    I read a book that suggests when she died Anne was 35, but yes still could have had more children. Henry contracted syphilis or something that causes long periods of infertility and maybe contributed to miscarriages. Henry was determined not to be the reason he had no son. Also Anne wanted to make changes religion-wise that Henry didn't.

    • @brontewcat
      @brontewcat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Most historians are pretty sure Henry did not have syphilis. There were well known remedies for it. Henry was not ever treated with those remedies (unlike the French king). There is no reason to think Henry was infertile. His first three queens all fell pregnant relatively easily, but the problem was carrying the baby to term.

    The actress who plays Anne in this is one of the most accurate portrayals of her (except for the hair, Anne had dark auburn hair, not black or brown hair), but the rest fits nicely with what is said of her appearance. Dark expressive eyes, wide mouth, olive skin complexion, slim and attractive.

      It's so hard to tell exactly what people looked like back then because every painter used that same renaissance style when doing portraits. I have a feeling she was way more beautiful in person. No way she could steal the king's heart like she did and make him literally split from the church in order to marry her unless her beauty was unmatched!

      Yea, nature played a cruel trick on Ann. Had she just given him a healthy son, her position as queen would have been assured for the rest of her NATURAL life! @@jpman9795 Opinions were divided on her attractiveness due to her unpopularity. She was also not considered beautiful by Tudor standard. The women considered most beautiful at the time had fair skin, fair hair, blue eyes and were voluptuous. Anne had dark hair, dark eyes, sallow or olive skin and was slim.

    • @brinirose7302
      @brinirose7302 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Anne is less known for her attractiveness than for her wit. She had dark, captivating eyes, but it was her mind, her banter and cleverness, and the way she played the long game (by flirting with Henry and not sleeping with him when he first requested) that caused Henry to fall in love with her. Although as others have said, it is impossible to know for sure exactly what she looked like because of secondhand accounts in letters (some written some time after her death). Also, Henry had all the portraits of her that could be found destroyed as soon as she died to make way for Jane Seymour. So historians are not 100% sure if any remain from when she was alive.

Jane fully knew what she was doing and whispered nasty tales into the Kings ear about Anne, whether this was at the behest if her family or Anne's enemies, or to fufill her own agenda and honestly i wouldnt put it past her she was not without ruthlessness and ambition but she was far more subtle about the whole debacle than Anne ever was.

      While Jane is widely credited to have Mary restored to favour, it was because it was part if the deal, poor Elizabeth was completely ignored and neglected to the point where her governess, Lady Bryan was begging for new clothes as she had 'neither kirtle nor cloak nor petticoat'. She was invited to court for special occasions, but largely ignored and disregared out of sight. Admittedly Anne Boleyn was no better with the cruel way with which Catherine and Mary were treated, but I agree non of the wives were completely innocent, Expect Catherine of Aragon amd Anne of Cleves i suppose.

      Catherine of Aragon was no English commoner like Anne. She was a princess of Spain, the daughter of two powerful monarchs - Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile. If Henry had executed Catherine, he would have embroiled England in a war with Spain and possibly the Holy Roman Empire whose ruler was her nephew Charles V and likely ostracized by the other European rulers of the time as well.

    When Anne went to the scaffold,she received a royal execution; the scaffold was covered in purple cloth, she had a cushion to protect her knees and there was a long bow chest to put her body in. Because Catherine Howard was stripped of her queen ship, she had to kneel on straw, take her chances with the axe, she wrapped in black cloth and buried in the ground . Anne was never relieved of her title, therefore she received the privileges she did.
    The French swordsman meant it was done very quickly once she was kneeling and blindfolded. The executioner didn't dress in a mask, but dressed in the traditional clothing that didn't mark him out, and kept the sword hidden until everything was ready.
