A better way to undesrtand Q 14 is: Take L = abbababbb. Now we can break L into L = abb ab abbb. The three parts are each of the form (a*b*). Therefore in (a*b*)* we take the outer * to be of value 3. Thus L = (a*b*)(a*b*)(a*b*). First a*b* is abb. Second a*b* is ab. Third a*b* is abbb. Hope you understood it. :)
