2015 F-type R. I figure I should buy it now while I’m still young enough to enjoy it. Maybe when I’m 60 I’ll look for something akin to the LC500.
