- Welcome to the Video! Let’s have a Swatching Party! 🥳 & a Sketchbook Flip Through! We’ll also talk about my process for very quickly capturing the landscape in front of you when painting on location.. . It’s a tricky thing to do when you only have a few minutes & don’t want heavy wet on wet washes {when everything can just blend together in a big watery mess} so I’ve fine tuned a few ideas that may help.. . Happy Painting!
{*side note ~ my mum said, “i love some of those paintings you said you didnt really like”} & i realized i should preface with the understanding that theres nothing wrong with those colors or paintings per se & thats the beauty of art ~ that we all like slightly different things, in my pursuit though of what im thinking about & trying to create it just wasn’t what i had in mind, thats all ☺️
Colors in the Order Swatched ~
Greenleaf & Blueberry Pyrrol Red
G&B Benzim Orange
Winsor & Newton Cadmium Free Lemon Yellow
G&B Swiss Violet Earth
Rivervale Pink Pipestone
Daniel Smith Sedona
Kremer Pigments Thulite {or G&B Rosaline}
Like a mix of Sedona & DS Pearlescent White with a hint of a Quin pink
A mix of Sedona & white with a hint of a Quin pink type color ~ i would use Isaro Rose as its on my palette
G&B Malachite
A mix of green & lemon yellow ~ G&B has a similar color called Potters green
A mix of a brighter green like a phthalo yellow shade with alot of white & a little French ochre
G&B Barite
G&B French earth
G&B Ultramarine Blue
G&B Verditer ~ i use this similarly to DS Lapis Lazuli, which also has a beautiful granulation pattern.. . & I’ll often mix in ultramarine or a touch of a deeper blue or purple to add depth
A gallo Zirconium Blue
A gallo Copper
Like a mix of copper & white or a cobalt turquoise & white
G&B ultramarine Violet
Like DS Lavender or W&N Smalt with white {or a blue, purple & white}
DS Purpurite
G&B Slate
I like to use the Titanium White from Grumbacher, i find it beautifully creamy!

Roman Szmal are also an excellent affordable option, they have many of these colors ~ even a malachite! I’d actually really like to organize a smaller palette with their paints, when I ordered they were only offering full pans which are a little too big for me for en plein air, but now they offer half pans!
I also watched this video from @LeslieStroz Last week & it was absolutely wonderful! She explains everything so thoughtfully! She has an amazing amount of ideas & options for tiny palettes & how to use them!

Enjoy your videos so much. Very warm and calming. Your mountains look a lot like our Blue Ridge mountains here just outside Washington, DC (Northern Virginia) in the US. I enjoy seeing them in the distance from the wineries we go to. Beautiful views!

Aww Thankyou Ever So! Believe me, nothing about these videos is easy, & especially trying to figure out how to paint what you can envision.. . I saw the most beautiful sunset & was standing there with my hands almost frozen & just ended up with a puddle of muck on the page.. . I think it’s a lot about perseverance & practice, that’s the magic key! I have a whole playlist on improving at watercolor fast & just tried to put any & every tip & exercise I could think of that I would have liked to be shown when I was learning, hopefully that helps.. . I can’t stress enough that just playing, swatching & mixing will teach you so much about how to handle the brush & you will really start to understand pigment to water ratio etc naturally.. . The only other piece of advice I think is helpful is to paint what you love, what you’re interested in, & use the colors you dream of! Have so many little painting parties 🎉 ☺️ I squeeze them in every chance I get! They aren’t always successful but that’s part of figuring it all out! Happy Painting! 🌬️✨🤗🎉🎨💕🧁

I practiced holding my phone in front of me & actually watching the phone screen while I paint so you get to see the painting close up, it’s a bit tricky sometimes but I’m glad you like it! I feel like it’s easier to see the colors & pigments, & the way everything works! I’m so glad you noticed! 🤗✨💗🍓
