I thought Richard was a phenomenal frontman early on but as time went on his ego became hard to miss. Early on he would also let the music breath more by not singing constantly. I always viewed Urban Hymns prior to reading the above article as a Ashcroft solo record backed by members of Verve. I've also heard about Richard preventing the release of unreleased material so that he could use it for his solo efforts. Regardless, Richard was set on doing solo stuff, and the performance of that solo career could have been the catalyst for the reunion. Regarding the paranoia that Nick mentions one could only wonder if that has anything to do with the diagnosis Richard received of depression (and of course it's none of our business). The belief that only Nick has, or had, issues with Richard is false... But long story short there were a lot of reasons why Nick, Si, and Pete have each had their falling outs with Richard.
Simon Jones is an underrated bassist 🙂

His drumming is so underrated in every Verve song. The grooves he and Simon just casually crank out are so key to their unique feel, and you'll hear almost no drummer drum how he does

Honestly i have no words to describe what this kind of songs by the verve makes me feel.. I look into those 108 thousands views and i just cant accept it, It's so unfair, the lyrics, effects and music, it's all so perfect and much, much better stuff than stuff known from much bands.. tho music it's not a competition, I feel this band doesn't gets credit enough..

Outstanding song, for the life of me I don't understand why a) these weren't released in some capacity in 97 and b) didn't surface on the box set in 2017. Could of all been consigned to the bin. Good on the guy who released them.

I've never heard of this song it just popped up randomly. If theres a song that is for the soul its this one and who feels love by oasis. Feels like your levitating to heaven itself. Fucken brilliant tune
One of the few bands or artists that constantly put out B-sides that were better than the singles in many respects. And the singles are flipping fantastic too so that means the B-sides are hitting strides and reaching heights that most bands or musicians only ever get to dream about!

Richard didn't want to include them with the other songs.
rrliled Not true, they were recorded before UH was released although they recorded not long before the album was finished. The idea was to use some of these tracks on the next album which never materialised. Hence why “All Ways Are Maybes” isn’t on UH. They didn’t need another single for UH and it was too good to be an album track or b-side, so they hung onto it.
StormyClouds I thought This was a B-Side to urban hymns though, in the description it said During UH was released

@@Maverick-gu6uy It was recorded in 1997 whilst they were recording Urban Hymns but this track was never actually released in any official capacity although it was supposed to be released in 2017 as part of the Urban Hymns Deluxe edition, but one member of the band refused to allow it to be included, so it didn't end up being released.

the line is basically saying that this person's influence on Ashcroft is so strong that it affects him deeply, and it's not something that goes away quickly. It's like they leave a lasting impression on Ashcroft's thoughts and emotions.

How are NONE of these lost tracks on the UH deluxe anniversary box set???
Or are they stashing them away for a deluxe reissue of the Forth album!!!
They belong to the Urban Hymns sessions so i can't imagine them being released on any Forth sets in the future.
3 members of the band wanted them including on the UH boxset. The tracks were even mastered ready for inclusion. All Ways are Maybes was going to be released as a promo single for the boxset. Until 1 member flat out refused to sign off on their inclusion and thus they didn't appear on the boxset.
