I've owned literally dozens of Hinderers. Sold all but one. The new Gen 6 knives with the TriWay Pivot seems to be lacking of the prior generation's tight tolerances. Owned four TriWay knives, and all have had issues.
A couple of thoughts: -The ZT 0561 was discontinued for a reason. It might be your favorite, but it's not ZT's best ever. That crown would likely go to another Hinderer designed ZT - the 0562CF. -Nobody does G10 like Hinderer. I've looked. -The Gen 6 XM-18 does have a lock bar insert - your example is an earlier model. You should annotate your video.
Thanks. Why do you suggest it was discontinued? The 0562cf is a good knife, but I don't prefer it over the 0561. 1) stop pin doesn't function as well as a thumb stud 2) the pivot had a tendency to spin and loosen Yeah, the G10 was nice Yeah, I didn't say this was the newest version. I think I mentioned that it is not, and that the newer models have the lock bar insert.
Knife Thoughts - I just thought it was odd that you made a big point in the video that the XM-18 lost points relative to the 0561 due to the lack of a lack bar insert. Someone who didn’t know any better would get the wrong impression. There is of course a difference between something that is objectively intrinsically better and just better for you. I would argue that the 0561 is better for you. But it was discontinued ultimately because it wasn’t a great seller. Larger knives tend not to be. But it also did not flip as well as the 0562CF. I have two of the original ones that I’ve had since the very first week that they were introduced and never had any issues with the pivot loosening. I’m not denying that you had one that did, but it’s not a general tenancy as you suggest.
Yeah, I think this is a case of us just having different preferences. Remember, me giving my opinions on a knife and my reasoning for those opinions is different than me making a claim that one is objectively better than the other.
Knife Thoughts - absolutely. You just need to make a clear differentiation between opinion and objective fact. Much of your review came across as the latter when apparently you were trying to convey the former.
I think if one is going to review a knife they should carry it and use it daily for 2 to 4 weeks first. One should take it apart, clean it well and lube it up as anyone that uses a knife every day for that length of time would do. Unless you have done that you cannot really get used to the knife and learn something about how the knife is made. The knife you were showing in this video was a Gen 4. Had you gotten to know this knife you would not only know the hard use build of this knife that you are NOT going to get in a $250 knife but You would also know that in spite of the fact that you wrongly touted this knife as running on bearings more than one time because of how smooth and drop shut the action is it runs on teflon washers . You would increase your credibility as a reviewer if you knew what you were talking about. Myself I will stick with reviewers that know the product they are reviewing and not by using idle conjecture and data off a data sheet.
When you buy a Hinderer, you are buying more than a knife. You are buying an American made brand that has top notch customer service and a lifetime warranty.
Unless you use up your blade. They don't offer blade replacements. So any Hinderer has a service life. Most other manufacturers at this price point offer reblades if you use your knife and wear through one.
ReclusiveMountainMan I have quite a few hinderers and just recently learned this, I was very letdown to discover this. I love my gen 6 Hinderers but they have a short sharpening life compared to my crk ‘s based on thickness behind the edge. To top that off you can’t even buy a blade replacement like crk offers really sucks. Say you have a new one and actually use it and drop it off a scaffold for a construction guy and snap the tip off your shit outta luck and have a nice 425 handle with no blade.
Too expensive for not much more quality then a WELL made ZT. Thanks for your efforts in making a video, But I have to ask...42 minutes for a knife video???
@@KnifeThoughts 40 minutes is okay, man. keep em coming. I appreciate the screen time, especially for most who don't have physical access to these knives other than photos and videos.

Huh! I'm surprised to hear that
This is on Teflon not bearings. Great video
I'm hopefully buying the gen 6 Bowie on Friday. Great looking knife! Do you still have this?
No unfortunately I don’t
@@KnifeThoughts Ok. Well thanks for the info my friend. I also have a TH-cam Channel. Love for ya to check it out.

You have fun unnecessarily taking your knives apart!
@@KnifeThoughts And you are too inept to do your job properly.
I like Hinderers, but they get a free ride on inconsistent manufacturing.
18 minutes in "I don't carry or use the knife" 😑
Lol thanks for watching those 18 minutes 👍😉

Yeah man, idk. I like knives.
Well made ZT 😂, you mean burnt edges and shit heat treat. Would rather rip stuff apart with my teeth before using a ZT.
