Everyone who scrolls down to the comments, sort by New. All these comments with their injuries are horrifying. Regular, fractured my rib and my left elbow. The last crash in the video looks exactly how I fell, except my arm got caught under me and I rolled. Luckily no surgery or cast, just therapy/rehab. I was wearing my Helmet and there's a big scratch on it from when I rolled. I've had my Pint for 3 weeks when this happened. I'm not exactly sure what happened. I was cruising around 11-12 mph, with 90% battery, and next thing you know I'm flying through the air! I may have over accelerated but I'm not sure. If FM can design this board to where it balances for you, then they can create a a more safe way for it to "shut off". I don't want to hear any fan boys saying "oh that's impossible, it's physics bro, nothing they can do, git gud". Why can't they implement something where the board will slow down before coming to a complete stop? My Pint is for sale with 60 miles if anyone is interested lol. I think FM's next board will either make or break them. As soon as a politician takes notice, they will raise concern and it will be downhill from there. Stay safe everyone.
I've had my onewheel for about a month now and have logged over 160 miles. From day 1 I've respected the wheel. I take it easy and I am always mindful of pushback. I haven't fallen once. I truly believe that onewheels are safe as long as you are cautious.
Finally someone smart. Think of it like a capri-sun; respect that shit. Pushback is so easy to not go past, like come on. Also, know the terrain you are going over!! These things are like jeeps, they can go over anything. But you have to adjust your speed according to how the ground is. Had mine for 8 days now and have 62 miles. Only fallen at super low speeds trying to go over stuff that was too big. Walked it out no problem.
@Cyril Scetbon battery overcharge is only when at 100% and you try to go down a giant hill. Simply do not charge to full if you live on top of a hill. Or run the battery down several percent before going downhill
@Cyril Scetbon many falls have been caught on video because people ride incorrectly and are not aware of how the board works. Learn how the board works and adjust your riding habits. These things are not on autopilot. You need to be conscious and learn how the board works just like driving a car. This "issue" you are bringing up is a safety shutoff so you dont ruin your battery and have to pay several hundred shipping it back to FM. Simply respect the board or you probably shouldnt be riding
I have been going back and forth on buying for a year and was planning to pick up a pint this Saturday, but I always psych myself out watching these kinds of videos.
Just bought a Onewheel XR - rode three days, loved every minute of it. I grew up skateboarding , surfing and later in life, snowboarding. I felt totally comfortable on the board. Then I fell off, not going fast - very slow. Fell back and put my arm down first and jammed it into my shoulder socket. Now it seems I have a rotator cuff injury. Have to get an MRI. I am 56 almost 57, maybe my days on a land board are over. Surfing is still my passion but live far away from the beach. The Onewheel was going to be my training. Still deciding if I should sell it. Love the videos Jimmy keep it up.
I’ve been an owner of a onewheel pint for one week now and at 35 years old I just left the ER for my first broken bone, 3 fractures to my left (leading) clavicle.
This is one of the most common injuries for cyclists too, especially MTB riders. You get launched forwards, stick your arm out to break your fall, and the shock travels up your arm and transfers directly to the clavicle.
My conclusion on my fall was that I shouldn’t have leaned at all the problem is in “trying hard” to go faster. Even though I haven’t been riding long I’ve noticed something about my pint, I have to try to slow down. It wants to go the second I step on it. It reaches toward its top speed on its own. (Depending of course on the mode it’s in.) I went to 2 different doctors and a physical therapist and it wasn’t until today, 3 MONTHS down the line that i visited a chiropractor and he put my arm back into its socket. This lesson has hurt. My take away? On an electric board of any sort I’ll never be in a hurry to get somewhere! I only ride during times of leisure. I don’t try to go just to stop. Imagine not having your weight forward but back... skidding to a stop instead of face planting.🤷♂️ Don’t rely on your sensor. It’s not perfect, mine seemed to lose half my foot thus deactivating the board and sending me humerus first into a painful lesson. Don’t be me. Don’t be Casey. Stay smart, wear safety gear and remember interaction is required in stopping and turning not going.😁✌️
I've had a bad fall on my Spectra e-skateboard, sprang my right ankle badly, it also used sensors to control how it reacts to you, the fall caused mainly because of the failure of the sensors (kept speed up and couldn't break), after that, I sold my board and recovered(mentally as well) for 6 months, now I just got a boosted board which is much longer and uses remote to control the board over Bluetooth, I'm feeling more secure rn. Lesson learnt, never trust the SENSORS, it will fail on you anytime.
I already broke my collarbone on my lead shoulder, so I've gotten that out of the way already! Edit 11 months later: I finally got my pint and am loving it to bits.
This spring had lead shoulder injury riding on wet rutted grass about 12 mph doing carving turns on a berm. Happened sooo fast. I was and always wear a ballistic motorcycle jacket. It has ergonomic hard pads in the right places to help disperse the impact energy. Great protection!
Had my first nosedive at 20.5mph last week. I disrespected the board and tried to lean into it instantly while already going at top speed. No way the board would have been able to give me a pushback at that lean angle and travel speed. Didn’t break anything, but my wound is still trying to close a week later.
Yeah, totally correct Jimmy! I had a couple hundred kilometers on my pint. Was bombing around one night and dropped like a bag of hammers. I'm mindful of the pushback but hit a bump at high speed which caused me to accelerate and seize up the board. I ride goofy... I didn't break anything thank goodness. But lots of road rash on my right side and banged up my right elbow & hip...and bruised my ribs and contused by lung. I didn't even realize that I hit my head until I removed my Bern helmet and saw that it was completely cracked along the back. WEAR YOUR GEAR! definitely saved my melon and probably my life. I had run out a couple other potential wrecks and thought I was invincible...I wasn't going to wear my helmet that night... luckily I did... WEAR YOUR GEAR. One full month recovery and had to sleep upright in a pillow cocoon... not fun. Shout out to my osteopath, Dr. Mel, in Hamilton, ON who pushed all my stuff back into place... emergency room doctor just took X-rays and sent me home in pain :( I'm back on the horse now and love my OneWheel and won't give it up... but certainly gained even more respect for it as Jimmy suggests!
I own a pint and haven’t even come close to falling yet. Usually don’t go over 12 mph. I’m gonna assume falls happen much less on the pint. And for this reason I’m extremely glad I did not buy the XR. The larger size of the XR would probably give me a false sense of security at higher speeds which would make me wanna push the limits a bit. Buy a pint guys or just don’t be speed demons.
The Pint, due to its smaller wheel, I believe has more torque and less top end. Same thing happens on electric skateboards, the bigger wheels have higher speed but the smaller wheels have more acceleration and torque. Your feet are also closer together on the pint then on the XR, so you are more centered over the wheel and less chance to over power the board due to less lever weight on one end. I have both and I have purposely experimented with this. Pint is awesome!!
Broke my clavicle on Christmas due to pushback at 22 mph on pint x. Healed up pretty quick and watched a few vids on riding the new wheel . I think the best advice is get to know the board and respect pushback and you will love it
I don't know how I walked away from all my 3 nosedive with just minor damage and no broken bones. After that I decided to just live the float life and not be a speed demon.
When my Pint nosedived, I grazed my hip and elbow, bruised my shoulder, and the side of my head hit the ground (right-side, as I'm goofy). I always wear protection (helmet, elbow pads and wrist guards), so my helmet did its job well, but I still felt a bit dazed. Thankfully nothing broken, but a valuable lesson learned. The Pint was flashing red at me after the nosedive, and the app said that my top speed had been 19.6 mph, so I think that it just shut off. I was obviously riding it beyond its capabilities, partly, I think, because I had bought an XR about a month before my Pint arrived, and had got used to the speed.
I have only had one bad crash on my Pint but my shoulder has been messed up for almost 2 months. It is just now feeling better. I hit my knee, hip, elbow, palm, and shoulder. Great video highlighting a seeming real risk.
For my first fall. My front lower leg took most of the impact. It's been over a week now and the bruises are finally showing up 😭😭 nothing broke but my meat in my leg is quite sore and painful 😖
fell on day 2 of owning my onewheel, bbruised wrist and nothing else. its now been almost a week since my purchase and learning to be more cautious, thanks for the video!
I'm a two week old one wheeler. I forgot your advice and pushed harder than my skills were capable of handling. On my third ride, I lost control and ate the concrete hard. I rode normal and took a large chunk of skin of my left side. Indeed, your theory proving correct in my case!
Fell off my board twice, checked the app which registered speeds of 20.3mph. Didn’t feel the pushback when it happened. Took awhile to gain confidence to ride again and now just happy to cruise around at 10-15mph and not chasing for max speed!
I always wear my motorcycle jacket (or dirtbike armor jacket), the padded shoulders probably saved me from a broken collarbone once, and have taken the edge off of smaller mishaps. A good dirtbike armor jacket costs $100 or less, which is such a bargain.
Your hypothesis is correct. I wiped out last weekend and hurt my lead shoulder, lead elbow, lead hip/love handle, lead knee, and also my lead little toe. No broken bones, but some gnarly contusions and road rash.
Had my first nosedive 2 days ago when I was trying to impress people on how fast it went. I accelerated too much and it ignored pushback. Luckily enough I was crouched/hunched so I rolled when I took the fall. Still landed on my elbow first which still hurts to this day. Nothing broken luckily.
First time onewheel Rider. This week after my first 10 miles put on the board, Im not sure how this happened but the dreaded nose dive at 12mph, 240lbs, & 6ft 4 hit my left forearm. Dislocated shoulder and a fracture of the ball in the shoulder. But still can't wait to get back on and try agian.
@@freshlycharged No so much boarding , mountain bikes skiing ,water sports. First time in many years on a board. been easy just a random nose dive of the board out of no where.Have to put some of those Fangs on before next ride:)
I have had two nose dives the first two days owning my Onewheel. Day 3 I decided to recover from a sprained toe and multiple scars from road rash and bruises on my hips. No broken bones. Today was my fourth day. I rode it with all my wounds to get some pizza. I'm learning to respect the board a lot more now! I've beat up my OW so much in just two days. I bought rail guards and a port plug to add some durability.
I had one spill, I was waiting at an intersection on a car to pass. The car waved me through, I was trying to be polite and hurry by, I nose dived right in front of the cars. Mainly just scraped me up and hurt my pride. It was the longest ride home.
Your hypothesis is correct. The lead shoulder does get the full brunt of the force of blow. All that energy has to be dispersed somewhere and the clavicle on same side of the impact has to absorb all that energy. When I was a Med student rotating in the ER eons ago, I saw several skateboarders and football players get dealt with the same exact injury. As an anesthesiologist for the past 25 years, I have never given anesthesia for anyone with a clavicular fracture. Most clavicular fractures are usually just treated with a sling and never get to experience the scalpel and my services.
Jimmy Chang - Clavicular fractures occur in biking, skiing, snowboarding, football, soccer or any situation that can result in a lateral fall resulting in a blow to the shoulder or an outstretched hand. From my personal experience prior to the OneWheel revolution, biking, skateboarding and football injuries were the type of sports I have seen with clavicular injuries. Now with the popularity of OneWheel and other EBoards we have more middle aged men (myself included) getting into high velocity activities. The EUCers have higher chance of faceplant since they are in the forward stance but still not immune to falling sideways. I would not be surprised if the OneWheel and EBoards are coming close to the top spots of most likely biking, skateboarding, snowboarding and contact sports.
Jimmy Chang -Thanks, Jimmy! Most of my topics are usually about safety in EUC and other electric rideable sports. I try to inform from a doctor’s perspective. When you started talking about EUCs is when you first got my attention and I subscribed. I like how you are so organized and eloquent in your thoughts which is why I keep coming back to your videos.
100% Jimmy! Guaranteed, it's one of the most common injuries on OneWheel. To bad you can't put up a survey on TH-cam..would love to see the stats on this. I'm actually VERY surprised I didn't break mine after a nose-dive at 26mph (yeah, first week I owned it...lesson learned). I did a video myself on it...the shirt I wore was shredded...I'm chalking up the only reason nothing broke was genetics (very solid bone structure). Guaranteed, others would have broken something. I'm 52yrs old...was surprised myself I didn't end up making a hospital visit. But shoulder scars are still there. Messed up my tattoo....🤔🤔🤔 Oh, and YES..your hypothesis is accurate...I lead with my LEFT shoulder and that's the one that has the scars....you can see it even in my most recent videos. Oh, and the other leading injury.....DOG BITES! Yep, that could be another video....how many times have you been chased by a dog? I've got the scars on my leg from that too... 🤔
Thank you so much , I am a goofy, experienced nose dived riding slow enough on a 15-20 degree uphill. Yes, injured my right shoulder and right arm, luckily not broken . I am getting a fangs...hope that will help ?
If you haven't got your Fangs yet, don't bother. No way those 2 tiny plastic wheels are going to do you any good. And at that price point? Yeah right. Google Sonny Wheels. They are a lot bigger and they look kind of goofy, but if anything is gonna help you it will be Sonny Wheels and not Fangs.
The problem is massive and if riding uphill a lot, there is nothing you can do about it. I NEVER did lean forward. 4 weeks after the purchase, I had three heavy crashes and nosedives without warning, the 3rd with around 50 % battery. After the 3rd crash, the speed in "Atlantic mode" was also reduced to 15 km/h, I don't know why. The battery-electronics-combination seemed to be heavily broken. The german distributor sent the Pint to Futuremotion and they said everything is okay(!!!) and they wanted to have 300$(!!!) to send me the defective board back(!!!). THIS PROBLEM HAS TO BE SOLVED!
I've nose dived 2 times now. Both were sudden with out warning. Both caused by going to fast and leaning to far forward. I always wear a helmet and I need to get better gloves. I suffered some pretty good road rash scraps on my left side that took some time to heal. Thankfully I haven't broken anything yet.
Hey Jimmy, I just had a nosedive in Centennial Park in Sydney at a good speed. I was very lucky, left side scraped and have gravel rash from foot to shoulder so lost a good amount of skin but luckily no breaks. Its like riding a motorcycle it doesn't matter how good you think you are, you will fall sooner or later. I was cut off by a car but the board can shut off at anytime as well, which can make it more dangerous than riding a motorbike. In saying that I love it and cant wait for my skin to heal to jump back on.
I had my first nosedive 2 weeks ago it wasn't bad. It was at night I was riding on the sidewalk and I hit a pothole had a bruise on my hip and that was it got back on and took off to get home. Ride safe everyone. Don't ignore pushback.
I've been riding my Pint for about 2 months and 250 miles. My third day on it, I got overconfident and wrecked on a hill at 19.3 mph. I broke my leading collarbone and microfractured my 5th rib. I also tore one of the tendons in my shoulder. I didn't realize at first how severe my injuries were, and I was back on my board the next day.
I crashed on day 2 of having my one wheel going up a minor hill. My conclusion is I picked up speed top showed 15.3 going down a gradual hill before it turned into an uphill. Never felt the pushback and went flying. Got some good scrapes along with a non displaced greater tuberosity fracture. This was on my lead shoulder/arm.
I was all geared up, taking it easy, determined not to get hurt. Then I tore my MCL just trying to just step off the darn thing and doing the splits. I kinda knew that could happen, but I underestimated how natural of a thing it was to do
::raises hand:: Broke my lead clavicle 4 weeks ago on my OW. Also cracked my helmet and received CT & MRI scans at the ER for a mild concussion. No surgery, but used an immobilizer for the first 3 weeks. Will probably have to use a bone growth stimulator starting 90 days after the accident (so insurance covers the cost) so that the bone fully unionizes.
That's all absolutely true, without s#%thating the onewheel...got injured this year on my left clavicula and got surgery...it's still fun, but be aware and always put your helmet on!!!
Just the way you explained it...I got stucked on a nosedive and then I crashed really hard on my left shoulder🙈I was way to fast and hit a small crack I didn‘t notice, that took me off my balance and then I nosedived...but it‘s still fun to ride the onewheel, I‘m just more concentrated and focused on the ground since then🤙🏼
Great video. I did break my lead side clavicle on my onewheel +xr. Still recovering but can't wait to ride again. Also I needed surgery, plate and 7 screws.
Broke my clavicle on a nosedive 9 days ago. I had just hit 100 miles after a week and a half of owning the onewheel pint. I’ve been pretty good about not ignoring pushback, but I think I tried to accelerate too quickly and sent the front end into the ground. I also wasn’t wearing a helmet and knocked out for a few seconds upon impact. Hitting my head ruptured my eardrum, but luckily no concussion. Buy a helmet and be careful everyone.
Have had bruised hip that looks like I was kicked by a horse. Plenty of sprained wrists and road rash. But never a broken collar bone from Onewheel. A few of them from mountain biking though.
Don't know if I'm too late to post this or not but I'm actually recovering from a massive collarbone fracture as we speak lmao. Went 30mph, nosedived and did a good ol' tuck and roll. The pressure of landing on my shoulder however created a midfracture that was bad enough that it required surgery. So here I am typing with one hand as my lead shoulder arm is stuck in a cast from post-surgery D: I wasn't wearing a helmet at the time but thank god my tuck and roll stopped my head from hitting on the floor--tucked my head below my shoulder then slid on my back for the remainder of the accident. Please don't fight against the pushback. Learn from me and all of these other goofs in the chat who have collarbone fractures or injuries ;_; just don't do it. P.S. After I broke my clavicle, I still had to ride my Onewheel to get back home so I can drive to the hospital, and I still had fun riding it despite the pain. Don't let stupidity turn you off from buying such a fun commuter vehicle
Shit, this video is of course very informative and removes the hype of the pint. I have never ride a skateboard or anything similar, just do biking and sometimes a e-scooter. I was about the pull the trigger on the pint, but this really put me to think, if the likelihood of a serious injury like this is really high, why risking it? So I ask to the TH-cam WORLD, DO I PULL THE TRIGGER ON THE PINT OR NOT!, 10 thumbs up I PULL IT, 10 thumbs down not, whatever reach first! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!.
Today was day 1 on my XR. Didn't realize I was leaning through the pushback. Did a nosedive, couldn't get out under myself fast enough and tumbled hitting my shoulder hard on the asphalt. I think it's just bruising but gonna have it looked at soon to be sure nothing is broken. I watched lots of videos about pushback, but for new riders I think it's not very easy to distinguish when it's happening or how much. I think an audio alert would be more effective, like some kind of beeping indicator. Would be cool if experienced riders could turn it off but it should be enabled by default. Maybe on brand new boards you can't disable the pushback alarm until you've ridden the board like 50 miles or something.
yeah that's part of the reason why the Pint and Pint X have a harder pushback that is difficult to ignore. Some hate it, some love it. I have an XR and I'm always afraid of not noticing the pushback as it is rather subtle.
Just broke my lead side clavicle about 4 hours ago. I’m so disappointed. I was going up a hill, battery was around %60. Probably doing 12-14 MPH. I didn’t feel any pushback at least not to my knowledge. I’ve had my XR for not even a month and logged liked 82 miles. Have loved it so much…This is probably gonna stick with me and my confidence in it not happening again though. Don’t feel like I got the proper warning.
Hope you feel better dude. Currently nursing a fractured rib and elbow. 3 weeks and 60 miles on my Pint when it happened. Not exactly sure how it happened, I may have over accelerated but who knows. Edit: If you want some more support, join the OneWheel crash survivors group on FB. Currently at 10k members. Come join us!
I wear one of my motorcycle jackets, with shoulder and elbow pads built in, when I ride in colder weather. I also wear my motorcycle gloves anytime I ride. I've fallen a few times and pushed low 20s on the pint and having real shoulder protection makes a big difference. There are summer solutions but at least the protection of a motorcycle jacket is a simple, sleek way to protect yourself in cold enough temps.
I haven't injured myself yet, just a few scratches and bruises. In regards to the tic-toc video, whenever you are using your front foot to turn, sometimes the boards sensors dis-engage and causes the board to shut off. Keeping a more centered stance and making sure equal weight is on the front foot helps with less board failures.
I'm 52, just learned how to ride my friends XR, had it for a month. Bought a GT and have 50 miles on it. I treat this thing like flying an airplane, always cautious, always sensing for pushback, always a little scared of it. Been riding in Bay and Roam and certainly felt the pushback, i never got to that on the XR. It seems speed is the most significant factor in the video snips shown. And maybe complacency. In a way i hope my sense of caution doesn't fade.
Dude, I live in Washington too! I did my first full ride down at the Seattle waterfront (Elliot Bay) at Myrtle Edwards park, and seeing you that close to the water makes me feel so anxious!
Yea I bought an XR for me and a pint X for my daughter, 2 weeks in I was super comfortable on my XR and even taking my dogs on walks/runs. Decided to try it with the pint X and now I’m seeing a surgeon on the 12th for severe AC joint separation, this is the 3rd separation on that shoulder! Still walking the dogs on the OW just not trying to run them and tire them out
Yes my lead side rotator cuff and bicep tendon from a nosedive on a lawn. Pushback is less apparent on bumpy soccer field. At least I crashed on grass.3 decades of construction didn't help the shoulder either. I was having so much fun I forgot an important fact : I'm 46 not 26! Like any sport , warm-up stretch is a good idea to prevent and lessed injury.
Thanks for the info Jimmy! I have not had any major injuries on my Onewheel. The few crashes I have had only resulted in scratches. I agree with your assessment of lead shoulder injuries. Wrist and shoulder injuries are very common on snowboards which is something I used to do a lot. I have broken and torn quite a few things but nothing due to Onewheel or snowboards. I like to show off my achilles tear scar as it really stands out :)
the problem with onewheel is that you get confident on riding pretty fast and the speed rises quite fast also. Though i found out that headphones and your favourite music will increase the risk of pushing the board to too fast speeds hugely. I experienced heavy pushback quite fast on my first ride with music, before that i have been keeping speed in control and just enjoying cruising. One thing i wonder, why there isn´t also and audible warning system when hitting the top speed.
Less than 24 hours into ownership. Nosedive, leading shoulder hairline fracture. Didn't show on x-ray due to previous (10years) injury to the same location, but swelling and pain confirmed fracture. I was wearing a helmet and was otherwise fine. That was in April: now over 400 miles on my XR
Very sensible video! My suggestion; if you're a dedicated onewheel rider is to learn Ju-Jitsu. Apart from learning how to defend yourself in the real world, you will learn how to roll safely at speed without breaking anything. Plus Ju-Jitsu is a mountain of fun :)
Can we talk about that man becoming a cartoon character and the 10 immaculate steps he took at that insane speed, in attempts to have a safer bail but also just tosave his whole damn life,?
can confirm, goofy rider and broken right collar bone. makes sense, that's the shoulder that gets landed on when going too fast to run out the nosedive. i had only owned the board for about 2 weeks at that point. i got cocky, stopped paying attention to my speedometer, and that in combination with riding on a super smooth road, i ended up going way faster than i should have (26.7 mph on a Plus). i ended up fracturing my collarbone in two places so it was in a zig-zag shape, and had to get surgery for it - titanium plate. since then though i've been really cognizant and have not overworked the motor and nosedived again. no major spills, just a few wheelslips in the 1000 or so miles since then.
Broke my right clavical in 3 places, had surgery 4 months ago at 200 miles in. I ride goofy. I’m just at 500 miles now. My fall resulted from going about 12mph on pocky grass. I was on the ground before I knew it. Had a helmet on and hit my head and shoulder at exactly the same time. I will continue to enjoy my XR, I’m just a bit more cautious on uneven ground. I also ride conservatively when I’m on pavement and average around 12mph
Just got a pint and have been fine so far but I can understand how easy it would be to nosedive unexpectedly. I originally didn't buy any safety gear thinking I can longboard so I don't need that stuff (yes very dumb). Took my first ride and immediately bought a helmet on Amazon lol. These boards are different than anything I've ridden before. Super fun, but also super touchy in my opinion. The slightest shift in weight is all it takes to get off balance. Luckily, unlike with longboards I've found I enjoy medium speed cruising and carving a lot more than flying at max speed. I'll update this if I take a bad fall at some point. Stay safe guys!
I took a forward fall yesterday going uphill at maybe 10mph...it was a violent rough crash. I wlaked away without broken bones but it put the fear in me for sure. I will be smooth cruiser from now on. Respect the Wheel.
This is what prevents me from ordering one. The fangs sound like an easy fix. Wonder why the manufacturer doesn't include them in the first place, or at least offer such an option.
TBF The manufacturer doesn't seem interested in improving their product. It's stayed the same for years and years. Yet there are tons of design improvements, tweaks, and especially safety improvements that could be made.
I thought that was Marymoor Park! That's one of my favorite places to ride. Yes, shoulder separarion. Im goofy footed and it was my right, or my lead shoulder. I thought I just plain fell, but i've seen a few of your videos and everything about my fall suggests nosedive.
Great video Jimmy, funny you should mention that clavicle injury as I took a spill on soft beach sand yesterday. In the fog it is hard to see the soft sand. Luckily I was wearing my Lazyrolling armored jacket. It softened the blow to my RIGHT leading shoulder. I ride Goofy. It’s just a bruise but could have been worse without the shoulder padding. No more foggy beach riding for me! Ordered more shoulder/clavicle gear this morning too. This is my first real fall since getting my OW. Lesson learned.
I've seen riders with football type shoulder pads, but that's a little much for me personally. Let me know if you find anything convenient and comfortable to protect that area.
@@freshlycharged I think there are hoodies design for riding motorcycles that have pads inside. Not sure how much it would protect against a collar bone break. Are those breaks because of force to the shoulder or force into the hands into the collar bone?
While there are pads and armored hoodies and jackets that protect the shoulders, I've heard that it doesn't do much to protect against the kinds of fractures most people that get injured face
I wear this one. It was well worth the money. Not very bulky feeling after the first ride. www.cyclegear.com/gear/alpinestars-bionic-action-jacket?gclid=Cj0KCQiAtrnuBRDXARIsABiN-7BKi1CBfV8-g66pibSZEFvNsPva7A9_b3PRLYNnxQ-JZyogwF72hUgaAhm8EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
So I haven't had the chance to ride a onewheel yet, but I'm in the market for one. Just wanted to say that I recently fell while snowboarding, and tore basically everything there was to tear... Grade 4 AC. I had surgery and I recommend it over letting things heal naturally (apparently some doctors don't initially recommend it, especially if it's lower grade). After some physiotherapy my shoulder works well and I can put my full weight on it without problems.
I have fallen 4 days ago and I thought I broke a bone or had a avulsion of my right shoulder joint. I had xrays and thank God nothing is broken or dislocated. I ignored the pushback and went faster and the leaned forward and fell. I had bruises on my right knee and right elbow. I'm taking a break from my onewheel pint and riding my eskateboard for now while I heal.
That's why you should install those "shark bite" things. When the unit cuts out you can roll to a stop with the little wheels and avoid face planting the asphalt.
I had a nosedive 2.5 weeks ago, wore only a helmet for protection but landed on my right arm (Goofy rider). The nosedive was not due to leaning, but a small piece on the round socket of the controller broke apart while disassembling, and I rode the OW without it being fixed, it just lost contact....Hurt my shoulder and elbow. Xray and Ultrasound didn't show any fracture in the shoulder where the main pain is. I have an MRI in 3 weeks since it still hurts, range of motion is still very limited with the right arm. It certainly is not the collar bone but I learned my lessons: 1. Get those cables fixed or replaced & 2. You dress for the slide not the ride... considering a padded motorcycle jacket first thing
I ride goofy and broke my right clavicle. Lesson learned don’t try to accelerate through uneven grass. Even though I rolled, An invisible hole in the grass got me.
Broke my left shoulder and dislocated it on Skatebolt Tornado A this past Easter day. Nose dived onto the pavement on a hilly parking lot my second day trying to ride it. Yes, the dislocation itself hurt more than the fracture... I thought it would have been the other way around. Got it put back into place and got pins on my Glenohumeral socket joint and I am currently in recovery mode.
day 3, dead stop in pot hole not seen in grass, went to emergency room, no broken bones or displacement but have no control of my left upper arm. even worse, i fell backward with no way to catch myself moving forward, guess as a newer rider i should not even be attempting grass, considering south florida is wet this time of year and i got about a thousand wheelslip detected alerts on my phone. sigh ohh well, nobody around this area that i know of has a onewheel and rides commonly. thanks for the video!
I had about 100 miles on my OneWheel when I went down. I was going up hill and ignored the push back and surging so I had it coming. When I went down (riding normal, not goofy) I had my lead (left knee) get shredded, and my right elbow also get hammered because I rolled through the crash not wanting to skid. My left wrist also took a beating. It didn’t break, but it took a year to feel mostly normal.
Hi Jimmy, just found this video while at home with a broken clavicle from a OW nosedive. Yep, lead shoulder (left) and cause of nosedive was most likely leaning too far forward (while trying to top my personal speed best of 17.6 mph, so stupid smh. Play stupid games win stupid prizes they say)
Riding my pint around a grassy field (regular stance) I saw a rabbit hole and heel turned to miss it. Didn't see the furrow the rabbit had dug running to the hole as it was grassed over. Wheel dropped in and stopped instantly. Shoulder hit the ground hard. Did not break collarbone, but 6 weeks later still have loss of power in the shoulder and trapped nerve pain. I've found pushback (on the Pint) only to be noticeable when in a steady cruise on a good surface and with the board telling you it's running out of battery. Weighing 225lbs it is almost impossible to spot when riding in a more dynamic way (say over uneven ground). Here you need to be very careful as even at slower speeds the torque requirements of a small rise or bump can cause a shutoff and nosedive. Lighter riders (I assume) will have less of a problem as they push the torque limits of the board less.
Just saying, its just physics, the board cant save you if its at max speed and you lean forward.
I have a slow euc, the Airwheel. Even with cutout I just have to start running mid air and all is fine.
Speed is danger
@Cyril Scetbon it is very simple to avoid though. I have never run into that issue before.
@Cyril Scetbon they are not defects. But keep shouting at the wind by all means. Learn how your board works
I have been going back and forth on buying for a year and was planning to pick up a pint this Saturday, but I always psych myself out watching these kinds of videos.
Know the potential dangers to keep yourself safe!
That sucks, sorry to hear.
I’ve been an owner of a onewheel pint for one week now and at 35 years old I just left the ER for my first broken bone, 3 fractures to my left (leading) clavicle.
Me too but just 1 clavicle break
This is one of the most common injuries for cyclists too, especially MTB riders. You get launched forwards, stick your arm out to break your fall, and the shock travels up your arm and transfers directly to the clavicle.
on the one wheel you get fired right onto your shoulder.
(Depending of course on the mode it’s in.)
I went to 2 different doctors and a physical therapist and it wasn’t until today, 3 MONTHS down the line that i visited a chiropractor and he put my arm back into its socket.
I broke my lead collarbone snow boarding arous 1995.
lmfaooo 🤣
I'm glad you are okay after that! Thanks for sharing.
Fangs and BMX gear really help a lot. I've been whipped to the ground many times and the gear has saved me more times than I can count.
Any time I've fallen, I did as much of a PLF (parachute landing fall) as possible. had banged up thighs and hips, but no broken bones.
I usually go 14-15mph on my XR. Still broke my arm when I crashed at that speed.
I busted my ass on a Pint. That's the cost of going fast.
Broke my clavicle on Christmas due to pushback at 22 mph on pint x. Healed up pretty quick and watched a few vids on riding the new wheel . I think the best advice is get to know the board and respect pushback and you will love it
Exactly what I've been doing
I bought a one wheel 3 days ago and I’ve already injured my shoulder glad my collarbone didn’t didnt brake.
This video remind me my fall. 1 year owner of my OW, Left shoulder dislocation, sold OW, got Wowgo3.
I don't know how I walked away from all my 3 nosedive with just minor damage and no broken bones. After that I decided to just live the float life and not be a speed demon.
chick02ful Yeah nothing to prove. Slow down and stay balanced
Did you feel catapulted?
Meat!!! Great description! Your leg has been tenderized!
leg meat XD sounds yummy
fell on day 2 of owning my onewheel, bbruised wrist and nothing else. its now been almost a week since my purchase and learning to be more cautious, thanks for the video!
I'm a two week old one wheeler. I forgot your advice and pushed harder than my skills were capable of handling. On my third ride, I lost control and ate the concrete hard. I rode normal and took a large chunk of skin of my left side. Indeed, your theory proving correct in my case!
I have raced BMX for about a decade now, and I have learned how to crash and bail. So I have not gotten hurt at all even after going through pushback.
I got to ride Discovery Park this weekend. Great spot in Seattle for Onewheeling! ^__^
I'll be getting my first today which will be a point. I'll keep that jacket mind 💯
@@Lotzo Get the RevZilla Eclipse with an added back protector. Light armor :)
That sucks! Do you ride regular? Hope you have a smooth recovery.
@@freshlycharged No so much boarding , mountain bikes skiing ,water sports. First time in many years on a board. been easy just a random nose dive of the board out of no where.Have to put some of those Fangs on before next ride:)
was that your front facing arm/shoulder?
@@spawnofheck yay front facing hit first left side
Just got mine. Learning. Im 53 and fit. Wearing all safety gear always. Pavement hurts. Own pocket bikes and have bit it hard.
Can you think of an activity that causes more clavicle fractures in adults than the Onewheel?
@@AdamU1016 thanks for the information! You have a great channel!
You are either Superman or Wolverine. Only explanation.

Gotta love that edutainment!
Yet...
Bad outlook with “yet”. I will rephrase. I aim not to break anything.
Comments: Man this thing is dangerous, I broke my entire body
Also Comments: ....going 22mph up a hill, waaaaaay past the pushback
I crashed on day 2 of having my one wheel going up a minor hill. My conclusion is I picked up speed top showed 15.3 going down a gradual hill before it turned into an uphill. Never felt the pushback and went flying. Got some good scrapes along with a non displaced greater tuberosity fracture. This was on my lead shoulder/arm.
I was all geared up, taking it easy, determined not to get hurt. Then I tore my MCL just trying to just step off the darn thing and doing the splits. I kinda knew that could happen, but I underestimated how natural of a thing it was to do
Love your channel I’ve been binge watching all your videos lately definitely wanna buy a pint but I’m waiting for the Black Friday sales.
Smart move. Thanks for the support. hope the videos have helped.
Jimmy Chang can you still nosedive on a pint?
And Jimmy congrats for your interesting videos , safety has become a main concern at 55
::raises hand:: Broke my lead clavicle 4 weeks ago on my OW.
Wow. You did a number to yourself in that one. Hope everything heals up smoothly.
That's all absolutely true, without s#%thating the onewheel...got injured this year on my left clavicula and got surgery...it's still fun, but be aware and always put your helmet on!!!
How did you injure your clavicle?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The onewheel can be sketchy.
The board should not shut off though if you are moving faster than a few miles per hour.
That was a painful compilation to watch! But good information and a reminder to ride safely.
left blank It wasn’t captured in any of my videos, but I’ve had one fall on my Pint so far (wheel got stuck on a stick in the road)
first day on my onewheel i took a nose dive ripped my elbow and hip up but nothing broken, its been a month since and i havent fallen once
Also the most common for Skateboarding / Eskating
No breaks, but when I nosedived on my second day, it was definitely my leading side that got tore up.
Dude, I live in Washington too! I did my first full ride down at the Seattle waterfront (Elliot Bay) at Myrtle Edwards park, and seeing you that close to the water makes me feel so anxious!
First crash was there too ha!
Water and electronics gets me anxious too! So many great places to ride in Washington!
I was having so much fun I forgot an important fact :
I'm 46 not 26! Like any sport , warm-up stretch is a good idea to prevent and lessed injury.
Get well soon!
Grade 2 broken ac joint 2 weeks ago. Was riding under 20 percent and onewheel cut off going up a hill.
Grade 2 should heal nicely. Wishing you a smooth recovery!
the problem with onewheel is that you get confident on riding pretty fast and the speed rises quite fast also.
Be safe. Was it your lead shoulder?
Of course it was. I'll also add that I was wearing leather so I didn't get any road rash and it probably stopped it from being a worse fracture
I suggest knowing BJJ as just general advice
3:11 serves him right.
The guy who pushes the scooter got karma🤣
Broke my right clavical in 3 places, had surgery 4 months ago at 200 miles in. I ride goofy. I’m just at 500 miles now. My fall resulted from going about 12mph on pocky grass. I was on the ground before I knew it. Had a helmet on and hit my head and shoulder at exactly the same time. I will continue to enjoy my XR, I’m just a bit more cautious on uneven ground. I also ride conservatively when I’m on pavement and average around 12mph
Goofy=Right Clavicle... I'm glad it wasn't worse.
Same here! 15+ was my normal riding speed. I don't like to ride faster than I can run.
I broke my wrist and tbh it broke so easily I would think that wrist fractures would be the most common, good video !
Wonder why the manufacturer doesn't include them in the first place, or at least offer such an option.
to avoid lawsuits
TBF The manufacturer doesn't seem interested in improving their product. It's stayed the same for years and years. Yet there are tons of design improvements, tweaks, and especially safety improvements that could be made.
glad I looked into OW before buying. This thing is just way too dangerous for me
I thought that was Marymoor Park! That's one of my favorite places to ride.
Yes, shoulder separarion. Im goofy footed and it was my right, or my lead shoulder. I thought I just plain fell, but i've seen a few of your videos and everything about my fall suggests nosedive.
Yes it was!
Thanks for this video. I really want a XR but don’t want to end up in the hospital. I play sports so falling down is not a problem.
Is there a recommended body armor to protect against these injuries?
I've seen riders with football type shoulder pads, but that's a little much for me personally. Let me know if you find anything convenient and comfortable to protect that area.
@@freshlycharged I think there are hoodies design for riding motorcycles that have pads inside. Not sure how much it would protect against a collar bone break. Are those breaks because of force to the shoulder or force into the hands into the collar bone?
@@jekster usually a force directly to the shoulder
While there are pads and armored hoodies and jackets that protect the shoulders, I've heard that it doesn't do much to protect against the kinds of fractures most people that get injured face
I wear this one. It was well worth the money. Not very bulky feeling after the first ride.

I am a goofy foot OneWheel rider (right foot forward) and yes i did break my right clavicle
What are you talking about?
Left shoulder injury; fell speed reason still have my clavicle in place. I ride slower looking on getting Fangs for front.
Just broke my clavicle. Definitely my error. Too much acceleration too soon.
Yes accelerate to quickly makes nose dive and it hurts 😅
As a data point, I have nosedived twice and both times I ran off then fell on my non-lead shoulder. The second resulted in a dislocation.
non lead shoulder x2... it happens
