Trust me, i'm an expert on this I've always had a hard time listening. I would doodle in class just to pay attention. I can read for hours without losing focus, but listening is hard. :)
I read the transcripts often, too. They're especially helpful for catching small details. I've learned the only problem arises when you accidentally find a transcript for a live version of the show and listen to the 'classic' version. Who knew they varied so much? ^^;

I don't think people who can hear perfectly understand the pain of the closed captioning. While people think it's funny, people who can't hear well or at all are confused and a bit upset they can't watch their favorite show/TH-camr/podcast without dick eyebrows and such :/ (thankfully I'm able to listen without cc most times)

I feel like this is the night vale equivalent of live news coverage of a car chase.
a moment that will forever stand out in my mind:
just earlier this week, i was coming back from a band contest. it was about 3 hours from home, and we were getting on the buses around 10 o clock. the high school we were at was pretty rural, and the sky was cloudy.
i took out my earbuds and played some music for a bit, then decided to come back to some old night vale episodes. i'm all caught up, but that was only recently. i listened to the entirety of the show over the course of three months.
i decided to listen to this one, and i leaned my head against the rickety bus window to get comfortable. when i looked up, the clouds in the center of the sky had parted. more stars than i'd seen in years glittered above me. the moon, crescent and silver, hung in the middle of them all, just as cecil began the story. i sat like that for the whole episode, and two more, just staring at the sky and listening, until i finally fell asleep. it was the most peaceful i've felt in two years.
i seriously thought this was going to be a story about a man named Stanley at first. like seriously, when he said "This is a story about" my brain automatically filled in "a man named Stanley" before being overridden by him saying "you"
the man who was not short and the man who was not tall in a black car while mysteries happen? sounds like Spn...

This is probably one of my favourites episodes of Night Vale. I just love the bit about the lack of consequences being terrifying and later being happy about facing them. I don't know why I LOVE IT so much but it's just great.

Soooo... I was closing my eyes for like immersion and all that ish and I didn't hear my mom calling me for like five minutes. I got real immersed. Then I came back to my room after eating dinner and had a drink in my hand, which spelled on the steps and my first thought was "all hail the glow cloud?"

The description of the planet was legitimately astonishing. Few things in this podcast really made me feel fear before. Something about it is so horribly wrong but so primally inviting.
I don't know why, but this epispde almost made me cry. Not all the way crying, just on the very edge. then it faded.
This episode puts me right back to the first time I heard Night Vale. I remember the way my bedroom smelled and my phone wallpaper at the time. Night Vale is one of those things that I wish I could experience for the first time all over again. I guess what I'm saying is, thanks.
I remember literally giggling with joy like a schoolgirl the first night I spent listening. I was at the beginning of the end stage of a 4 year relationship, one that I wasn't quite ready to end. She, on the other hand, was with her new soon to be boyfriend while I sat at home, pretending I didn't know and drinking heavily. These guys really got me through that time.
Every once in a while I go for a drive in the dead of night, listening to this episode. It helps to center me. Sometimes I even turn my headlights off, for a moment, to feel that sunless planet above my head. There is something about this story that just speaks so deeply to me -- I guess it is a story about me, after all.

I started listening to this show when I was younger when this episode was new. I sometimes stop listening because life happens then I'll listen to this episode and go back into it. Ironically enough now I used to live in a place with trees and water, now I have a new job and I live somewhere else a dry desert place where the sun is hot and the moon is beautiful... kinda funny now that I think about it. I love this show.
I love that this is called "A Story About You" and I have agoraphobia and crushing anxiety about space and the the infinite size of the universe and how unknown it is. Seeing a planet randomly appear in the sky would likely give me a heart attack. It's like they ACTUALLY tailored this episode to match my greatest fears. A very cool coincidence.
I hate coincidences. The thing about coincidences is that they're almost always planned. WHAT THE-- WODENSFANG, GET OFF MY COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry, the Wodensfang "borrowed" my computer.

I still don't understand why seeing an ominous planet makes the protagonist left his beloved fiancee just to go t the lovecraftian almost Silent Hill town of Night Vale. I know that the universe is crazy, but you must not let the that fact make you take dumb decisions. Anyway, this was a good story and it felt good to read it in a second person perspective.

I fell asleep to this episode, woke up at episode 22, and, for the first time in a while, didn't wake up in the middle of the night. Usually I wake up two or three times. Hmm....

I just re-listened to this episode on my iPod and came here hoping there would be ppl discussing its meaning or purpose b/c this one was total gibberish to me, which probably means I am missing something. The only thing I got (Thank You The Fear Channel), was the Apache Tracker's warning. If anyone has an idea of what this one was alluding to, please tell me.
Melissa Koczur-Mitchell it alludes a lot to the vision of the dark planet far away. A common vision some people had in Night Vale or just going in the postal office. So yes, it adds to the whole mystery unravelling in Night Vale.
But, it also speaks about regrets, leaving a life behind you but still hoping, somehow, that life could matter again. or should have matter more. The lack of consequences means nothing touched you. and it may be horrible to you.
Melissa Koczur-Mitchell I feel like it means consequences make life worth it, whether it be good or bad.

I didn’t knew who the creator of the podcast was, but after reading several comments saying that you could imagine the podcast with the voice of the creator I went and search for a podcast with her own voice. After hearing to it I could totally understand why everyone was saying that you could hear it in Cecil Palmers voice. I would not listen to this podcast how I used to listen to it ever again.

I listen to this podcast as I walk to and from school because the walk is about 25 minutes. Although this podcast has made me laugh out loud and smile several times before, the moment you are alone on the road made me stop in my tracks. Later, during the confrontation, I gasped, placed a hand over my mouth, and it wasn’t until the end of the episode I realized I hadn’t moved.
