  • On a trip through Peru, we had this vision of Rob riding the ancient reed-mats that some historians argue pre-date Hawaiian surfing. And so he did. But he also rode his alaia - the traditional board of ancient Hawaiian surfers -- in that same session. Seeing them side by side and beneath the feet of Machado, history was a bit better understood. So thought we, at least.

That's gotta be the best I've ever seen anyone ride an alia ever. Not surprised it's Rob riding it. Flow master.

Rob's and Rasta's parts in this movie are just pure poetry in motion...

Taylor thank you of posting all your cool footage. Fun to watch. Still laughing at your music video of Curren & his girlfriend (now wife dumping him in the video skit). You have a great sense of humor.
I was thinking about John John, Eli, Nathan, Koa all on the list of the Eddie invite list this year (Only two missing Ivan & Kiron). How cool is that? Now there's a movie script for you...all of these kids growing up on the North Shore (who doesnt want to grow up on the NS) and now ALL elite top pro surfers. There is a video interview on the net of JJ, Nathan, Ivan, Kiron, Eli & Koa from a few years back that shows how tight they really are & how much they rag on each other for fun. Wonder why no one has made a movie about them?? Maybe you can make a film about their journey to the top while still maintaining their tight brotherly/friendship bond? Just a thought.

Sorry Peru and so-called surf historians, calling a fishing reed boat riding whitewash to shore “surfing” is as ridiculous as Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon Tiki give me a break
