I really love how this season shows us Thorfinn becoming a better person in contrast to Canute's descent into darkness. The character development is off the charts!
When Canute talked about how even when they were kids, everyone in the castle got divided and competitive over who will be the next king, when both Canute and Harald themselves was not competitive at all and quite friendly with each other...It reminds me when fans fight over which celebrities are better but the celebrities themselves don't hold anything towards each other and is probably even friends. It's a weird comparison but that's what I felt like.
Notice the side eye the man gave Canute at the docks when he said his brother was so helpful to him and he needed to thank him. He was probably Canute's inside guy for the poisoning.
The AOT tree, just like the tree here in Vinland, or the tree in Berserk is based off Norse mythology. Its the world tree (Yggdrasill) its supports all the universe and the nine realms exist around it. It basically supports all reality, but anyway great reaction ladies !
There one in berserk is not just a representation of norse mythology but of different types of trees from different mythologies even in the manga pages it's safe miura mentions several morld trees from different myths including norse, yoruba,Chinese and hindu 8 thought that was cool
Love how Canute says "call me your majesty" & Estrid just ignores him. Lmao. Also, glad they showed Canute & Harald's as kids. Idk why but I genuinely thought they hated each other purely based off of how Sweyn treated Canute.
Makoto Yukimura, Vinland Saga mangaka quoting from Ecclesiastes(Eh-Klee-see-ah-steez) is the equivalent of a Western author quoting from esoteric, convoluted sections of Buddhist scripture. Subtle, but a gargantuan flex. The author demonstrates he’s probably read the entire Bible from front to back multiple times. Thorough understanding of the moral subject material that has captured pre-Christian Nordic “Geist”/Spirit/Will(no accurate translation). Makoto Yukimura Understands, it deeper, better than most self-professed contemporary Americans. Impressive, yet also very frightening. The thing you have to keep in mind when watching anime is the majority of these source materials are drawn and WRITTEN by ONE person. Absolutely impressive. The difference in caliber, depth, sophistication between contemporary Western authors and Japanese authors is so stark it almost leads me to believe Japanese mangaka are of a different(higher/over) species.
That's way over simplifying things because the only thing that is written by one person in the west is super hero comic books almost everything else comes from one person just like Japanese manga so i dont know what you're talking about
@psycho98 I guess he's just impressed that these stories (anime) mostly originate from one person. Whereas a lot of western series have multiple writers. I mean, I was just as impressed when I discovered like 95% of anime come from manga or light novels with a single creator. Doesn't happen often here
@@bakagakure6435 thats the same here in the west except for super hero comic books that are from marvel and DC, for example the comic invincible is written by one person or hell its all by one person or the sandman etc
Excellent notice by Morgan on how the character trajectory of our characters mirrors one another in different directions. Thornfinn is ascending more into the light and becoming a positive person. While Canute is slipping into darkness and walking down a more negative path. It is both very beautiful tragic and poetic to see.
This show is great at showing how different people from differente backgrounds can lose their way in life due to different reasons. Thorfin s descent was triggered by pain and revenge. Canute´s descent was triggered by much more noble causes - creating utopia. In the end its not important what the cause it, the issue is when it enslaves you . The moment a cause enslaves you, you become isolated in your own pursuit of your dream, isolations often leads to losing perspective...and without perspective we all get lost.
As much as I truly enjoy Thornfinn's story and his character development. I really love when the story focuses Canute. His quest to become king of England, Denmark, and Norway has led him down a very ruthless and dark path. He seems damn near willing to solidify his position and power. King Canute is no joke.
Woah that's cool. I just noticed that even when the screen is opaque i see the episode clearly from the reflection of the ytube play button. Hope this helps
"Probably not without violence" You just perfectly caught on to the true themes that Vinland Saga explores (whcih becoems clearer as the series prgresses) and you don´t even relzie it.
As soon as Keitl said Thorfinn and Einar had to wait till he returned I believed he would never return. No matter which of his sons inherit the farm, it's not going to go well.

You don't even know how right you are. He is the only person Canute trusts.
nah, did you already forgot about the guy that he made a deal with and entrusted to poison the other king just to retain his land?
😂😂
