    People are missing out on the C4 corvette. I have a super nice 94 polo coupe and it's a great fun car. People just assume you only get a c4 because they're cheap . I was in High school in the early 90s and this was the car to have .

    • @Feral80sKid

      They really are, agreed. I used to pass a red, parked 87 on my way to high school every morning (late 90's), drove a 78 Firebird Formula at the time lol, wanted that C4 bad. I do like the sound/quality of Borla, can't go wrong:)

    Great cars, I really loved mine. It was sold not too long ago, 1989 with 26,000 miles on it. Due to a decline in my physical well being I no longer could take care of it in the manner in which it deserved to be kept. The high price of somebody else maintaining it was out of the question as well as finding a person wanting to work on "old technology". Plus, I'm not comfortable with others wrenching on my Corvette. No regrets though, I had 21 great years with that car.

    The c4's suspension, brakes, and irs setup are damn near perfect. Sure you buy an 89 corvette and the suspension, engine etc... is all gonna be worn out, the archaic efi is gonna be finicky with the wiring having petrified, so outside of a low mi example, you'll have some work ahead, but parts are cheap relatively anyway. And if performance is your thing, these cars will accept an Ls of whatever description or building the factory L98 out to 400hp 400lbft is about as straight forward as it gets. Only thing I'd recommend as an absolute is replacing the factory ecu with a programmable stand alone system and the wiring (old wiring will make you hate any car). These aren't obd2 until 1996 so no plugging in from 95 on back to 84. And ecu choices for those who don't want to drop $1000 on a holley unit or ...etc... Fitech, Black Aces, Speeduino etc.. all offer stand alone ecu's with the features of the big name bucks up deals at a fraction of the price

    My biggest issue with the C4 is ingress and egress for the car requires a bit of gymnastics which I currently can handle even into my 50s but it really makes the C4 more of a young persons car due to this. I think the sweet spot for the Corvette is the C5 and C6 which still remain relatively affordable so long as you steer clear of the specialty models. Those models are much easier to get in and out of plus they are modern while still feeling old school. The C7 is a great vehicle but feels less old school and the C8 is in a whole other stratosphere in terms of driving experience and price.

It's popped loose because of the broken clips, so I have to lean on it to clip it back. I also need a left rear speaker/ amp assembly, and finally, I'm waiting for a new 52 mm throttle body. Hope to hear back. Thanks. BTW....Mine is the same color. Competition Yellow. And I need a new glass roof. It cracked in the middle. I lived in Columbus, OH to.😊

      @Feral80sKid  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Right on my friend, and congrats! You're already starting off better than I did, I had a basketcase 1984 LOL. So the door panel if the new clips are able to be secured well I'd just re use that if it's in nice shape, did just see a nice see through targa on a C4 Facebook forum for $500 shipped, they varied a bit but might fit your 96 (great year C4 btw) If not try Ebay, sometimes great deals pop up on all kinds of C4 parts. Also get on C4 forums on Facebook, tons of good parts there, just do Paypal only, no friends and family so you're safe from scams. A fellow Ohioan huh, it has it's ups and downs, thankfully I don't drive like a lot of them xD As far as the speakers/amps go it can get expensive to replace em all etc., I've only had to replace the control unit but if you're not too concerned about keeping it all original I'd wire the speakers to an aftermarket head unit, if not have a stereo shop with experience do it:) Throttle body will give you a few hp and better response, I love LT1's too, had a 94 Z28 6 speed that was a lot of fun.

      @Feral80sKid Thank you. I'm thinking of a relens, but I would be without a targa roof for about 10 days due to shipping back and forth to Melrose T Tops in Illinois. I'm taking the left speaker out, and maybe I can hope for a loose wire 🙂 I need to look into the door panel again. I hear it clip each time I push it back. I'd like to see a video on repairing door panels on a '96 C4. I'm looking for more videos on C4's from you. Thank you.

    Beautiful C4. Never had an L98, but I drove some of my friends in local Corvette clubs, very strong from the bottom.
    I had all LT1s 92-96 in every color except yellow... ALWAYS loved the look of the yellows just never worked out, lol. My friends gave me a lot of grief because I traded them a lot. My favorite was a 95 Admiral Blue, it was faster than all of the rest, these cars vary pretty wildly in actual horsepower on the dyno, the Admiral was 319 bone stock. I had 2 black and a 96 LT4 silver collector was my last one with a bone stock horsepower of 344. Gm didnt want to spoil the release of the next gen 97 C5, they knew about the fluctuating HP especially in the LT4s and didn't want to spoil the C5 debut, but it got out pretty quickly when some LT4s were outrunning C5s on occasion in the stoplight grand prix on the street. C4s are my favorite value in a sports car, cant beat em there.
    Enjoyed the video.

And thank you so much for your kindness, glad you liked the video:) I STILL haven't driven an LT1 Corvette but had a 94 Z28 with a 6 speed, love the torque curve, they pull hard to about 6k, you may have just talked me into getting an lt1 C4 hahaha, thanks again for the awesome comment, this is one of my favorites 🤝

      Great comment, I just sold the GR Corolla, loved it but not the price haha. Performance is definitely good enough in these, more so in the 92+ LT1, or even better the 1996 LT4, they pull hard and are underrated in horsepower, amd prices are way less for a clean example than the Corolla or C6, both of those are sweet cars too though. If you do get a 85-91 with the TPI they respond well to mods, hope that helps.

    Really nice to see someone who loves their car!
    I've a 90 too, polo green but I wish the only issue I had was a flickering dash! I got it from Copart which gives you an idea how many things are wrong with it (everything). For some reason I started with the seats. Rebuilt the seat track gearbox, microsurgery on the seat switches, rebuilt the side bolster motor. Seat tracks rusted solid so had to free those. So now I can sit in comfort and imagine what it'll be like when it's fixed up. Look forward to seeing more of your Vette. Regards from across the pond.

      I use mine as a daily driver for the 8 months a year we don't have snow, and so far have only put rear wheel bearings on it ($120), and put about 20k miles a year on it for the last 10 years... tho I do know it'll likely need an optispark in the next couple years, I may have been lucky so far that I haven't had to put one on yet('95-'96 will last a lot longer before needing optispark replaced due to GM adding a vacuum vent hose to it for those 2 years), and the '95-'96 don't squeak or rattle due to GM adding more padding etc behind interior trim panels after complaints of trim noises in earlier years of C4's, and it is a huge difference, a massive difference in interior sweak and rattle noises, it would almost be hard to exaggerate the difference, my '95 is silent inside, my friends '91 is a symphony of rattles and squeaks....

    • @Feral80sKid
      @Feral80sKid  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Really thinking of adding the felt kit that the 95/96 has, does make a big difference you're right. Didn't know there was an actual hose to the vented opti, good info! That's awesome you drive it daily, life isn't easy but driving a C4 every day helps:)

    • @JeTTRod
      @JeTTRod 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Feral80sKid I gotta be honest, but now that you mention it, since I haven't had to replace my optispark yet, I'm really not sure if that vacuum line is factory or if the previous owner added it, but it does look stock. I do know the previous owner added a hose to the underside of the waterpump so that if the weep hole leaks anything, it will come out the hose below the optispark. He threaded the weep hole and added a barbed fitting and hose to it. All I've added is a short looped cable to each hood release, the cables sit under the cowl and under the wipers, so if my hood release cable ever breaks I can unlatch each side by pulling the little looped cables I added, and won't have to fight thru the door jam with a long rod, or cur holes in the hood to get the latches to release...
      ..a lesson I learned before I got my car, from a friend that had his hood release cable break, and took us half a day to pop the latches by going past the door hinges with a 4 foot steel rod with a 90° bend on the end.... I highly recommend adding the back up hood release cables, that factory cable takes a fair bit of stress to release those two latches

Are you familiar with viewing the digital water temp on the air conditioning digital readout? If so can you tell me what temp yours indicates when fully cold, before you start the engine? Mine indicates 40F above ambiant before starting and continues to indicate +40F as it warms and reaches operating temp. May burn out your fans keeping them running at all times but PCM of North Carolina will make you a custom chip for about $80, you can tell them what idle rpm you want, vats bypass, fan on/off temps etc., it's a good option. But worst case is those fan motors are easy to replace and cheap, beats doing a head gasket or worse.

      Nice, the LT1 has lots to be able to do. The cheap route is throttle body coolant bypass, K&N filter, remove spare tire/jack. Mild cam, heads etc would be next. Not sure on where the O2's are on a 95 but a front racing y-pipe helps. I'd start with a good tune up first if mileage is higher, plugs/wires, opti spark etc., go with synthetic oil, transmission fluid and rear diff fluid for a little bump in hp as well, if it's an automatic go with a TransGo shift kit, will shift nice and smooth driving normally but shift harder and quicker under full throttle, it'll also put a bit more power to the wheels.

      Doing only $120 of rear wheel bearings over 10 years seems quite reliable to me... and you could buy $30 bearings if ya wanted to, or spend $700 on them if yur wallet can handle it, or any price in-between if ya shop at Rockauto.
      It's even cheap on gas if ya don't spank it too hard (10.5 L/100klm (or around 27-29 mpg I think it is for the americans out there))
      ..and insurance thru Hagerty is only about $200 a year if it's insured as a collector car and only gets driven to cars&coffee for weekend meets and not used as your daily driver...

      I have a white '95 that is about 80% perfect (needs weatherstripping as per usual), it is completely stock right own to original mufflers.
      I got it almost for free, cuz previous owner decided it was too difficult to get in and out of, after it sat for a year untouched in her garage cuz she broke her femur the day before it was delivered to her in canada from Arizona where it was bought...
      So far after nearly 100k kilometers (60k miles), I've put rear wheel bearings on it, and I'm about to change the fuel pump, everything else has been perfect, even the optispark it came with is still working fine without a miss(tho I know it's time will come sooner or later)..
      ..it's been about the most reliable daily driver I've ever had (from April to Oct, cuz it just won't move when there's snow on the ground, other than in circles).
      I'm betting their prices start going up real quick as gas cars are eliminated and replaced with electric cars that so far all just suck based on their high costs to buy, insure and repair, difficulty in repair, short ranges etc...
      Gotta admit, I'm a little jealous of the glovebox, the door armrest hubby's don't hold much, and the console barely holds the manual along with the Corvette logo'd pen and flashlight that came with it from the factory...(my flashlight works, but the pen does need a new ink cartridge due to drying out over nearly 30 years... I even still have the thick red gel letter kit for the back bumper that was never installed new in pkg(I figure the letters would just be a pain to work around when trying to wax the car, so they'll never be installed. I should probly sell them along with the clear blue tinted spare roof that I also will never use, cuz it turns the car into a greenhouse, raising interior temp by 10°-20° if there's sunshine)..
      Don't get the x brace for underneath the chassis, get the 2 bars that go on the outside of the frame rails and put tension on the rails. The X brace reduces ground clearance by nearly 3 inches, and the floor of the car is already close enuff to the ground...
