I'm glad it helped you do yours. I love the way they look fully polished. Look around for rub on decals. I got some on etsy and it really makes them look finished.

I was the same way. I finally decided to take the chance. I recommend labeling or marking everything especially the screws. Take pictures and you'll be fine. Good luck!

You can get all the Screen prints as Stickers, Like the ones You put Into water and then Slide gently on Models. That would have been the only thing stopping Me from doing something like this. Nice job, they do look Awesome.

Hey man, any good ideas on cleaning a really dirty, gross tonearm? The tonearm base is crusted with dust and dirt. Should I take the tonearm off to clean it?

I wonder how that aircraft paint remover would work on the tonearm base. Some meatball painted all on the tonearm base and the counterweight and the cuing lever. I used acetone on the weight, but I didn't like it.

Hard work and dedication to make it look like that.💯👑🎚 Panasonic missed the boat with the Technics 1200MK7. New and old generations would have paid for the updated same design over engineered, yet correcting some more of the niggles of old like adding easy change pop up light. Selling without breakable dust covers, limited Apple type colour scheme finishes. Then you could argue it is worth $999 and beyond.

Nice work bro! I wonder if after removing the paint you could actually paint it again with those small spray paint? Do you need to sand it all before paiting ?
I will do the serigraphy using laser, it’s cheaper and keeps the original letter and marks of the surface.
You can definitely paint them again. There's other videos on how to paint or powder coat them. For paint you don't have to go all the way down to the metal, just get them smooth.
I love this, and perhaps it looks good without, but following the polish there are of course no decals/labels on the different controls. Curious if you've used any aftermarket labels.
any labels that don't just look like a sticker stuck on require a top coat of paint. they are rub on labels that look amazing but they come off with the slightest scratch, they are designed to be put on after painting and polishing but before the clear coat on top. wouldn't work for the mirror finish. they have some stick on metal badges that look good but it is a different look.

Great video. I am going to do this to one of my SL1200's right now. Love the result. Just one question. From my experience doing this on motorcycle and bicycle parts made of aluminum, the surface tends to oxidize and get dull over time. Have you noticed this?
It's the paint remover try sandblasting much quicker than this technique for prep work

The only problem with polishing aluminium is it oxidises very fast. Fingerprints turn it black. Over a few days it goes dull and every mark shows up. Unless you clear coat the thing your going to constantly be cleaning them up

You would need to finish with a few coats of clear lacquer to maintain that finish, otherwise the metal will oxidize and will look crap if he doesn't polish it every few weeks, the lacquer will "seal" the metal and stop corrosion and/or oxidization.

Thanks it looks awesome. What level of sanding and polishing would you need to go for priming and powder coating.
I was originally going to prime and paint, I think all you have to do for that is get them smooth and even. It's not necessary to go through all the real fine sandpaper. There's a couple of videos on you tube that show how to do that. Good luck.

@@Wheel333 I would suggest scotch brite (discs, pads etc.) first go with 80/ 120, then straight to 280. These numbers can vary +/- 20 depending on a provider, but you are good to go anyways. And use discs on angle grinder or drill if you know what you are doing, otherwise use your hands to avoid major mistakes
So I inherited some nasty corroded 1200's and think I might want to try this, but all the aluminum parts on the tone arm base are kinda gross and pitted and whatnot... Yours look pretty nice! Any tips/tricks for cleaning those up as well? Thought about taking apart the tonearm assembly, but that would only be a very last resort

It's a bit tedious, but you can definitely take the tone arm apart. I did it on one of mine. There's a couple of videos on how to do it.

Dear sir, I am recently purchased 120X usb model, kindly reply total body plastic or metal.
Fantastic finish.. I can see only one downside. With no protective sealing you will be forever polishing them to maintain the finish as the aluminium oxidises.
It hasn't been too bad so far. They stay in the flight cases most of the time. I polish them every so often with aluminum polish and a microfiber cloth. I'm considering eventually taking them back apart and putting a clear coat on them. Well see 🤷♂️

I'm doing this to a set of 1200s right now - and making vids! Yours look ace, however I want to go full on mirror finish, so I'm redoing mine to get rid of all the teeny imperfections, gonna leave the edges satin on mine, but get the top 100% mirror. I'm also replacing the lettering then doing a clear coat to protect it all! I'll then post my vid! Oh I'm Doing blue LEDs too! Might go with black pitch trims though so it doesn't look like I copied you! I actually already started then found your vid. I did mine by hand but when I redo them I'll use a buffing machine

@@MrFergalobrien I used a similar process to Antonio really, chemical paint stripper, then 240 grit sandpaper, then 400 grit sand paper then 800 grit then 1500, all sanding done using a cork block and soaking the sanding paper with WD-40 to prevent clogging up... then polish, it was pretty good, but I'm going to go back down to 1000 grit on a polishing attachment on a drill as I'm after total mirror shine should be completing mine this weekend. It should be note that EU law means that paint strippers are a lot more rubbish for us as they have mandated lower level of the active ingredient. I had to help my paint strip along with wire wool and scrubbing at it. It's hard work no two ways about it

@@MrFergalobrien hydorah is right, you start with coarse sandpaper to try and get the paint all off. Once you are down to bare metal you gradually move to more fine sandpaper. I ended it with 3000 or 5000 if you can find it. Then used aluminum polish I mixed with them recently and they still look great all I had to do was wipe the dust off. Good luck

WOW!!!!! I ;mm in the process of redoing my technic and had a bright idead. . . I should polish them. . . however it seems you are the only on the entire interent who has came up with this idea. . .lol Just a question? Do you know how long a polished finish will last? can you clear coat it to make it last longer?
I keep mine in travel cases, and remove the dust after each use. It's been over a year and they still look great. It's no different than keeping aluminum wheels polished. You can definitely clear coat them,. I also have some rub on decals that I'm going to upload another video on how to apply. Thank for watching!

you need to sand them, cos most of the time, they are corroded and you can not polish them. And to make them better visible under red LED, they need to have horizontal visible scratches. And dont forget to regularly degrease them to stop corrosion manifesto

Raw polished aluminum is very sensitive to abrasions & scratches. I'd get it chromed like a shiny bumper for only $75.

Good job, but I think that you have to coat the aluminium with two coats of lacquer, otherwise the aluminium oxidises and the lustre justs fades away.
I agree and considered it. I just polish them with aluminum polish every so often and haven't had any issues with oxidation.

While it does “rust” technically, the higher the polish the fewer pits to allow the oxidation. Go high polish and like he said, use cream on it once in a while.

As cool as it looks I would not want to remove all the original manufacture's decals from my tables. I just couldn't do it.
Looks great, but I don't think I have the heart to do it too mine, I'll just get plate covers.
I considered jus getting plates, but wanted to tune them up change the LEDs and fix a couple of other issues. The paint was really bad so I said what the heck.

How long does it take to attract fingerprints?
They get finger prints fairly easily. They wipe off easily too though.

Better buy a very good looking second hand MK2 under a 1000 Box.
Going from a 5000 grit sandpaper to a 0000 steel wool seems like a step in the wrong direction. 0000 is roughly a 400 grit, but has a very different sanding pattern. I am certainly not arguing with your results, but if you inserted the 0000 earlier in the process, you might have saved a little time.

Exactly, it fit very well, but after the 5000 sandpaper I could either a 7000 sandpaper or directly sponge it with Detalling polishing paste with a rotary-orbital machine, so I did it and there was no scratch left. Good job anyway

Dont be! Just follow the tutorial and really dont forget to do all the sides on all the sanding steps. And dont sand the edges before you come to grid around 300 (280). And use waterproof sanding paper.

How to make the decks Polish? Why would I want to make them Polish? They are already German and owned by a Japanese conglomerate. Making them Polish would just make them grumpy.
you should buy techniques, polish them, then sell them for a fat profit online............they will sell.
