Let us move forward from this issue that is being discussed in social media. Being Bengali let us accept Tagore as an outstanding scholar who excelled in every areas of Bangla language & culture. As an example USA & China opposed the creation of Bangladesh in 1971 but with change of circumstances these two countries have become our close allies. We should see the bigger picture around the issue..
Major problem in Bangladesh is not shortage of foods. Identity crisis is the major problem there. People are still not sure if they are Bengali or Bangladeshi or both. It hurts them to discover that Bengali literature is dominated by the Hindus. It was true hundred years ago and even today if you look at their films and music. It is with this sentiment they made Nazrul as the national poet even though he was born in India. Michael Madhusudan Dutta, born in Jessore, would have been a better choice but he could not qualify as he was not a Muslim.

If a Bhrammon like Esshorchandra Biddasagor can wrote 18 request letters to the Queen of England for not to giving chances to educate low caste Hindu or Muslim then it is not impossible for Rabindranath to oppose this decision because all of the people who were against that decision was Hindus Bhrammins who were in friend circle of Rabindranath Tagore .

In this book, writer clearly mentioned that Tagore was made a conference in Kolkata Against Dhaka University.

I am not sure if he did, but you must admit the literacy rate in then East Bengal was very very poor among the Muslims. The few ambitious Muslims who wanted to pursue higher studies, went to Calcutta. Tagore probably felt the budget would have been divided and that would harm Calcutta university.

In 1855-56, out of 7216 students in the schools and colleges of Bengal, only 731 were Muslims, and the vast majority of them attended Madrassas. In 1865, 9 Hindus received M.A. and 41 their B.A. degrees from Calcutta University. There were no Muslims in the first category, and only 1 in the second. Between 1855 and 1877, out of 1337 "natives" with B.A. degrees in Bengal, only 30 were Muslims, and out of 331 with M.A. degrees only 5 were Muslims.''

The issue creation Dacca University,clearly shows attitudes of Bhrolok ie Hindu Bengali Elites of the time towards the benificieries ie Bengali Muslims.Those Elites were very farsighted.

The opposition of some bengali luminaries (almost all of them happened to be hindus) for the establishment of DU should not be construed as their opposition for the progress, development, and spread of education in muslim dominated east bengal. Looks like the underline connotation is that and that implication is false. Most if the colleges in east gengall were established by upper caste hindu zamindars, were were the Muslim zaminders or nababs then?
Even in Dhaka city, previously the famous colleges are established based on the donations of so called hindus.
Probably they thought a substandard and diluted institution is being established for religious appeasement to create a cultural and religious divisions among societies. The real reason is not the uplifting but appeasement and division creation, which in a sense was true. May be, I must say their that opposition proved to be politically naive and counterproductive. They could not effectively counter the sublime game of the british govt.
But, some bengali intellectuals like Salimullah khan use that as a argument to support the bengal partition, which is utterly wrong and divisive.
This HUZOOR salimullah Khan should know SWASTIKA is a HINDU symbol 2000yrs old it was used by Nazis , as they wanted them to extricate themselves from any jewish trace , christianity being being founded by a jew. So they invented this myth of ARYAN race and thus appropriated the SWASTIKA. symbol.
