    Howdy fella. One of the better representations of soundscapes from the tweed champ. Hoping a small trio or 4 som
    Will show what it can do in a band
    situation.....oh well... this'll havta do till then.... marvelous playing by the way 🍷

    • @bltfan1976
      @bltfan1976  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the amp would probably work well with a trio in a small room like a coffee shop or the corner of a bar/restaurant. But any club gig where you have to be heard with a loud drummer, you'll need to mic it. And then it might just get swallowed up on stage. Hopefully this summer I can test these theories out.

    I have a new tweed champ and love it, but can’t seem to get the tone you’re producing. you seem to have it perfectly dialed in. Great sound. Post more videos. They’re great.

      Thanks again. All these tweed amps seem to sound a little different from one another, and different guitars and speakers seem to change their tone drastically.

      Try putting a 12AX7 / ECC83 tube in it? Also takes a while to break in the speaker nicely.

    The Champ still is one of the best amps for recordings.
    Easy to record and to place the signal in the mix.
    Btw.my favorite combination too, Tele and Champ.
    Or Les Paul jr. and Champ not bad as well.

    • @bltfan1976
      @bltfan1976  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man, it's my go to amp for most lead playing these days when I record. I'll have to try a les paul jr through one. I can see the P90s having a similar effect.

    Killer. I have a 58 champ but I need to use an overdrive pedal to get a crunch that I like. Are you going through a pedal or straight in? Thanks.

    • @bltfan1976
      @bltfan1976  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks man! I'm going straight in. It's probably 3/4 of the way up if I remember. Maybe a little more. It seems like different amps of the same year/model will distort at different spots. And of course different guitars and speakers effect the sound. It does have a newer OT. Those might be some of the reasons but I'm no expert.

    What mics are you using here?

    • @bltfan1976
      @bltfan1976  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's an Electro-Voice RE11 dynamic mic in front of the amp. It seems to work great on guitar amps. I had another mic farther away but did not use that track so just stuck with the RE11.

    Are those stock pickups? Which pickup selector are playing on each guitar? Great sound, btw. I love both the Tele and Strat with the Champ. Nice playing too.

    • @bltfan1976
      @bltfan1976  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes those are the stock pickups. I'm using the bridge pickup on both guitar tracks. Which usually can sound super bright or harsh with other amps. But with this champ it seems to compress and thicken up and sound more meaty. Thanks for the compliments.

    Bill, this is another great song and demo of the tweed champ's versatility and classic rock tone! These sound great. What mic do you record with? Take care, buddy!

    • @bltfan1976
      @bltfan1976  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Thanks Chris! The microphone looks to be an EV RE11. It's a dynamic mic. I did have another mic set up a few feet away on a different track but didn't end up using it because it didn't really pick up well. A friend of mine gave the EV to me years ago and I found it awhile back and it seemed to work great on amps. I usually use the EV when I turn amps up loud and I use a Sennheiser condenser when things are more quiet. Anyway, take care and thanks for the interest!

    You get great recorded tone! I would love to hear about your chain? Obviously, you mic your amp...do you use an out board Pre, Plug-in or go straight into a DAW? It’s sounds like you do your own Drums and Bass? How do you mic them?
    Anyway, enjoy the music!

    • @bltfan1976
      @bltfan1976  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The drums were the most work since I'm not a real drummer. I recorded the drums to an old zoom hd16 using the Andy Johns drum mic technique which is 4 mics. Then i did a stereo track to garageband and fixed any obvious mistakes and added eq. Then I placed that into the Tascam dp-008 which doesn't have the best pre-amps. That's where I did the bass and guitar overdubs. And that's just the mic you see in front of the amp. I didn't end up using a second mic I had placed two feet away. I used the reverb that comes with tascam and I mixed down to a stereo track. Then I put the stereo track through cloudbounce which is an online AI mastering service. After writing this I think I did way too much work! But that's what happens when I don't plan things out well in the first place. One thing I'm going to do from now on is use an outboard analog mixing board with the tascam because it has better pre-amps that aren't as noisy.

      Thank You! I’m just planning out how to start recording stuff...broke, still out of work from Covid-19. I’m trying to get some advice, and I like the sound of your stuff. The “Traditional” sounding Americana is what I’m shooting for, and you NAIL it.
      I live in a small apartment, and I can’t play drums, so that will have to be digital, but I can pull off the rest!
