If I'm not mistaken, the hot dog cutter is not intended to cut all the way through. After pressing it into the hot dog, it should be removed in a reverse manner. When the hot dog is cooked, the body curls up beautifully. Of course you can do the same with a kitchen knife. There are many other types of creative cutting you can do to hot dogs that expand when cooked, and greatly delight children!

Do you have a link to it?
@@shahranhussain6037 wondering if these components are detachable for cleaning?
@@stanley19430 He did demonstrate that the tube the vegetables go through is detachable so it allows you to clean the blades.
I have a hot dog slicer. I use it all the freaking time. You just give it a tiny wiggle once you get it through. The kids love it. It is one of my most used gadgets. 5 out of 5
Will y'all ever make a compilation of the all-5 rated gadgets, like the moving blade?
I think it’s be a short one. Pretty sure this is the only one 🤷🏼♂️
Hey Dan, you were using the melon slicer improperly. Check out the video in the Amazon link you have to the product. I've been using the melon slicer for several years and find it works very well.
never ever thought I would have a problem related to anyform of PTSD .. but watching him using the mandoline slicer with no guard just made me just start to freak out as someone who sliced a chunk of his finger off before using one without the guard for it
That Moving Blade Mandoline is great, im gonna get one for my mom for christmas!!! she loves cutting and slicing fruit and veggies so that would be great for her, glad i watched this!
Video idea: Dan redesigns his first kitchen gadgets🤔
Yes.
You can say thats *cutting-edge* technology!
I'm pretty sure the reason the bin on the mandolin has that weird shape is to make sure the blade part has room when it moves down.
The veggie sheet slicer was soooo satisfying to watch. 😊😎
I believe he is holding the watermelon slicer upside down and what he is cutting it with is just supposed to grip the slices out.
I was thinking the same.
Exactly
I've seen people try it that way it still doesn't cut properly
Showing not only how the gadget performs but also possible improvements is really cool and interesting
“Maybe they designed it in the winter when they couldn’t find any watermelon” 😭😭😭 pls he really is something else
He actually used the gadget backwards lol
@@funforall9741 Kurt Cobain used the shotgun backwards.
The moving blade mandolin is a gift from the gods
"I'm redesigning the watermelon" 😂
"I would kiss you but it looks a little dangerous"
Mad respect for Dan's emotional responsibility
I think the hotdog thingamabob really could do with metal blades instead. The plastic is just too thick and dull.
It’s meant for kids. You can’t trust kids with metal blades.
Yeah, let's punish them for being kids, by giving them unreliable blades that will make them hate being born !
Or you could just teach them basic blade security, enforce the rules, and be done with it.
@@oneoranota it's not about trust, kids are literally clumsy. their hands are smaller than an adult's therefore less precision and pressure/force so the possibility it might slip and cause an injury is higher.
@@martinmp23ify it doesnt need to be sharp blades, but a thin sheet of metal would do a better job cutting. Hot dogs are not the toughest thing in the world to cut
@@emeralddarkness and if anything goes wrong, you end up in court, no thanks

Hinge? Replace with posts.
Smooth circle to spin? Make it grippy.
Oh yeah I remember that sheet slicer from sorted food, it bit the hands of one of the guys over it sorted food before they even got it in front of the camera
the shape of the catch bucket for the mandolin cant be changed to more snugly fit the frame. Those cutouts allow the mandolin's moving mechanism to move down past the container.
I'm redesigning the watermelon so that should help!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's some next level criticism there👍🏼👍🏼
3:55 Scissor action: Stress on the point would be a break-issue. Potential fix: have cut go further down, have grid extend below the target hotdog.
2nd gadget.. I agree
3rd gadget... ok, yup.
4th: redesign the watermelon ;P
5th... yah, chopsticks + knife = better option You were generous with the 1 ratings.
Did he test the hot dog holder with a cooked or uncooked dog? I'd think a cooked dog would be softer and easier to cut, that looked uncooked/cold.
A grilled hot dog would be harder to cut since all you're doing is drying out the surface. Hot dogs come cooked.
I have it. I cooked the hot dog, it releases the grease and hard to get the pieces out. A tiny fork would help when eating it due to tiny pieces. More annoying than just eating a dog with a bun.
@a r I mean, you can literally cut a hotdog with a spoon.
"Never ketchup, because its a hot dog."
I feel personally attacked.
yeah.. fr wtf
He ate a hot dog straight from the package and on top of that, he added one of the most putrid smelling things you can add to a food item.
If the second gadget could be used to make potato sheets I would get on asap for e unique version of scalloped potato
I don't see why it couldn't, you would just have to prep the potato (and there would be a bit of "waste" potato that could be used for other things)
@@duckhead014 I'm already looking for one. Where I live in Canada 🇨🇦 doesn't get free shipping from anywhere so I'm hoping to find one at Walmart or Canadian tire before ordering online.
@@duckhead014 It was designed to grip vegetables only at the far ends. So the potato would have to be large enough to reach both ends of the device.
God damn, for 40 years? Hats off to you my guy, that's some real dedication!
hasselback cutter, brought the hassle back
Love this guy. Cant believe I missed this episode.
The Left-Handed Oil Test reminds me of when I was working in a kitchen and there was a trainer that was left-handed. She didn't realize she should let people know before showing them how to do things, and people struggled so much until I said something
Welcome to every day life for being a left handed person "oh just do what I do in reverse"
Wow... Loved each second of the moving blade mandolin... Looks simple and fun and safer... And it got appreciation from Dan too
There should also be cleaning(dishwasher safe or not,how hard it is to clean)and price as criteria
his shrug at 17:31 after the potato breaks just kills me
Hotdog Slicer:
An egg slicer is more effective at cutting hotdogs than that device. 😕
Veggie Sheet Slicer:
Japanese house cooks have been doing this by hand for decades, if not centuries.
that moving blade mandolin looks SO useful.
I love when he finds something that is really good and works properly. I'd seriously consider buying one of those mandolins! I can always superglue extra material onto or 3d print new dials for the back, and you could make the chute squeeze the veggie on both sides with some small round guide-rails on the sides to attempt to keep orientation so that you can set the angle however you want (though that sounds convoluted and awful now that I've typed it out....maybe there's a reason he's the expert XD)
In my grandmother's kitchen the only gadget I saw was a hand held manual egg beater, she has the most gadget free kitchen ever and she raised 7 children and made the most delicious meals
Even if the companies re-made the gadgets after Dan’s analysis Dan would still make a re-design
ive been watchign this guy for over 5 hours, he is magical
ohh i break down the potato and the potato ohhh
Finally, the perfect gadget!!!
The moving mandolin is the king of all Kitchen gadgets.
This is the channel that takes away my worries
“And you can fill that with either ketchup or mustard! But never ketchup, because it’s a hot-dog!” Ugh! I love putting ketchup and mustard on hot-dogs! ^_^ I think it’s stupid that people think ketchup doesn’t belong on hot-dogs! >_< People should be able to eat foods however they want to eat them! :D
ikr! I actually hate mustard so I ONLY use ketchup on hot dogs and I was like WTF! when he said that, lol
I cannot imagine if he sees brazilian hot dogs 😂
Agreed. If you refuse to have ketchup on hotdogs, you're missing out. Also mayonnaise, but that goes alone.
Ketchup and relish is my go-to. I hate yellow mustard and mayonnaise.
Dan is my spirit animal!
