The black banner they refer to is one of the tug, poles with horse hair carried by Mongols, a white one for peace and a black one for war. The white one was lost long ago but the black one, the same one carried by Genghis Khan and said to hold his soul, managed to survive all the way up to 1937 when the monastery it was kept in was destroyed in the Stalinist purges. It's what Khan is carrying in the flashback and what they later carry on motorcycles and it's topped with a Tengrian crescent, an ancient symbol for the sky that's a key symbol of Mongolian identity and religion.

    • @munkhochirmunkhochir5783
      @munkhochirmunkhochir5783 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I think the white one is resting along side Khan's tomb somewhere in his birth mountain.
And it's said the people managed and built the tomb is all executed and the executioners also got executed to keep it secret. Also it's told that thousand horse were there to roam and stampede the tomb to flatten the ground.

I agree. I listen more foreign music, mostly Scandinavian folk than english. I have no idea what they singing about but it sounds amazing. Sometimes I find that if I can understand the language of the lyrics it can distract and take me out of the experience of the music.

    Hello MetalHead.
Wolf Totem is awesome. It's a 'pride' song for Mongolian heritage and the richness of their history, and their spirit as a people. I am sure others have told you that Hu means 'mongolian', or 'the People'. But during the chant part, where all are saying, over and over, Hu Hu Hu... in this context one can translate is as 'Us, Us, Us...' As in all of Us. Or, perhaps as 'We' as in a group.
The Garuda is a pick up from India. A mythic bird creature, the Aquila (which the constellation Aquila was named after). So, in a way, like an Eagle. They are basically saying their totem will enable them to fly and avoid the 'snakes' set upon them. In other words, they will overcome all opponents and obstacles in their path. And like the Great Khan Gingus, or Jingus, they will become great again.
Imagine hearing something like this from your ramparts, surrounded by a humongous horse army, all singing 'Hu Hu Hu Hu'. Talk about Psy-Ops in ancient times!
The mixing of the scenes, modern bikers, and traditional horsemen, shows the Mongols, or at least the band, are equating the motor cycle as the new 'horse'. Ya know? That isn't strange at all. We (Americans) do the exact same thing!
    just saying,
    speaking Frank-ly
I say go for it! If you've already heard of Disturbed's version of 'Sound of Silence', I would appreciate hearing your reaction to it anyway. I was not a real 'fan' of Disturbed, although I had heard several of their songs. My feelings changed dramatically after hearing their 'take' on Sound of Silence.
Another example of this is my Nephew's love of the band 'Slipknot'. I had heard the music, but could not parse out the words of their songs, so my opinion of them was quite low. But, after seeing a full concert with my nephew in my brother's basement 'man cave', I went home and looked up the lyrics to quite a few of Slipknot's songs... and I was amazed. My feelings for the band were abruptly derailed and I became a 'fan' of them as well. See? even an 'old man' of 60, can appreciate new things! (smile).

Who else can see Ghengis Khan's warriors running across the plains into battle on their steeds? The most feared warriors of the ancient world. Throat singing is a vibration that pulls at your primordial being. I experienced the same feeling of alternate states while sitting in upon an Inuit throat singing ceremony...the vibrations and tones are similar (although it is more the Inuit women that practice the art, some men do involve themselves). The Inuit and Tuva people share the same genetic heritage. Inuit men throat singing: th-cam.com/video/7bCWVSUhNt8/w-d-xo.html

The bit where they refer to Garuda is a reference to the divine eagle-god in Hindu mythology. The mythology of Garuda spread from India throughout Asia, and the symbol of Garuda is still widely recognized in south-east Asia in particular. Garuda is the national symbol of Indonesia. In Mongolia, Garuda is the symbol of their capital city.
Eagles prey on snakes. I'm guessing the reference to Garuda is saying that if you come as a snake, they'll prey on you like a divine eagle would.

  • @artnunymiss2530
    @artnunymiss2530 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

The garuda is a sacred bird to Buddhists, almost kind of like a dove to Westerners. The garuda appear at the end of the monsoon season in India, so when you hear the garuda you know the bad times are ending. Also when they talk about blue animals, they are talking about extradimensional beings who appear as animals.

Hu means the humans (Mongols). Wolf is the totem of the Borjigin royal clan of Chinggis Kha'an. Chinggis united all the Mongol clans under his wolf totem. 10,000 is the number of a tumen--a Mongol (or Turkic) division that was nearly invincible against armies of any size when the Mongol empire was strong. 10,000 Mongol cavalry could appear out of nowhere, cutting through and decimating infantries of hundreds of thousands, and they believed they had the backing of Munkh Khukh Tengri (Eternal Blue Heaven) to punish the wicked enemies. Thus, the lyric, "Ten thousand of us will hand you the wrath of Heaven!" Second time reactions would probably have the best chance of being interesting if it were your favorite of the past songs.

    Taken from Wikipedia
    Mongolia
The Garuda, known as Khangarid, is the symbol of the capital city of Mongolia, Ulan Bator.[36] According to popular Mongolian belief, Khangarid is the mountain spirit of the Bogd Khan Uul range who became a follower of Buddhist faith. Today he is considered the guardian of that mountain range and a symbol of courage and honesty.
Khangarid (Хангарьд), a football (soccer) team in the Mongolia Premier League also named after Garuda.
Garuda Ord (Гаруда Орд), a private construction and trading company based in Ulaanbaatar, also named after Garuda.
State Garuda (Улсын Гарьд) is a title given to the debut runner up in wrestling tournament during Mongolian National Festival Naadam.

In Mongol culture the Khan Garudi means warrior angel and lord of the war, wild animals. We called KhanGardi ᠀᠋ ᠬᠠᠨ ᠭᠠᠷᠥᠳᠢ ᠀᠋ if you don't know Mongolian culture you don't understand this song

Between Yuve Yuve Yu and Wolf Totem, Yuve trends more towards a rock song lamenting losing your history, where Wolf Totem is more of a fight song that tends more towards metal. I think of the two, I like Wolf Totem more, but both are excellent songs, just different flavors.

Yeah, other then the specific instruments and the throat singing, it would fit right in with Gothic Country genre wise. Which seems unlikely to have been the inspiration, though we're in the internet musical age, so not completely impossible.

At last a competent review!! Thank you so much. My family is from North Carolina and Virginia. You recognized the Souther/Blue Grass influences of the music and were able to see the Mongolian Fighting Spirit and historical connection. I can see this music being performed in Georgia and being a Big Hit!!

No different to all nations with their issues. But they still have a pride.

Tengger Cavalry is just a joke. This Chinese guy (The main singer who pick up a Mongolian name ) can't play Morin Khuur (Mongolian Horse Head Fiddle) and even doesn't know Huumii (Throat singing) just pretend to show. Enough Chinese copy and fake shit.

Awesome music. Just found the Hu from a Google news item. That led me to your channel.
    I have subscribed.
Through my beloved ex I developed a love for music from Sinaloa Mexico.
    Estilo La Banda.
Daughter has gotten me into BandMaid, XJapan and BABYMETAL from Japan. Trying to get me into K-pop too. Also Rammstein.
I can't understand a darn thing they're singing but the music....the music moves me, inspires me, getting me sometimes up off my olde backside.
    can't head-bang like I used to. LOL
You're right don't matter if u can understand their language but it's the music its the blending of the words and music of the instruments that pull you in and fill ur soul with joy.
