Thanks Alan for a beautiful tribute to a wonderful lady and how she was treated by producers it was terrible I can remember watching crossroads when I was at school I believe it ran for many years it's a shame she didn't have a better relationship with someone who deserved her ,anyway Well done Alan and take care
Hello Karl same here. It brings back those memories of the good old there's of being young and Free. And you're right, she was so unlucky in the most important thing. Good old crossroads it was never the same without Noel. Great video and tribute to her Alan and thanks for shearing it with us all 👏👏👏👍keep up the good work and can’t wait till the next one
Hi Alan, I have several stories relating to " Crossroads," mostly small incidents that occurred when I was working in Birmingham city centre in the 1980s. I was very nearly knocked down by Jane Rossington, who played. Jiill, Meg's daughter, whilst crossing the road near the ATV studios. On another occasion, I was bought a pint by Angus Lennie, who played chef "Shughie McFee," when I worked for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). As to Noelle, I was working at the time at the Odeon in New Street, Birmingham, in the days when it's main business was as a 2,552 seat concert venue where I met many big stars who performed there. To get back to Noelle, next door to the Odeon at the time was the door leading to a hairdressing salon owned by the famous hairdresser "Mister Teesie Weesie" Raymond (there's another one for you ro visit) I was in the foyer of the theatre one day when a huge Rolls Royce pulled up outside ( these were the days before it was pedestrianised) a driver dressed in full traditional chauffeur's uniform got out about half a dozen people got out , one of whom, wearing an enormous fur coat, was Noelle. The entire entourage entered the salon, and that was probably her last hairdressing appointment because a few days later, she died. As to grave next to hers, Joan Gordon, known as "Jockey" was her mother who played the first ever guest to check in at the motel in the first episode of "Crossroads", I hope that you found this interesting, my best memory is of being bought a pint of bitter by one of the stars of "The Great Escape". Cheers,. Nick McCormack.
Hello Nick, I've got to give you the Gold award for the longest but most interesting comment. I wish they'd known some of those stories I could have Incorporated them into my film. Angus sounded a great guy. I'll love that and what a fantastic memory for you. The story with Noel visiting Raymond was sad But still quite something to witness. I looked him up. I couldn't find the Grave but thank you. Just imagine if you had it been run down you'd have got in the newspapers 😉 not everybody gets hit by one of the styles of crossroads. Seriously a fantastic comment. Thank you ever so much. I hope people enjoy reading it. Maybe you wouldn't mind if I popped it on the community page with your name. People might find that interesting. I miss it if it's just in the comments run etc. if you don't want to that way but have a great weekend my friend and thank you for all that. Best regards, alan
@MotorHomeBeepBeep Alan, I am glad that you enjoyed it. It could have been very much longer, but I didn't want to bore you. As to using it, it is yours to use in any way that you see fit with my name attached .
Great footage, I loved Noele and she made some historic appearances and she spoke her mind. She was before her time really. Loved this video thanks Alan. I hope life is treating you kindly. Great work as usual.
Hello Joan, yes she was quite a celebrity with the kind of x Factor feel and she'd had such a Pinnacle career even before crosswords. If I may, can I ask you a little question are you Joan which has been writing to me right from the beginning of the channel who cannot get out very much. Best regards, alan
Hello Alan, hope you are well and enjoying life. Another great VLOG with interesting facts i knew nothing about. My Dad died in November 1964 and mum and I went to live with my Auntie and Uncle and maternal grandparents. Grandad loved Crossroads and it was a ritual that he waited for me to come back from school and we would watch it together. Happy memories and so I was raised watching it as a seven year old until my late teens when it was no longer cool to admit you were a fan 🤭. Don’t forget to look at Margaret Rutherford. Happy travels my friend 👍
Yes, I got your suggestion. That's great! I'll definitely try and do Margaret and I'm so pleased that it brought back those nice memories. That's one of the best aspects of this channel. See you soon my friend Alan
In 1970 she moved into the house next door to my parents on Handsworth Wood Road she then built a maisonette Next Door where her and her mother jockey lived , Jockey lived upstairs and she lived downstairs . She parked her brown then silver Rolls-Royce at the back of our house . Despite what is said about Noll being a difficult woman I can’t confirm that because I never worked with her but as a neighbour she was an absolute pleasure. She smoked like a chimney she drank like a fish but she was always a lady. She was always a star but never up her own backside ever . Larry Grayson used to come to her flat along with many other stars and as a child in the 70s we were starstruck having a famous neighbour . She died two years before my mother in 1985 and she left her flat and some other properties she owned on Handsworth Wood Road to her friends and male housekeeper. And she now rests next to her mother Joan Gordon AKA Jockey because she was the size of a joackey x
Hi Asa what a wonderful comment! So nice to get one from somebody who knew the person of the film. She seemed like a very nice down to a type of lady in real life and obviously it gave you a great deal of pleasure to have this famous neighbor. I've done the grave of Larry Grayson if you want to take a look. But thank you for your personal memories superb Alan

I watched the biographical drama last year with Helena Bonham Carter which was really enjoyable too. Thank you Alan for another great video 😊 (ETA. I think Joan was her mum)
Hi Karin Yes it was a shame when it came back it didn't last. I was actually in one of the episodes as an extra and I agree the drama was an excellent story. Very enjoyable. Thank you, alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep You were in it? How fab is that? I Would love to see it, but I doubt very much there is anything about the newer version online, which is a pity.
Hi Alan, not a soap fan but brought memories back when my mum used to watch crossroads , looks like the ground keeper is on strike !, hope your well Alan..regards Ron.
Hello Ronnie Glad they brought back those memories of your mom. But regarding the grounds, it's left to grow in certain areas for the insect life. There's signs telling you that 👍🙂
Loved this one Alan ..always remember the theme and my old mum telling me to be quiet...any chance doing the late great topman the legend that was George cole ..cheers mate
Hi Alan you mentioned John Logie Baird who invented the tv,well he was from Helensburgh in Scotland 🏴. The original prototype of the tv takes up the whole top room in the Helensburgh library and it’s amazing to see it. L
Wow that sounds absolutely amazing! It sounds so big. I can't believe the size. How would you get it in your living room? You'd need a big house thank Sandra
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep yes it is. You can see it through large windows but my school was John Logie Baird Primary School so went on a School trip and we were allowed in the room but under fear of god not to touch it! Obviously from the original prototype smaller versions were made but were still huge. I thought it was in the ‘20’s and I have just checked and it was first shown on 26th January 1926 almost 100 years ago and just look how far we have come now! If you or any of your viewers get a chance to visit Helensburgh 🏴you have to go and check it out.
I remember when she got fired - it was huge news. She had a great successful career but not so much in her private life. It was a very different world in those far off days long before TH-cam and the internet.
It was somewhere about 2004. I have the pictures and was thinking of putting them in the video but didn't. I'll post the one on the community tab. It was when it was brought back but it didn't last. Thank you Ann
Crossroads did come in for a lot of stick while it was on, Lew Grade did not like Coronation Street one bit in fact he didn't want ATV to show from the start he had to give way in the end around about 1961, That is how Crossroads came about in 1964 I think it was Noels Gordon's life to be honest. Nice tribute.
Never watched a single episode of Cross Roads. My old man had the local tv repair man to doctor the TV (which was a black and white set with the old clunky channel selector) so that we couldn't watch ITV AT ALL! because he didn't want us watching the adverts. I missed out on loads of ITV Kids shows in the 70's. But I am told Cross Roads was as bad as Neighbours lol, so I guess I didn't miss much. For me it was BBC 1 and Blue peter never Magpie. That would be a good visit to see, John Noakes grave. The legend who cleaned Pidgeon Shit off the top of Nelsons Column live on a kids TV show without a safety harness. (I think that episode was discussed in Parliament) Also he did the highest parachute jump for a civilian at the time, and had the Idea of getting children to send all their parents OLD cutlery (does anyone have OLD cutlery?) in to Blue Peter for charity. Post boxes all over the country were full of knives forks and spoons. He never could say Foons and Sporks properly. Get down Shep! Brilliant!
Hi Ade well that was bizarre. Not allowing you to watch the commercial channel. I couldn't imagine it the other way around where you've got to pay for the license fee the BBC but you did miss a lot of good programs I'm afraid. I've done John Nokes where is ashes was scattered by a rocket at the back of his own school. If you're not seen it, he was a great guy, wasn't he? I love John. Vaguely remember the thing about cutlery. Wow, you've got a good memory. Thank you, alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Thanks Alan didn't know you had visited John Nokes. I'll have a look for it. Yes, there was bedlam over the knife and fork thing lol , Kids were sending in family heirlooms (the family silver kept in boxes in the wardrobe) It was an absolute disaster. lol. John had to personally go to the place where they were sorting the cutlery and try to re-unite the owners with their property. Keep up the good show. Keith Floyd "the first" of the celebrity chefs to take cooking outside of the kitchen and into alfresco. He was the godfather of how not to poncify food chuck it in the pan and have a good slurp of wine. There are many Chefs who have been inspired by his wit to the backdrop of the Stranglers music, and his catch phrase "Pan Down look at the food not me" It would be great if you could find him.
Hi Alan she was a very attractive woman wasn’t she makes me feel old but I loved crossroads she had a very close relationship with Larry Grayson I believe shame it’s a bit overgrown where she’s buried.looks a bit neglected thanks Alan take care ❤️😊👍🏻
I should have said it on camera. Crystal that they kept the grass long for the insects. It was done on purpose not through neglect. There were signs of telling you this and I've done The grave of Larry. If you've not seen it, he was very close to her.

Hello Anthony, I didn't know you could watch them on TH-cam. I'll take a look. Thank you. Have a great weekend. Alan
Great video as always Alan..I remember Crossroads screening here briefly in the 70s..love the T shirt too!!
Hi Nay
Hi Nay thanks my friend. I like the t-shirt too. Well I should do. I thought of it 🤣
Nice video again Alan i remember the wedding Larry grayson played the chauffeur and used is own rolls royce
Thanks for the information David I'd forgotten but I do have a distant memory of it taking place and I've done Larry's grave if you're interested. All the best Alan
Hi Alan I just checked Findagrave and it says it is her mum next to her, no info on the dad. Thanks for showing us her grave.
Hi Alan just another suggestion if your the Midlands ,a good friend of Noel’s was Larry Grayson .I believe he lived in Nuneaton apparently a lovely man keep up the good work 👍
Hiv User That's pretty kind of you to make that suggestion, but I've actually done it already. I was very pleased to do. Larry, I thought it was a lovely guy. Best regards, alan
Cheers Alan I’ll check it out 👍
Amazing church!!
This takes me back, I used to enjoy Crossroads and believe it or not, the remake too. Unfortunately, that ended out of nowhere on a cliffhanger, so annoying.
There's signs telling you that 👍🙂
Ah got it Alan, nature in place, have a good weekend regards Ron.@@MotorHomeBeepBeep
Great video Alan, the cremated remains of Dennis Potter are also in the Churchyard.
I wish that now not Keith. But thank you. If I get in the proximity and I'll give you a name check. Much appreciated, Alan
Loved this one Alan ..always remember the theme and my old mum telling me to be quiet...any chance doing the late great topman the legend that was George cole ..cheers mate
Hello Daniel, I'd love to do George, but I remember looking into it there's no location for his ashes But nice idea my friend
Exactly Edwards we only had the TV news and papers we weren't as well informed
Hi Alan Wikipedia says that Noele is buried next to her mother, Joan Gordon (1893 - 1979)
Yes, thank you! Wacko a few people that pointed that out. She was called jockey cuz she was small. But thank you, alan
O yes David hunter just came to mind 😅
I have seen her grave on our way to malvern say her house
Bless her. When were you in Crossroads Alan? I'm intrigued! 😊
Hello Raymond, I never knew that about salute grid not liking coronation Street. Very interesting. Best, alan
There are many Chefs who have been inspired by his wit to the backdrop of the Stranglers music, and his catch phrase "Pan Down look at the food not me"
It would be great if you could find him.
Larry grayson her friend

Hello Alan, I remember an actress called Imogen Hassall who was popular quite a few years ago, do you remember her? Take care.
Hi My she was able to admire episodes of my favorite program as a teenager which was called The persuaders in 1971. She has been done by another channel but I was thinking of doing the film and that's very kind of you to tell me regards Alan ps. She was very beautiful

Her mother Alan
Hello Denise you have to forgive me I don't know what you mean whos mother ?
Hi Alan. I PM’d you a message on messenger on the 6th August. It’s regarding a possible trip for you.
Hello carol, I'm sorry I have not seen that. I tend to forget all about private messaging, but I'll take a look as soon as I get translated today. Thank you Alan
Looks that she was very unlucky in her personal life..
Crossroads was never the same with out noal Gordon it was a big mistake sacking her i stopped watching it when she left
Crossroads was the butt of jokes years ago, due to poor acting and scenery. Acorn Antiques was based on Crossroads, so I understand.
