Thank you for this awesome real life review on a reliable vehicle. I'm getting sick of the "top 10 reliable cars" list that people post... of brand new cars with no history. ANY new car is reliable! But drive a car for over 200k miles and a few years on it and then we can talk. Thank you so much for this grate TRUE review.
Thanks Adriel. Seems very few people who review cars have to live with them. I find user reviews a lot more helpful and was happy to contribute this one.
I love my 2006 Scion XB. Best car.. I bought 2014 use with 260 ,000. for $700. So far, I have 320,000 miles and going strong. Regular maintenance oils changes.
Wow, incredible. Mine is 500 miles away from 250,000 miles. I'm trying to decide whether I should worry about it or not. I want to take it to at least 300,000 miles.
Wowwww I bought mine in 2008 and its over 127K,I live in AZ and its a lot of drivibg to get to other cities. I'LL be riding it till the wheels fall off. Dont forget Cruise control too..
Daniel Gennaro the release model has them buddy i have the 2011 release series with the voo doo blue paint and i love my car i get compliments all the time 👍🏼
Hello B Dog, I also have an 05 Xb. Mine is Charcoal grey and manual transmission. I put the first 50k miles in under 17 months. My friends call her The Immortal Scion'. She has about 235,000 miles on it now. If this car was made now using the same parts suppliers I would likely purchase it ASAP, that is how good it is.
I've owned a Scion xB since 2013. I think it is one of the best cars that was built by the Toyota corporation. It does not excel in any particular area, but it does every thing well (handling, acceleration, passenger space, cargo space, reliability, unique styling etc.)
I would agree Willie. It's kind of a mystery why the car never caught on with the general public. You got a Camry level of quality for the price of a Hyundai.
Bought my 5 speed 2008 in 2013 @ 65,000 miles in AZ, drove it to Cali, Nevada, and Utah and she runs smooth. It has an oil consumption issue also. I was using the 0 - 20W and it was eating it up quick. Now I use Delo400 15 - 40W and it takes awhile to go down. Plus, it's a weight recommended for high mileage cars. Replaced the clutch @ 180,000 after hauling 2 big 400lb guys through San Fransisco hills (they killed my clutch lol). Moved it back to my home in Hawaii and now its approaching the 200k mark. This car is a beast!!! Just replaced rear brake pads cause I haul tools around, go camping, and carry my whole ohana everyday. I wouldn't trade it for any other car. Gonna repaint it soon also. And, it's on its 3rd windshield mainly from Arizona and cross country driving. Mahalo for the video. 🤙🤙🤙
Thanks for the comment! That's good service out of your xB. I am still using the 0W-20 or 5W-20. Maybe I should move up to 15W-40. How many miles on your xB now?
I adore my xB. No mechanical issues at all. Just tires. I'm on my third one. A tree fell on the first, and I was just rear-ended in the second. I bought a 2015 with 10,000 miles on it. I hope this one will last a very long time.
I'm sorry to hear about your two previous xB's Michelle. I hope your 2015 lasts a long time. If something happened to mine I'm not sure what I would replace it with.
Agreed am a proud owner of the last of the scion xb namely the 2015 models. and i have never been so happy with car, so reliable and have been really awesome with the snow.
@@ottallman I have a '12 xB that I bought used in '16. Has 90K miles with zero repair issues and about to do my 1st transmission fluid change. I could not find anything in the owner's manual about a service interval for this. How often do you change yours? Do you get the power flush or just drain and refill including filter replacement?
I have a 2014 and a 2015. Have owned 272 cars in 50 years, these outshine all others. 4 wheel vented disk brakes, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, large cabin, sit up high as in an suv. drivers seat raises, lowers & reclines. Head room is amazing. Big doors make it easy to enter & exit. 4 speed automatic is bullet proof. The car is quick. 158 hp 162 ft pounds of torque. Very comfortable ride . Simplistic is nice. Not to many buttons to figure out, visibility great. Indeed it is an under rated car. People who own these love them.
Congrats Shanna! I just did an update video on mine. Almost 280,000 miles now and only had the rear wheel bearings go out in the last 70,000 miles. Enjoy your xB!
I have a 2008 Scion xB it has 400,000 freeway miles, high oil consumption but runs great. I just bought a 2015 xB with 77,000 miles l love these cars, low maintenance and very reliable.
Just traded our 2009 with 100k on it for an off lease 2015. I liked the 09 so well that I wanted to get a low mileage last of the line 15 while I could still find one. Took the old one on a 2600 mile trip to Yellowstone and back this summer, didn't miss a beat. The only fly in the ointment with this vehicle is relatively poor MPG by today's standards. Other than that, I can't complain about anything. A tank, really.
I like the looks of that final iteration of the xB. I just see no reason to give mine up yet. It's at 240,000 miles now. I did have to put $1100 into it recently for new rear wheel hubs and brakes (the rear wheel bearings were going). You should have that 2015 for many many years to come.
Good to know your xB has lasted so long! I've had a 2009 xB since late 2008, now with almost 120K miles. Nothing weird or major has happened to it (knock on wood). It still runs and functions like a champ. Soooo reliable. The only thing I wish it had was bluetooth audio built in, cuz the iPod connectivity to my iPhone 6s Plus is janky, with like 3 adapters on it just to work with the lightning cable and charge my phone. Other than that, it's the best car I've ever owned!
That's similar to what I've experienced Ben. I don't like the way the iPod interacts with the stereo. Once you plug it in you can only use the radio buttons to control the iPod, which is too clunky to be useful. I just set up the iPod to play what I want it to first, then I plug it in. I'm sure cars in 2017 have much better integration systems with iPods and iPhones! Best of luck with your 2009!
Nice Review. My 05 XB has 258K. Never in shop except once when a front wheel bearing went out at 250K miles, and the inside heater blower went out at 255K. I was able to replace the blower myself for $72 part cost. A few weeks ago I noticed a little hesitation when starting off from a stop. Just for the heck of it I replaced the spark plugs and all 4 coils. Now the engine runs like brand new again. Car is still has very tight steering with no rattle whatsoever. Exhaust system and underside of car is in great shape. Other than the above repairs that i had to do, this car has been perfect. Will probably last another 250k.... MUCH longer than I will. OH....I did replace the plastic wheel covers with a nicer looking set that I got from Walmart for a very cheap price. They look like real alloy rims and make the rest of the car stand out. I also put on an after-market custom style set of tail lights because they looked great. The metal body (skin) is pretty thin, but has not been a problem. Car is a very dark blue and still shines like new with no rust etc. Interior shows no wear!!! I have owned about a dozen cars over the years and this Scion is the most dependable by far. Besides being an excellent built and dependable car, what I really like is the amount of room inside for a small car and the excellent driving view you have with all of the big windows. You also sit very high in the seat so you get to see everything even is you are 4ft 2 eyes are blue. OH did I mention that this car is a blast to drive! Reminds me of my go-cart days :) It is now a extra-car for us now, but I like so much that II will probably never sell it
thanks for that review! One thing you mentioned I think I forgot in the video is that I also have the original exhaust system on the car. In my experience with other cars that seems very unusual. The other thing you mentioned I forgot was the wheel covers. I've lost 3/4. It seems like the metal retaining rings inside loosen with age and don't hold the hubcap to the rim very well. Great review!
man I have a 2008 scion and I can say, this car is awesome, space, millage, and extremely reliable. If you find a scion for sale, buy it, parts are easy to find and easy price on the wallet. Thank you
My 09 has almost 130000 miles and much like your statement, nothing has gone wrong. I’m 63 and it’s easy to get in and out of. My oil consumption is about a quart ever 4000 miles and I’m okay with that. Thanks for the honest review.
sounds like similar experiences Roger. Thanks for sharing that. Scion built these cars for a younger demographic but it's the old farts like us that really took to them.
I have a 2009 xB I bought new with 6 miles on it. So far, I have 313,211 miles and going strong. Regular standard maintenance with oils changes, batteries, and tires, but no trips to the shop for anything major. I mention battery replacement due to living in Florida where the heat seems to suck the life out of them. This is my work car (my play car is a Solara convertible-keeping it in the Toyota family) and I cover a lot of territory, so I’ll keep driving it till the wheels fall off! Great car that has performed fantastically!
that's awesome you have that many miles on it. Mine turned 230,000 miles with no issues; so I can expect to have it another 80,000 miles. Our experiences have been really similar. Great car!
@@JohnSmith-mk8hz still driving it. I now have 365,000 and still going strong. Minor repairs and no rust anywhere which is amazing considering the salt air. If it weren’t for Covid sure I would be well over 380,000 by now.
@@bill3mom That's amazing. I recently bought a 2005 XA with auto trans and 140,000 miles. It runs great and I'm hoping to get many more miles out of it. I will keep it well maintained Zero rust on mine so far (knock on wood) and I'm in the Kansas city area where they salt the roads in the winter. I appreciate the reply.
Excellent review! I own a 2011 Scion xb RS edition in the voodoo blue color and i love this car!!! My box has 145k at this time and it still runs great!! I keep up with the oil changes and keep rotating my tires every oil change. No major work just plain oil change and tires. Very roomy and i love that its zippy for a 4 cylinder. I agree with you, if this one goes out i would go and purchase another one like it. Only wished they came out with a 6 cylinder option. Thanks for the review!
Just bought my girlfriend a 2010 Scion TC. 53K, about 9K with everything for a dealer. I'm really impressed with the car. Good looking, loaded with goodies including a power sunroof and moonroof... Same engine...good performance, excellent transmission, tight handling...just a really nice car. Cannot believe Scion is no longer being made.... WAY better deal then any other Japanese car in it's price range!
Thanks for the comment. I agree with what you are saying: the Scion was the best kept secret out there. I guess the styling was too different for people to accept.
I've had mine since 09 also, same color Hypnotic Teal Mica. 71,000 on it. Modded ALOT. HID headlights, LED lights all over, a newer cargo light added above in the head liner. A sub-woffer mounted in the cubby near the lower portion on the back. Replacement speakers in the rear doors. Added more back-up lights. Interior upostery is still in good condition.
I have a 2014 xB (bought Nov 2014), it had a $ 2000 rebate, so it was less than 17K. I only put about 4000 miles on per year, so this car could last a very long time.
I have two kids, one is forward facing and othe backward. I bought it reliability, 4 doors, good space for it’s size (I would not want something larger, can’t stand big cars), because it has a manual (I do not like automatics ), the center gauges have also really become a preference for me, too. Plus it’s pretty zippy. Only way I’ll sell it is if we get an EV. Otherwise I plan to let my 2 yr and 5 yr old children borrow it later in life.
I've got a 08 xB2 with 306k on the odometer, and so far it's still ticking and I drive about 180-230 miles a day and mostly issue free. It burns a little bit of oil but it's been over 130k miles ago that Toyota did the oil consumption fix, switched it up to 10-30w oil it's been good. Only issue, there are some but that damn rear beam is probably the biggest one and it's killing my tires. Worst of all I've hit up several Toyota techs and alignment places that deal with (minivan style) rear beam suspensions and tell me that there's literally no fix for it. The power locks, power windows, and a few other things don't bug me as much as that dreaded rear suspension eating up the rear tires. #madcamberyo Still waiting for Toyota to call me back so they can replace the Takata airbags. So far so good with my 08 xB2, love how the 18" tC2 wheels look on it, just wished it had a tad bit more power and a 6 speed gearbox instead of 5.
Wow Cesar, that's an amazing run with that car. Congratulations! I haven't had issues with the rear tires wearing early. The front's are more like that on mine. Thanks for commenting!
I bought a 08 xb manual transmission, I drove it to places I wouldn't want to even drive my truck in it, I drove it 16 hours from home more than 10 times in a year, ending never gave me a single problem it drives awesome is an amazing little ride i would never get rid of it
That's been the same as my experience Joaquin. Mine just keeps going and going. I need to do an update video on it. It's at about 265,000 miles now. It's not great in the snow, so I don't drive in that. But otherwise it's doing excellent.
I have a 2009 Scion xB I bought new and it has been a great car. Currently at 182k I had to replace the alternator at 172k and the rest has been standard maintenance (brakes, tires, batteries and oil changes). Also had to replace a couple of windshields and the drivers window and I replaced the belt when I had it off replacing the alternator. I carry a band PA most weekends so it is loaded far beyond what was ever expected.
I bought a 2014 xB automatic at the end of the model year and got a $2000 rebate, so the price was under 17K. It only has 25000 miles on it now in 2021. I keep the seat folded down and i have rubberized carpet in the cargo area. This has roughly the same cargo space as a RAV4 for 10K less.
That's a great deal. Yes, there is a lot of space in the car if you utilize it with the seats down. With the back seats up, there isn't really a lot of room in that back area. But if you live in an area that you don't need AWD, the Scion would be a better choice than a RAV4 (if they still made it).
Thanks for the video. You gave lots of helpful information and you were very thorough. Thanks again because people (like me) are STILL using it 3 years later (lol)! : )
That's really cool that people are still watching. I'm planning an update video within the next month because the car now has 275,000 miles and is still going strong.
It is a great car for a first car. I think that was Toyota's goal in creating the Scion brand, but things went south. They were such a great value that old folks like me mostly bought them.
I am in the same situation. 2005 manual transmission with over 220k miles. Purchased in 2005 , and I installed rain shields, front tower brace (sway bar), cold air intake. Original clutch. I drive it for a living. If I did not abuse this car it would probably extend the life of the car by ten further years. I have had it nearly 15 years so I really appreciate it. It burns oil (and probably needs a valve cover gasket). I had alternator failure in September of 2019 and had the car towed. I went with toyota alternator, belt and battery. I have had misfire codes in cylinder #4. I exchanged the plug in that cylinder and that code cleared. I still have catyltic converter codes (even though I swapped it out months ago with a universal converter, though I did not touch the o2 sensors).
They don't make them anymore cause they lose out on repairs LoL 🤣 and from reading the comments below this cars save money in the long run thanks for the video was planning to buy a use 2004 xb
2008, 128k... I live in the High Desert of Los Angeles county, It gets very cold and very hot here. I've never had a serious problem with this car. Battery, Belt, brakes and tires are all I've ever had to do to it beside regular oil changes. Best Car I've ever owned.
I love my xb same year I'm keeping it for life I did a road trip from Phoenix to Chicago and back nonstop and I had no issues. My biggest and only complaint is the gear ratio is too high. A 373 gear with a little more HP would be perfect. 72 MPH at 3100 rmp. anything faster is too stressful for the motor I think. My xb actually did better than my FJ Cruz through the mountains. I love this car Toyota fixed the oil consumption no questions asked. Only recalls is passenger airbags and oil for driver side door. At 180k I've had no issues none. Thank God. I'm extremely grateful for this car . Thanks for the video and God Bless.
Hello there, I have a 2010 xb only thing I've done to it is replace the water pump at around 120k miles and added sound deadning to the whole floor panel from the front firewall all the way back to the rear hatch door. I went overkill on the sound deadning but very solid car and very reliable.
Hi I have a 2009 xB as well and also thinking to add sound deafening but not sure how much it will improve, can you share your experience on the improvements you got after adding that?
I have a 2006 xb -- I LOVE IT. In fact, last year my 2005 was totaled in a flood, and I loved it so much I searched until I found the exact duplicate (just one year newer). I live in Connecticut - NO RUST. The inside is so roomy you can practically fit ANOTHER car in the back. Never had a better car. Ever. And I'm pretty OLD.
That's a great record. I'm sure you'll get to 250k. Mine is almost to 240k now. I did recently have to put $1100 into it to replace both rear wheel hubs (bearings were going) and doing brakes.
I had 129,000 on my '09 xB when it was totalled out from under me... no problems whatsoever. Traded it then for a 2013, same color, same options, with 5500mi on the clock. The 2015 now has around 50K on it, I have since retired, so it isn't getting 110mi four days a week on the commute. Just put tires on it, factory tires didn't last, same as the first xB. Went up to 215 tires from the stock 190s, makes the speedometer right, and they seem to last longer. Looking forward to growing older with this car. Previous commuter was a repoed & mistreated '95 Corolla, acquired @115K, had oil consumption problems. I re-broke it in running 10wt then 20wt oil for in three 1000mi changes per wt. Thermostat had been removed?? Got it to no oil consumption & 34mpg. Sold it to my across the street neighbor @260,000, he's still driving it, 320,000 last time I talked to him a year ago. (I have since moved) We also have a 2013 Venzia, had to replace a wheel speed sensor on the traction control system @ about 15K, all warranty. It now has 72K on the clock, still has the factory tires, still have tread past the wear indicators. My 2007 Tundra just went over 50K. Never been to the dealer other than the initial free oil changes. Had to put a battery in it about 18 mo ago. I bought my Mom a new 2013 Tacoma when she wanted her last vehicle when she turned 86. She passed last spring @ 90 and left me the Taco, with 18K on the clock. I run Mobile1 in all my Toyotas, 5w-20 in the Winter, 10w-20 Summer in vehicles with less than 50k, 10w30 Summer over 50k. I change at 5k except in the Tundra & Taco if I have been towing, then I just watch the oil. Tundra is a 5.7L. Venzia is a 3.5L. Taco is 4.0L, all vehicles are automatics. I change all fluids when the factory recommends. I have an OBD2 scanner, a good one. If you are reasonably handy this is a good investment. The Venzia just had an episode of "check engine" + two other lites coming on indicating traction control and air bag problems. Scanner showed flags for emissions control cannister 'solenoid valve high' and 'solenoid valve low' AND 'master cylinder residual pressure valve low'. Bout scared me half to death, checked on TH-cam.... Put some silicone rubber lube on the gas cap O-ring, reset the flags in the computer with the scanner... 1000mi later ... crickets.. I love my Toyotas. Now: All my vehicles, silicone rubber lube yearly on gas cap O-rings, live and learn. Have several summertime machines with air cooled gas engines, Kawasaki v twins and B&S singles, use Valvoline 30wt in them, change at about 40 hrs or in the fall if less than 40 hrs/season. Motorcycles: 09 Star Stratoliner + 10 Star Raider, I use Yamalube synthetic 15w40. The diesels (1998 Generac 25kW Gennie & 2000 Kubota L3710D HST) use 15w45 Shell Rotella T. Diesels have 'freeze plug heaters' as well as glow plugs. We live on 2.3acres about 45mi NE of Denver @4850ish ft of altitude. Thank You, Michael in Colorado.
Thanks for the comment Michael. I always enjoy reading how reliable Toyotas and Yamahas are. My main thought reading your comment was that you sure have a lot of vehicles to maintain! ha ha I would love to get a Tundra to replace my F-150, but I'm finding that they are a lot more expensive. I know you get what you pay for but I'm not a big fan of car debt that goes over 4 years. Thanks again for the comment!
I have an 09 scion xb with a little over 160k miles. Alls ive changed is the alternator, i have subs so could be why. And i changed a clutch and axle. Under 1grand in repairs. Other then that maintenance. And its been the best car ive ever owned tbh. Love it and would keep fixing er up or get another.
That's not too bad for any car Alek. Mine now has 240,000 and I think the original exhaust may finally need some work. It's needing brakes too. I think I've only changed the pads once.
I just changed the alternator on mine with 145k. When did you know the axel was giving out? The dealership told me to replace but I don’t feel a problem, I just thought I’d ask a XB owner. Thanks
I agree, I have a 08' xB and the only problem I ever had with mines was the oil consumption issue but the re-call fixed that. I currently have 160,000 mi. on mines and brought mines brand new as well. I plan on rollin' untik the wheels fall off and when they do, I'll definately buy another Scion.
I'm not sure there will be a Scion left when you're done with your xB...unless you buy used. I have the oil consumption issue too but my dealer would not fix it...said there were too many miles on it. Whatever. It's at 240,000 now and still going strong.
I just bought a 2006 xB with only 70k miles on it so looks like I could get a long ride out of er. I have owned lots of cars over the years but by far the most reliable was my Toyota Corolla. That car I sold at 220k and not once did I have it in the shop besides for tires and oil changes. So when I realized the Scion is actually a Toyota I knew it would be reliable. I’m excited To see how long it’ll last me.
You should be good Sam. Mine is over 260,000 miles now and the only thing I've done since this video was the wheel bearings. It still has the original exhaust.
Other than little bit of oil consumption. I have no problem with mine. I just keep an eye on the oil level once a while. I have the same color as yours but 2008 and only has 87k miles
There was a recall on the oil consumption issue. I never took mine in...I just keep adding oil 1-2x between oil changes. Just gotten used to it. You should have a long life ahead of you with your 08. Thanks for the comment.
Yea, I took mine in for oil consumption test but they always put a lot of oil to make sure the car doesn't fail the test. I know ways to fail the test but I'd rather keep adding oil than having the car going to the dealership. Sorry for more question, but did you replace anything else like alternator , starter, radiator, ball joints, control arms ?
Hi DK L, no, nothing. I didn't replace any of that stuff. The only work I have ever had done to the car was to change the fan belt. Everything else is still original. For a long time I was driving the car 20,000 miles a year and it was being garaged every night. The daily mileage is lower now, but I still garage it every night.
I am amazed. Maybe because my city has too many potholes. I had replaced shocks already. I garage it everyday since I bought it in 2008. Good to know that the car is trouble free and I don't need to worry to much then. Thanks so much for your info :)
Eddie Please help! I am so glad someone mentioned the AC compressor. I have just started thinking about buying a used Scion but I went on line to look at reviews. I saw on one video, where the guy bought one and found out that there was a problem with the AC compressor. He said this is a known problem about Scions. This guy was also a manager for a car repair shop. When he was talking, his words (because of the AC compressor) were basically "stay away" from the Scion because of the AC compressor. He said that at this point, he could not figure out how to fix the problem because he had different mechanics look at it as well. He said he might just sell it because of it. Can you tell me exactly what they did to fix yours, and about how much did it cost for you to get it fixed? Thank you sooo very much because I would rather know beforehand about issues, rather spend money on a car that may not be able to get fixed. (or is too expensive to fix, if I come across that.) : )
Girlygirl 1 yes sure my compressor was ok the condenser was leaking so made the A/C unit not work blowing regular temperature air i took it to the Toyota dealer got it fix, one weekend & $535. so they ask you if you want to check the car for a fee 15 Point checkup i think, and whatever you pay for that checkup goes to the fee of the work you need. I hope this useful information
@@Catholic101A. Ok. So I definately have a better understanding now since talking to you. The guy who had the Scion and was a mechanic acted as if it was a problem that was almost impossible to get fixed. I've heard of many people saying that some of the Scions blow "not so cold" air. But the guy was like...do not buy this car, the AC situation will not be worth it for the cost. $535.00 is kind of steep, if it were to happen to me, but maybe worth it, if it should need it. But I probably wouldn't go too much over that amount. Anyhow, I guess I am still considering because they seem to be great cars. This is a 2006 XB that I am considering. Thank you very much for responding. At least I have hope in possibly getting a Scion sometime in the near future (lol). Thanks again. Eddie. : )
@@AdventuresWithMe00 what about the cost And availability of parts? Not for the engine, because it is a camry. But things like exhaust, struts, etc? Is the car still sold in japan?
2012 xb with125,000. Toyota replaced pistons and rings at 65,000 miles due to oil consumption. Got to say that did fix the problem. At exactly 5 yr mark ( coincidentally just as I paid it off) the paint started peeling in 5 inch diameter areas all over the car. So that killed resale, cost more to repaint then car is worth. So now I'm forced to drive it until the wheels fall off. Luckily I think the rest of the car will go a long way. So now I have a six-year-old very dependable beater.
I'm glad you got the pistons replaced. By the time I took it in to Toyota the deal had expired. I'll drive mine until at least 300,000 miles and then figure out what to do. Thanks for the comment!
@@AdventuresWithMe00 i bought my 08 xb with 200k miles last year, for my son first car, it consumes close to a half quart a week lol, my son drives it everyday constantly, bought it from the original owner guess she got tired of topping off oil which has become a weekly routine for me and does not bother be that much having owned older toyotas before, oil is cheap but knowing that a car will get you anywhere anytime is priceless, best 1200 ever spent.
I think the real secret to the Scions were the manual transmissions. It seems that the oldest ones I see with the happiest owners are the stick shifts. I still have my first off the boat 2004 xb and at 295,000 miles decided to change out the original clutch because it is just now slipping. At 275,000 miles, I changed the water pump because it was starting to make noise for $23 DIY. As soon as I finish the clutch, I'm planning to drive across country on a photo video tour. I love these cars. They just keep going when all other cars would have had you walking home!
That's an incredible record of service Bolden! Without having any empirical data to back it up, I think you are right about the manual transmission being the key. I don't think automatics have the same reliability or even close. My car now has 240,000 miles and it's good to know my clutch will be holding up for a while longer. Enjoy that cross country trip!
AdventureswithMe in 2014 I was a Toyota/Scion salesman in Northern Virginia at a very busy dealership for 10 months. Only 4 xBs were traded in and they were all beaten down automatics.
Why do you think the xB wasn't more popular? I've always wondered. I know it was intended for a youth market but it seems most popular with older guys like myself.
The marketing just wasn't right. Out the gate, yes you appeal to the youthful feeling of the car but strictly focusing on fickle youth and heavy mods was not going to be a good long term plan. Toyota implied that the cars would be on a fast refresh cycle and that really didn't play out. I was put off by the second gen Camry frame refresh. It may have appealed to a few more folks on the spaciousness thing but the quirkiness of the cars was not going to be a mass appeal thing. Not to mention, with the larger engine and heavier body, the gas mileage was going backwards from 32 down to 28mpg. Finally, Toyota was surprised that the boxy xB was selling so wel. They had really set their sites on the xA being more car looking to take the brand. I think that they really just wanted to focus on more car like modes like the Tc and xD and flubbed the whole magic of the Scion branding. The Subaru built FRS was a quality disaster early on. They had everything going wrong and were being brought in for warranty work left and right.
I agree, the gas mileage should be better. The engine didn't need to be as large as it was, but I understand using an existing Camry motor. It's too bad they didn't just market it for what it was...good reliable transportation that appeals to people looking for great value.
2010 xb. 235k miles. Best car ive ever owned. No major problems. Does burn 1 quart every 1k miles, but at 235k im not complaining. Why Toyota stopped making these is beyond me. Hopefully i have not jinxed this beast by writing about it.😁
We have about the same miles and the same oil consumption issue. I guess the styling of the xB just never caught on with consumers. I know they intended it for the youth market but the only people that seemed to buy them were middle age folks like me.
Same I have a 2010 xb 181k miles never had any issues except the oil consumption but I found out about the recall too late , either way I'm not complaining it's the best car iv ever owned you just have to keep up with the oil. I just changed the Trans fluid, coolant, spark plugs did a motor flush and I'm really hoping to see it go 300k
I have a 2008 XB with the 5 speed. 128,000 miles. Reliable is the middle name of this car. I bought it used off lease with 28,000 miles on it. I change the oil more often than most. 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Only use Mobil 1. The only problem I have had was an oil leak valve cover gasket. That thing was hard as a rock. On second set of tires. They look like they can go for another 30,000 miles. I just got back from a 3,000 mile road trip to the North East. I picked this vehicle because it didn't have a timing belt. I installed an aftermarket air intake and exhaust. That gives me a few extra horses. I haven't seen very many 5 speeds. That makes it more enjoyable to drive for me. My other vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Sienna with 137,000 mile. I have had more problems with it in the same amount of time as the XB. A/C broke twice. Too bad Toyota decided to kick Scion to the curb. Love my XB.
Thanks Raymond, it's great to hear from another Xb owner. Looks like your Xb is not even halfway through its life. I let a friend of mine drive mine this weekend and he was impressed enough to want to buy one. At 215,000 miles it still rides very smooth and has never needed a clutch. I also only use Mobil 1. Probably the only issue I've had is that it does burn oil. Scion had a recall for this but I never took it in. I just add about a quart between my 5-7,000 mile oil changes. Thanks for sharing your own experience with the Xb.
2008-2009 had problems with frozen brake cables, ABS traction control malfunction, windshield prone to rock damage, pillars create blind spots, 2.4l engines burn oil and kills engines.
I have had some of those issues. Rock damage to windshield, blind spots and burning oil. But it hasn't been the degree where I would consider selling the car. They've turned out to be minor things for me. Thanks for the comment!
I barely keep up with the maintenance other than changing the oil every 5,000 miles. Mine is at 246,000 and just keeps going. Your 2012 should last a long time!
It's an excellent little car. The only thing that i don't like is the windshield glass being so vertical. I get 2 windshields replaced a year, thanks to windshield glass protection.
yes, that is something I should have mentioned. I've had one replaced so far but some chips in the present windshield. The vertical positioning of the windshield does make is susceptible to chips and cracks.
I'm on windshield number four on my 05 xb. Have 201000 miles wouldn't trade it for anything.bought it new in Dec of 04 love it. I'm 75 years old now and hope to get many more miles out of it yet.
I thought I'm the only one that put quart of oil once every 2 weeks in my 2008 scion xb with 156k miles, other then oil consumption car has no other issues and drives good.
Love my 2009 stingray metallic blue scion xB. Toyota fixed the oil consumption issue at 140,000 miles. Now like it has new engine and does not use or consume a drop oil between 5, 000 mile oil change intervals. Love it ! .... plan on keeping it for a very long time, just to see how many miles can be put on it.. With lots of head and leg room for both driver and backseat passengers, plus plenty of power and good gas mileage, it is a shame and a disappointment that 2015 was last year made.
Thanks for sharing that experience. I'm glad you were able to get your's fixed. Toyota wouldn't do anything for me. But the car still runs great and is approaching 270,000 miles and I still drive it all the time.
@@AdventuresWithMe00 Happy to read you've got that high mileage , even with issue, and no problems ! Yeah, before they finally gave in and repaired mine I had to go through four different oil consumption tests plus I complained on Scion forum and to Toyota corp.
210k. wow, I still refer to that as "the new scion xb" I hate the thick pillars on all modern cars, they say it's for "safety" but isn't being able to watch the road around you safer than crashing into a drunk driver who hid behind the A pillar until it was too late for you to react. I think Toyota just killed Scion not long ago and is rebranding some of the Scion models Toyota
thanks for the comment. I have't followed Scion in some time. I thought they only had a couple of models left. I think it was a brand that never really had a strong following. Toyota's target audience (young drivers) didn't seem to take to it.
It doesn't help that Toyota wouldn't let Scion branded cars be sold out of the same building as Toyotas. So any Toyota dealers that wanted to sell Scions needed to build a second showroom. My father was selling cars at a Toyota dealer a few years back and had to tell more than a few customers if they wanted a Scion they would have to make the drive to a bigger city.
i just bought a pretty mint 2006 w/ 160k for $2700! i can tell (at least hope) this car will run trouble free for a while. Im a huge honda fan... but Im slowly becoming a toyota fan because my element has dented my pockets. the XB is super easy to clean and work on. if it only had 4wd and cruise it would of been the perfect car.
I bought a 2008 xB about a month ago for $3500 and I love it. The back windshield wiper isn't working and I will get it fixed by next winter (I'm not in a hurry to getting it fixed at the moment).
Thanks Hugo. The xB is a great car. Hard to go wrong with one. I have a friend with a Matrix and it's been great for them too. Good luck finding the right one.
Hugo Fight Review I have owned both the 2006 matrix and my current 2010 Xb. I have the matrix to my mom when I got the xb and aside from not having a sunroof I love my xb. It is a much quieter ride and you can never go wrong with a larger engine. The A/C works much better in the xb I have noticed and I am getting 25 mpg with my box and I was getting 28 with the matrix. If you are more than 5ft 7in in height go with the xb. I am 6, 2 and don't see how I ever survived especially when I had people setting behind me. My only gripe with the xb is, there are no seat back pockets, there is no sunroof option unless you go for a release series (which is very limited) and there are not nearly as many cubbies for things in the xb. And the c pillars are MASSIVE. My gripes with the matrix is. Road AND engine noise were very invasive seating was cramped, that's all. Both are excellent cars, you will be happy with either. I drove my matrix for 3 years/60,000 miles and my xb 2 years/30,000 miles and have no problems with either enjoyed every minute with both.
The Matrix with the 1.8 is far more easier on gas . Rumion ( Xb ) in Japan come with the 1.8 and cvt ...at least that fix the poor gas mileage of the 2.4 and four speeds of our american Xb . About the matrix : '09 and up model ar far more quieter than the previous gen. .
Yes, I just made an update video on it. 279,000 miles now and the only issue since this video was rear wheel bearings. Still running great and driven daily.
I just bought a 2015 manual with only 31k miles. It’s a unique military color. Not really brown, but darker than beige. Anyway, I think it’s a neat and pretty quick well made car. I have a few complaints. I didn’t notice in my first test drive, but I need to lean my head to the side a little to see traffic lights above. The top of the windshield is too low. Just odd. I’m going to try to play with the height adjustments. I hope this isn’t the norm. But on my drive home through city streets I only got an average 21 mpg. I wasn’t gunning it. Is that indicator correct? Is highway way better? The other is the pillars in back seem like they might effect vision. Fronts don’t seem too bad. Oh, minor.. the back up camera.. there’s know indicators to show yellow, green, red.. so you know if you’re way too close to a car in back of you. I’ll see if this bugs me soon :) I DJ clubs in a dense city, just want to make sure it’s maneuverable. Love the shelf in back. The center pod is cool, although the car feels really dark inside to me? The stereo sounds quite good. It doesn’t have the optional premium stereo option. Is that a card? I asked the salesman if he might be able to hook me one up at cost (whatever it is card, reprogram?). Does that add HD and Navi? Anything else? I’d love apple car play, but might not work on this unit. Maybe I’ll upgrade one day :) I’ve only had it a few hrs. Looking forward to getting to know this sweet find! I figure the resale is pretty solid, if I don’t love it.
The 2015 has some features that my 2009 doesn't have like the backup camera and the Apple Play. I really can't comment on the audio options you've got. My radio has been adequate, but I've found the ipod/iphone controls a bit clunky with the 2009 model. Your mileage does see low. The gauge mileage indicator is never accurate to real world experiences. I've found it to normally be 2 mpg low on a tankful. So you might be getting 23 mpg. On the highway I can get up to 30 mpg, but that's unusual. The car generally averages 27-28 mpg per tank for me. It's a manual, so perhaps the mileage is better than an automatic. The rear passenger side pillar is definitely a blind spot. I keep thinking I'm going to back into someone. Good think you have the back-up camera. I haven't experienced the issues seeing through the top of the windshield, but I'm only 5'8". Yes, resale value should be good and you shouldn't have too many issues with it. Since the video I've got 245,000 miles and only had to replace the rear wheel bearings and brakes. It just keeps going. Thanks for the comment!
Absolutely. Thanks for the video. It helped me as I decided. So I’ve had a little more drive time. My 2015 is a manual. The gauge just shows average 20.8. Never ever changes. Seems odd? It’s pretty quick, the turning circle isn’t bad at all. The space inside and seat comfort is impressive. I love the squiggly retro 80’s New Wave seats. No Apple Car Play, I meant I might add it someday. But I don’t think the Pioneer will work with it. The heater is strong. Learning that in our current PNW Snow Storms. It’s funny how the rear view mirror feels like it’s a mile away as I try to adjust it. 31k miles and I drive maybe 4000 miles max a year... I’ll likely be handing this to my 14 month old daughter after high school. .
Reporting back. Having switched on and off the display for MPG, it’s showing much different results. I think that was the “average”, not “current” I was looking at. 28mpg city if I’m hyper aware of my throttle inputs. Talking it easy. I “can” get 32mpg in 3-4th gear at under 40 mph. Still figuring out best revs. I got about 32 mpg on the freeway under 65 mph.
If these cars are so great. Why is there excessive oil consumption complaints all over the internet? I’m afraid to even buy this car because of that. Many people are adding oil between oil changes.
It’s the engine. 5K oil change intervals is too long in hot environments like Nevada and California. Have to do 3K oil changes with full synthetic or 100% Synthetic like Amsoil. In cold environments, this is probably not an issue. That 2.4 az fe engine was in a lot of Toyota’s and Scions…have to see how the previous owners change their oils, how often, and if records were kept.
I had a 2006 Scion xB. It was a release series ergo bright yellow. It came with a 1.5 L backed up by a 5-speed. Being in 06 release series it came with a performance exhaust. it had excellent grip with the nokians and the traction control. I would literally dog brand new Subarus and Audis up and down Hoosier pass in Colorado. Sometimes they would pull over just to see what I had going on. I would still have that car today but the body was to tinny for me. I would consider a Gen 2 XB. The only thing that concerns me is the oil usage. Now I drive a Honda Element which is also an excellent car. That's all I have to say about that.
I bought a 2009 Xb for my daughter and she loves it it has 95k miles so far so you saying your has 210,000 miles on yours i don't feel so bad in buying hers. It might pass all my other cars who knows Thanks
i'm kind of curious to see what ppl are getting mileage-wise on their 2nd generation xB. i've got an automatic 2008 and for city, i'm getting around the low 20's... i'd say about 22. for highway, i'd say almost the same thing... low 20's... maybe 23-24ish. one thing i wish for would have been a larger gas tank and better gas mileage, but overall, i'm happy with mine
the knock on the xB was that Toyota used the Camry engine, which was a little too big for the vehicle. Power is good, but the gas mileage suffered. I'm getting a combined 26-30mpg, depending on the type of driving I do. Most of my driving is on the highway and I drive like the 50 year old man I am.
I don’t know why, but the wind up walking toy in the back cracked me up! I’m looking for one of these for my next vehicle. I test drove one the other day and loved it, but every ⚠️ light on the dash was lit up (even though it drove great). It was sad because the inside was about spotless and the body was nice with 148,000 miles. The search continues...
I just got a2012 xb with only 20k miles on it. Changed oil, and at 23k no oil consumption at all. I have seen a lot off post were they start burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles if you have the 2.4 2AZ-FE MOTOR. Something about low tension oil ring that locks up do to deposit s. Do you have this motor? Can it be avoided with 5k oil changes and not 10k. Thank you.
I just bought a used 2008 Scion XB. I liked that its a "Reliable Toyota" vehicle. However, I've heard of an oil consumption problem with this engine, but I didn't know that before I bought the car, so now I'm paranoid it gonna have issues! Haven't had it long enough to know.
The oil consumption issue is not really a big deal. You just have to check the oil twice between the 5,000 mile oil change interval. I do have to add oil to mine. It's an annoyance for sure, but barely diminishes my appreciation of the car.
@@AdventuresWithMe00 If it's consuming too much oil, will the oil can light come on like when it's time for oil service ? .. or do you have to just check in between? Trying to determine if mine has this problem and what to check for or look for.
@@PrettyMissAshley Check the oil about every 500 miles when cold on flat ground if it is low add till full if the oil light comes on its too late probably motor will be toast. 263k on my 2008 quart every 750. I drive 100-150miles a day so I'm adding a quart a week. Just check regularly don't forget 500-750miles. Keep oil changed regularly I go 5k miles syn blend 0 or 5w-20. Check, add and change on time you'll be fine. Bought mine with 126k still rolling.
OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE FIX: at a half qt low, add one full can of seafoam. Go 4-500 mi.. regular driving. Change oil using 0-20 SYNTHETIC! Add 4-5oz of miracle mystery oil....to continue the ring cleaning process, oil consumption will stabilize. I was using a qt per 500 mi. Did the seafoam flush twice with conventional oil (cheaper) then went to 0/20 synthetic with some MMO. Now I use maybe a qt every 5000 miles.
Quart every 750 at 263k just tried 4oz of mmo for like 20mins at 2k rpms then changed oil it started better. I got scared on the additives maybe I'll try again when I get to 4500 miles whole can of seafoam seems sketchy. It says 4oz lol. I gotta try something it's getting worse I know that. Gonna try pcv replace soon. Already looking for another engine.
210,000 is nothing for a Toyota. I have an 07 tundra that I use as a work truck , towing trailer every day using it hard and not really taking the best care of it. I am at 240,000 miles and it still runs and drives like a brand new truck, no issues just change the oil change the tires, replaced a belt and a starter. not bad for 11 years and 240,000 miles. A friend of mine has a Toyota corral with 460,000 miles, original engine and transmission. nothing but regular maintenance, another with a Toyota Tacoma over 300,000 no issues. Toyota makes the best vehicles on the road.
Thanks for that. That's a pretty incredible record of reliability, but I'm not surprised. I'm thinking about replacing my F-150 and based on my experience with Toyota I'd give the Tundra a strong look.
I had a 06 toaster too low to the ground for a factory car. The Ride was worse than my prius so I sold the xB after it sat for a year. Should have kept the xB the Prius has to be driven or hybrid battery takes a big 💩 ! Just saw cheap rv living do a review of a xB all seats removed platform added to make it a decent camper. I must be searching for punishment I still want a Prius V love the space they offer.
I've had mine for 1 year and a half it's been great have not replaced anything on it I carry a bunch of stuff on it when I moved and also for work and camping, its huge from the inside I'm averaging like 24 mpgs but the engine is powerful and fast for what it is in my opinion I race it sometimes against hondas and sometimes I lose but I win most of the times I have a 5 speed too. The sound system is loud I added a 12" sub the only thing I wish this car had is a sunroof
Closing in on 130k with my third- or fourth-hand 2008. Had to send it in to get the Takata grenades replaced with regular airbags, but not much more. Might do something else about not being able to use the iPod port with today's iPhones.
Adriel Jimenez some new cars aren't reliable believe it or not
I love my 2006 Scion XB.

I would agree with you!
We have a 2006 Scion XB, and ours has only been in the shop once. We still love our car... it's crazy how much room it has inside!
The room inside is what surprised me too Laynie. Anytime someone sits in the back seat they remark about how much leg room they have. It's deceiving.
+AdventureswithMe Yep... we say it's like the Tardis- it's bigger on the inside!
the matrix have a longer floor behind the rear seat
martin martin I don't have a Matrix. I still love my Scion!
I have a 2015. I love it. Backup camera is great. The pioneer head unit works great with my phones. Love my 5-speed. Glad I bought it!!!
thanks for the comment Will. I haven't seen a comment yet from someone who does not love their Xb. Congrats on the 5 speed!

Thank you for this review! this car really is an awesome buy! lots of room, good gas mileage, reliable.
Yes, I agree DJ!
1:08 "no rust on it." My xB looks great on the ground. Put it up on a lift, and start checking out the underside. It can be a world of difference.
This car got discontinued because it was too reliable.
Agreed am a proud owner of the last of the scion xb namely the 2015 models. and i have never been so happy with car, so reliable and have been really awesome with the snow.
Yup. 203k on mine. 2012 and still going strong. Just keep up on the maintenance and make sure you change your trans fluid religiously
@@ottallman I have a '12 xB that I bought used in '16. Has 90K miles with zero repair issues and about to do my 1st transmission fluid change.
I agree with all of that! Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Just snagged one! So excited about it. Mine came from Jersey, in GA now.
That's a great record of reliability Rebecca!
I'm at 211k....I hope to make it there with mine!
Is it an automatic or manual?
Ben Aqua my 2012 has bluetooth standard. I think it was dumb as fuck to have a radio that only connects to Apple products
Amazon look up bluetooth scion xb, there is one goes to back of your radio unit, it has connection to ipod.
Reminds me of my go-cart days :)
It is now a extra-car for us now, but I like so much that II will probably never sell it
thanks for that review!
There is a recall for the oil consumption, I have the same exact issue the dealer fixed free no charges, and you will have a new engine again
Toyota wouldn't fix mine. I guess I had too many miles on it.
I think it’s under like 60,000 mileage
Its a campaign. Mist be within 10 years and I think within 100k.
Its 10 years from purchase and 150k miles max.
man I have a 2008 scion and I can say, this car is awesome, space, millage, and extremely reliable.
Geeze you lucky. 2008 263k and using a quart every 750. 126k was a quart every 1100 miles.
Great car!
@bill3mom, automatic or standard transmission? Are you still driving it?
@@JohnSmith-mk8hz still driving it. I now have 365,000 and still going strong. Minor repairs and no rust anywhere which is amazing considering the salt air. If it weren’t for Covid sure I would be well over 380,000 by now.
@@JohnSmith-mk8hz automatic.
162,000 miles on my 2009 xb. Love my car!!! Just regular maintenance.
James Gmx is a manual? Is it big enough for a new family? Fast enough ?
#madcamberyo
Still waiting for Toyota to call me back so they can replace the Takata airbags.
I love my 2008 Scion XB. Best car ive ever owned.
Same here!
Are you still driving in 2020?
275,000 ....wow : )
Hypnotic Teal Mica currently at 234,000. Love my Scions ❤
Nice! Mine is about to hit 323,000 miles and still driven daily.
I'm 16 and I drive a xB and I absolutely love it's really good for a first car
It is a great car for a first car. I think that was Toyota's goal in creating the Scion brand, but things went south. They were such a great value that old folks like me mostly bought them.
I drive an 08 and I love it, it’s my first car, they get a bad rep, but you can put some good bass in em and really easy to drive
My 2011 Scion xB is still kickin', 125k miles. I've scratched and bumped it before but other than my own cosmetic issues, nothing. I love it.
Good to hear. You should have another trouble-free 100k miles or so ahead of you.
I have a 2010 scion xb and it has 158,000 miles on it. All i have done to it is replaced the battery and alternator. Excellent car for reliability.
I love my 2005 xB. 240K mi. and still going strong. Original clutch as well.
They don't make them anymore cause they lose out on repairs LoL 🤣 and from reading the comments below this cars save money in the long run thanks for the video was planning to buy a use 2004 xb
good deal, yeah, there is a common thread isn't there that the Xb is a very reliable car. Glad I could help convince you!
2008, 128k... I live in the High Desert of Los Angeles county, It gets very cold and very hot here. I've never had a serious problem with this car. Battery, Belt, brakes and tires are all I've ever had to do to it beside regular oil changes. Best Car I've ever owned.
Thanks for sharing that. Seems like most everyone that comments on the video has the same experience.
I’m 22 and I love my Scion xB! I am willing to be another one in the future!
that's great Pablo. You were the intended market for this car.
Same year same issues you got love my scion I wish I could have bought another one, at 190,000 miles ❤️
Thanks for the feedback...it mirrors what a lot of people are also saying about the xB.
The 6th Senz
What year? With the bigger motor revs should not be that high.
@@toyoscio they lowered them in 2011. so mine is a 09 @70 MPH I'm at 3k RPM 2011 and newer models 70 MPH @ 2300 RPM hope that helps

Hello there, I have a 2010 xb only thing I've done to it is replace the water pump at around 120k miles and added sound deadning to the whole floor panel from the front firewall all the way back to the rear hatch door. I went overkill on the sound deadning but very solid car and very reliable.
Thanks Rick, I'm glad to hear you also have had a great experience with your xB.
Hi I have a 2009 xB as well and also thinking to add sound deafening but not sure how much it will improve, can you share your experience on the improvements you got after adding that?
Rick Rosas please let me know
I have a 2006 xb -- I LOVE IT.
I have a 2008 XB with almost 190k miles, i love it , hope it keeps on going till at least 250k ,
That's a great record.
Well I’m really glad I bought one!!
Me too! Thanks for the comment!
AdventureswithMe oh wow youve only changed the brake pads once thats crazy. Ive changed em several times. Its a good car and seem to run forever.
I just changed the alternator on mine with 145k. When did you know the axel was giving out? The dealership told me to replace but I don’t feel a problem, I just thought I’d ask a XB owner. Thanks
I have a 2008 with only 68k miles. It should last me forever. I love it.
Yes, it will last you forever!
Bought my scion xb 2006 in 2015 for $3,900. Most reliable car, still on and strong.
@@AdventuresWithMe00 I might have to buy used then. It's hard for me to believe they don't make'em anymore. Total bummer 😦.
I’m excited
To see how long it’ll last me.
You should be good Sam. Mine is over 260,000 miles now and the only thing I've done since this video was the wheel bearings. It still has the original exhaust.
Wow! Amazing !
Thanks so much for your info :)
you're welcome!
My 08 Xb got 207k runs smooth the only thing i had to fix was a ac compressor im happy with my scion so reliable 👍
That's great Eddie. My AC compressor has been fine, but I don't use AC a lot in New England. Mine is about to turn 275,000 miles.
Eddie. : )
Thanks for a really good review of a car with some real miles on it!
Thanks! I'm planning another video at some point. The car now has 260,000+ miles on it and still no issues.
@@AdventuresWithMe00 what about the cost And availability of parts? Not for the engine, because it is a camry. But things like exhaust, struts, etc? Is the car still sold in japan?
@@LaughingblueSu its all very reasonable. Lots of aftermarket options as well. Shares a Ton with other Toyota’s
I currently drive a 2009 Scion Xb. 5 speed manual. Bought it as my first car. Only problem I've had was that the airbag light comes on.
I haven't had that issue at all.
There's a recall for the airbag with the Toyota dealership and is completely free! You should look into it if you are still having the problem.
2010 xb.
AdventureswithMe I found mine was leaking from the backside of valve cover gasket. Not burning it through exhaust.
AdventureswithMe I own the TC and xB but would not recommend these cars. Toyota quality is not what it used to be.
outkast40
What Toyota/Scion model would you recommend?
toyoscio Toyota CHR was a Scion product and I would give them a look. It has a smaller engine but hopefully without engine problems.
outkast40
Thanks. I know many felt the zenith of Toyota quality was in early 2000s (before 2006?) and it been a downhill drop since then.
I also own the same Scion xB, but my is 2008 with 150,000 plus miles
good deal, sounds like another reliable xB
These cars are work horses! The wife and I have a 2012. About to hit 85k. Not one issue. Just keep up with it’s maintenance.
Same here Tony. Mine is at 270,000 miles now. Still using the same amount of oil.
@@AdventuresWithMe00 how much oil between so many miles?
I just got one! 2011 I'm in love!!!
Congrats! Mine is still rolling along. Doing great!
@@AdventuresWithMe00 That's wonderful! Happy to hear that.
@@lanadavis5820 Too bad they did away with the coolant temp gauge, though they did add telescope for 2011
I just got rid of my 2008 xB with 287,534 And bought a 2012 xB
Very nice! You may be the xB mileage champ! I am still driving my 2009 and it has 278,000 miles now, still going strong.
210k. wow, I still refer to that as "the new scion xb"
I hate the thick pillars on all modern cars, they say it's for "safety" but isn't being able to watch the road around you safer than crashing into a drunk driver who hid behind the A pillar until it was too late for you to react.
Toyota is now selling the xB in Australia as the Toyota Rukus.
111k running like a new car
and Rumion in Japan with 1.8 cvt ...at least that fix the poor gas mileage of the 2.4 four speed .
I have a 2005 xb that just passed 300,500 miles. I just bought a 2nd xb, 2011 .
That's awesome service. Mine is about to turn 275,000. I have a 2019 F-150 I bought new, but I still primarily drive the Scion. (It's more fun)
i just bought a pretty mint 2006 w/ 160k for $2700! i can tell (at least hope) this car will run trouble free for a while. Im a huge honda fan... but Im slowly becoming a toyota fan because my element has dented my pockets. the XB is super easy to clean and work on. if it only had 4wd and cruise it would of been the perfect car.
That's a great deal on a great car. You should have it a long time. Mine is still going strong at over 275,000 miles.
I bought a 2008 xB about a month ago for $3500 and I love it. The back windshield wiper isn't working and I will get it fixed by next winter (I'm not in a hurry to getting it fixed at the moment).
Good price for a great car! I need to do a 250,000 mile update on mine.
I've got a 2012 Xb with 82,500 miles. Runs great. Never any real issues. It is disappointing that Toyota killed the Scion brand. :-(
I know, my xB is about to turn 240,000 miles and I would have definitely considered replacing it with another when this one wears out.
I have a 2011 Scion xb and I really like it.
good job on the review , looking to get a matrix or xb.
thanks
*gave the matrix to my mom.
Hugo Fight Review I got an 06 xB with 270,000 miles and I've had zero problems! It's such a fun car
The Matrix with the 1.8 is far more easier on gas . Rumion ( Xb ) in Japan come with the 1.8 and cvt ...at least that fix the poor gas mileage of the 2.4 and four speeds of our american Xb . About the matrix : '09 and up model ar far more quieter than the previous gen. .
I got a 2012 XB with 48k miles, love it
That's low miles Bradley. You should have that for a very long time!
@@AdventuresWithMe00 I agree, I will check back with you at 300k
Love my Scion XB
I love my 2008 Toaster
2008 in Atlanta with 69k miles one senior owner...7500.
No rust .
That should last a long time!
Do you still have this car today in 2021?
Maybe I’ll upgrade one day :)
I’ve only had it a few hrs.
I love my, scion, 2010, it is room jng my home on wheels, love the video.
Thanks Olivia. I'm going to work on an update video soon. I just went over 275,000 miles and it passed my (rigorous) state inspection, no problem.
The Element is a nice car too. I still love my Scion and drive the one in the video. Now at 269,000 miles.
I bought a 2009 Xb for my daughter and she loves it it has 95k miles so far so you saying your has 210,000 miles on yours
i don't feel so bad in buying hers. It might pass all my other cars who knows Thanks
thanks for the comment. Mine is at 220,000 now and still going strong. Much more reliable than my Ford F-150 with half the miles.
i'm kind of curious to see what ppl are getting mileage-wise on their 2nd generation xB. i've got an automatic 2008 and for city, i'm getting around the low 20's... i'd say about 22. for highway, i'd say almost the same thing... low 20's... maybe 23-24ish. one thing i wish for would have been a larger gas tank and better gas mileage, but overall, i'm happy with mine
the knock on the xB was that Toyota used the Camry engine, which was a little too big for the vehicle. Power is good, but the gas mileage suffered. I'm getting a combined 26-30mpg, depending on the type of driving I do. Most of my driving is on the highway and I drive like the 50 year old man I am.
Hwy/city combined average is usually around 26. Average 28.9 usually for highway.2012 auto.Stock 16" tire sizes.
At 55 mph I think the best I got on a recent 2015 model I test drove with 31k miles and manual shift was 32-34. It’s “okay”. But I hoped for better.
They aren't really common...I think it would be tough to find a decent used one that someone was willing to let go of.
Thank you.
I have a 2008 with just over 162,000 miles and no serious issues yet besides the exhaust I just replaced that about 1000 miles ago
That's a great record of service. Oddly I'm still on the original exhaust at 250,000+ miles
I'm thinking about replacing my F-150 and based on my experience with Toyota I'd give the Tundra a strong look.
definitely worth giving it at least a test drive, I like the F150's too though, really cant go wrong either way.
They do and I'll be getting another lol my xb burns a lil oil but hey it runs perfect
I'll have to find that video of the xB camper...there could be a lot of room back there with the seats removed.
How often are you changing the oil on this vehicle??? 210K and no issues???! Amazing
I change the oil every 5,000 or so miles. I've used Mobil 1 since the beginning. Just turned 285,000 miles yesterday. Still going strong.
I did a weeklong camping trip in mine...3 of us with all the gear and a couple of bicycles and it did a great job.
I️ have a 2010 with 265,000. Still going strong. Only thing it’s had done is Toyota’s oil consumption fix at about 190,000.
how'd that work Brandon? I figured at 220,000 miles Toyota wouldn't do the oil consumption fix.
A light does appear it looks like a clock with an arrow...does anyone know what that means? BTW I love this vehicle.
Does it burn oil?
yes, I have to add about a quart between 5,000 mile oil changes.
@@AdventuresWithMe00 It’s not burning any oil. That’s just awesomeness. Looks like it’s the 2.4 az -fe engine also.
Closing in on 130k with my third- or fourth-hand 2008. Had to send it in to get the Takata grenades replaced with regular airbags, but not much more. Might do something else about not being able to use the iPod port with today's iPhones.
I think you still have a long way to go with that car!
