    Great stuff! A trick I figured out if your hole goes off center when drilling (even though you center punched): Recenter with a blunt, but tapered, carbide burr in an angle grinder. It'll quickly eat a new center.

    Mibro Speed Steels are the bits to chew up metal and hardened bolts. Find a machinist that works in a shop, he can get you some from there tool crib.

    One thing I've learned over the years is that a broken bolt is easy to remove, but a bolt that broke because it was cross threaded is not coming out, ever. It will need to be drilled and tapped. There are some good jig fixtures for most applications to do it best.
    I learned how to use a torch years ago working for Midas. Learned to cut pipes out of pipes without hurting the outer or inner pipe as well as cutting clamps off with the torch and melting nuts off of studs. Gets a lot easier when you are using the torch half the day. :)

    You're right about Eric O's torch skills. Man o man, he's amazing with it. I love watching him use that thing. I always thought he should do a video on using the torch because he's definitely got some interesting techniques.

    I have the snap on thread kit. Have used it to restore oil pans and lug studs. One of the other techs borrowed it and broke one of the dies. Trying to cut new threads. They wouldn't warranty it. So I had to buy a new one. Only $5 but I feel it should have been warranted. New tech tip, lock you box for your days off.

  • @brianrodemeier5786
    @brianrodemeier5786 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When drilling and extracting a bolt. If your off center when you get to the threads...no problem. Just use a 1/8 deburing bit to cut it in half. And pick it out with a punch and small needle nose pliers. Then retread or heli coil

    FRM- I gotta convince you of ONE good thing from HF. The Cobalt Hercules drill bits are perfectly good for pro use, drilling hard bolts, etc. I got ahold of a hardness tester and some Irwin bits. They’re hRder than M35 But softer than M42. And the 115pc set is a great value at $100. They sharpen well in my drill doctor. I’ve been using them a long time. I won’t argue for a second about their cheaper bits.

    If you are lucky to have welder in the shop, you can also do the welding the nut to the stud method. That heat can also help loosen up the rust.

    Fyi with the vw/audi 2.0t intake mani bolts, if u have one that's stripped, u can use a slightly longer bolt due the fact there are some threads at the bottom of the hole that the oe length bolts don't touch. I believe OE is 70mm long and i use 75mm. Works perfectly, especially the fact that the Torque spec Is 9nM.

    I've seen a lot of guys do that. Mostly for exhaust manifold stud extraction.

    And don't loan your punch sets to the other technicians...they use your center punches for drift punches...then you no longer have center punches. Oh and all of your chisel will be broken as well.

    Most of the time drilling and using an easy out does not work at all.Either drill in too far and the easy out breaks off.Mig welder and a handful of nuts works good saving time not drilling and using an easy out
