I like the name Misty. I do a lot of creative writing and I often give a lot of consideration to the feeling of words. 'Misty' is like a cute fog, it obscures things but in a gentle way. Unlike fog which is heavy and persistent, mist is dainty, it can dance in the wind and the Sun's warmth can lift it. BTW, there's no low-key to it, I think you and that Honda Civic are high-key a menace to society. 😂 I think you're awesome! I hope you're having a lovely day!
Thank you! I like it too! Yes, me too! It's a reminder to myself that we as human will always see things through tinted lenses but there's nothing wrong with that, at least we recognize it's there. And fogs lift! Nothing in life is truly permanent, life goes on. And the sun will always come out in the end. Those were my thoughts about the name Misty. LOL, high-key a menace to society. That's the goal! Thanks for the comment, we will continue to be just that. And I think you're pretty cool yourself. Hope your day is going well!
Since I'm deleting the previous version, I'm copying over a lovely thread that I don't want to lose. It's Étienne's lovely introduction and our replies that I would like to have the ability to look back on. @etienneb.6956 • 1 day ago Guess I'll introduce myself a bit, because why not. I am 31, french canadian, name is Étienne. My personality is pretty uninteresting. Grew up poor. Average on every level. No particular talent. No achievement whatsoever aside maybe from a bachelor, which is really not an achievement in 2023 anymore. I love meeting new people despite being really bad at talking (I have a stutter). I never know what the hell to talk about but I love to listen and learn from others. I am chaotic but never make trouble for others. My best quality is luck; too many exceptionnally good things happened in my life that should not have logically happened. I am the kind of guy you'll meet once and then forget forever because there is nothing in particular worth remembering. Most people would qualify me as boring. Still, doing well by society's standards for my age, except friends. All my former friends moved far away or had babies, etc. It's a real mystery how you are supposed to make friends in your 30s. I guess you'll see what I'm talking about when you reach my age. How did I find your videos? I don't know. Maybe it's because I was searching for mandarin lessons and you happened to speak mandarin in your last video. The TH-cam algorithm is pretty random sometimes. Anyhow, I'm glad you have friends in real life. Cherish them. @mistyshii • 1 day ago Hi Étienne! It's lovely to get to know you, thank you for introducing yourself! I would say I'm uninteresting as well if we put it that way, from our brief conversations you seem like someone with so much life experience and so much more in store than you are claiming. Don't worry I stutter as well, I just love talking. Though it's also quite hard to find things to talk to. I do think talking is a skill but it still shouldn't stop us from trying to communicate. I have a soft spot for people that listen; thank you for being one of them! Chaotic is nice, chaotic makes life interesting and life itself is chaotic. I don't like to trouble other people either but I think it's also okay to accept help. I think that's what having friends entitle; it's the exchange of troubles in some forms. I think I'm quite lucky too! Though I think luck will always be a part of the reason but never the full. To me, the way you carry yourself plays a huge part as well! I would love to call someone like you as my friend! Also, I think it's human to be forgotten but all I remember are people. I'll forever remember you, my one friend who goes out of his way to share his thoughts and reply to mine on my videos that I consider boring. I think we find other people's life interesting because we only see the good parts, we don't experience what they do on the day to day which sometimes can be "boring." Then again, what's the definition of boring, you know? AH 30, society has made that number quite scary for me. 30 in Chinese society deems you 剩女 (leftover women), which is quite annoying because most of these women are capable independent women who weren't willing to settle for less. So I would like to be financially independent by then because if not I'm scare what's waiting for me. (Jokes but not really.) Tell me about it! Even at my age people are getting married, having children etc., not that I'm trying to do the same but I definitely understand keeping friends can be a difficult task. I started writing letters to my friends out of state but I still find myself reverting back to text messaging. I really look up to people that learn different languages because it can be so difficult especially with the Mandarin French duo. I took French through middle and high school, it was a struggle and unfortunately I don't remember much. Wish you the best on learning Mandarin, I'll probably make a video on some words I like sooner or later (I taught my irl friends words in Fujianese for fun). Thank you, I'll do my best! Much love! Your friend, Misty :) @etienneb.6956 • 1 day ago (edited) @mistyshii Thank you for taking so much of your time to reply, I really appreciate it. Man at your age I used to be a complete recluse because of my stutter. My stutter used to be pretty pretty bad. Just going outside to buy food or whatever gave me social anxiety. I think I am decently smart, but always looking like an absolute fool because I could not speak properly was painful. Forget about finding a partner haha. I am very happy I was able to overcome it (I'd say 90% of it). I developed tricks to avoid certain sounds that trigger the stutter and I try to slow down my thoughts when I speak. And quite frankly, I have reached a point where I simply don't give a shit if I look dumb anymore. I am just done with worrying about such meaningless things and it consequently also helped managing the stutter. You have the guts to put yourself out there on the internet, completely open and vulnerable to the worst of humanity. I know just how vile some people can be on the internet and I don't think I'd be ready to handle that. I think that makes you an interesting person. I feel like my french helps me a lot to get the correct pronunciation of most of mandarin. There are just so many similar sounds! It's really subtle but I think it really helps me. I have been learning for a couple months in my spare time. I can read pinyin slowly with the correct pronunciation and tone and my vocabulary is extremely basic. I have not reached the level where I can understand spoken mandarin and I particularly have trouble identifying the correct tone. Not easy! 😅 Yeah I heard about that "leftover women" thing. It sounds quite ridiculous. Women in their 30s can still be very attractive, to me at least, so I definitely don't view them as leftovers 🤣. There are so many reasons why somebody would still be single by 30. Finding a great match requires an absurd amount of luck. Maybe a woman preferred pursuing a passion or was busy fixing something in her life. That part of chinese culture demonstrates a lack of empathy in my opinion. Anyway! Thanks again for reading. I always feel like I write too much 😅. Have a great day! @mistyshii • 1 day ago You don't need to thank me for replies! I really look forward to all your comments! And this is what friends are for! It's really nice to hear you were able to overcome your stutter for the most part but then again I think stuttering is totally normal. However, I can see why it makes communication that much harder. To reach a point where you don't care as much is very impressive! I think a lot of people are still unable to do that, myself included in certain aspects! I think putting myself on the internet is actually more for me than for anyone else. Growing up I realize, nobody really cares. I just like to think, to share, and to learn. And the internet provides me with the opportunity to do so! I think for you to reply and comment you're also putting yourself out there, just as I am! AHAH I don't seek to be liked. Even in life, people have disliked me before they even got to know me. I'm not seeking to please people but I wish to share some love! I'll forever try to improve, I'm more than ready to fix what I can and what I can't, I'll just be the best me I can be. If people don't want to be friends with me that's also not problem at all. I just would like to try. People on the internet can really do some harm mentally but people like you proves to me, there are really worthwhile people out there for me to share my thoughts with! Also, I find it some much easier being nice. Being mean really takes a toll on the individual so when people hate, I kind of feel bad for them. Oh yes tones! I think that and some grammar structures between French and Mandarin are also quite similar but still Mandarin is not an easy language to learn, it's impressive you're even taking up the task. For myself, I think it'll be much easier for me to lean Japanese or Korean in comparison to French. There's parts of Chinese culture I love and parts I can't agree with, but what can I do about it? I'll just do me, I just hope cultural expectations don't affect others too negatively because man the pressure is still there. I love love the fact that you write back. It really means the world to me. Have a wonderful day! Wish you well! Your friend, Misty :) @etienneb.6956 • 1 day ago @mistyshii You are too nice! I love reading your replies as well.
