    I used to have bad impression of Emily from watching her matches. But watching this video how she explains things to Rollie and how she expresses her thoughts and skills on the table, I feel that she is very friendly and genuine, and also very skilled. Much respect.

      Thank you for your nice comment Long Vu! I really appreciate you taking the time to write it & I’m glad you got to see another side of my game.
      It can be tricky for people to get to know players just from a handful of online matches, when we have played thousands. I loved making this video with Rollie & hope to make more of them in the future!

      Yeh, looks like Ronnie. Only difference is Ronnie doesn’t hold cue level with the table as taught in this video. Ronnie maintains a slope in his cue plane and drops his elbow on the shot to get through the white ball more than any other player. If he cued level, he would hit the table rail with the shaft of his cue during the elbow drop.

    See Emily Play! I imagine she's used that Pink Floyd reference in her life. Emily's great. She took the lesson and video shoot seriously. So much so that Rollie goofed it up a bit to offset how intent and serious she was being. Rollie got away with it because he shot so well here. Great entertaining and informative episode. Emily explained and spoke well, and Rollie kept the episode moving. As an aside, I like how you predict the shot as it happens. It made for very smooth and understandable edits.

    Thank you for doing this series I think it is going to help me a lot.
    From the age of 16 when I started driving I played everyday 8 to 12 hours a day at our local bowling center except Christmas day for 8 years. I read every book i could get my hands on and every VCR tape I could get about pool. I got really good. I got a job, at 27 that didn't allow me to play as much, but I didn't really need to at that point. Then I got married 5 days before my 29th birthday and I didnt want to be a competitive pool player anymore I wanted to be a husband and a Dad. I started playing again competing in tournaments and at 45 which was may of 2019. I weigh a lot more and see a lot less. I had to change my stance because of my size, which really affected my play style thank you for doing this video series Rollie.

    She teaches the snooker stance. I think this will be standard in pool in 10 years.
    An open bridge is necessary, if the taper is conical (snooker cues), otherwise it depends more on your preferences.

    • @JH-fk8ow
      @JH-fk8ow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i agree, yoou can already see the shift in younger pros, it also looks like the pool players that use closed bridge hold there head a lot higher to see the shaft better, with snooker stance head is much lower so the sight picture is really akward if you use closed bridge because it covers the shaft so much

    She has some pretty mindblowing insight on position play. I'm going to need to watch this vid more than once.
    I'm fascinated how you (and many many other players I've known) make plenty of fundamental mistakes, and yet are still a better shot than me. Not counting position play, I don't make the mistakes she and other pros point out, and at the same time, I am completely confident that you would absolutely destroy me in any game.

    Pretty cool, Emily seems like really cool person/player, a lot of pool players can be completely nasty so. That said I don't care for stroke mechanics type lessons. But yeah, parallel cue unless you're jacking up for some reason, like stop shot on rail or what have you. Wish she did more patterns, but was helpful. The bit about having insurance pockets, excellent!! You have insurance object balls, but rotation the cue ball position is really the shot, and so have insurance pockets, just excellent, don't know why I never thought about that more. Also really like the cut side pocket shot with outside English to set up going away from 7. Just in general you don't have to always travel TO the ball but can also move away from it, just love the intelligence there. Emily is really smart I can tell and knows pool. One other thing about missing 9's or 8's just try to feel it, as always. You can't measure precisely enough to be terrible at this game let alone good, only by feel some how we are able to make the shots. Just have to feel it, no aiming systems or nonsense no secret tricks to make every ball. And that final point, stop focusing on making the ball if you're playing 9 ball, it's a carom game not really a pocket game that happens to have pockets.

  • @benmiddleton4365

    Fundamentals are a never ending thing to practice and iron out flaws. As a snooker player I can honestly say that playing pool breeds bad habits into one's game, and playing snooker regularly shows how much of an impact playing pool has on regular fundamental mechanics of stance cueing action and technical approach. Having someone else or a camera to tell/show you what you are doing wrong or can improve on is an absolute necessity if you are serious and dedicated to improving your game regardless of what level of player you are. All pros do is go back to basics every single day.

    Thousand thanks Rollie for this video. I love the way Emily teaches and the good tips she shared with us. By the way, I went on her site and found the best pool book you should get for a beginner like me (3 years) : PLEASURES OF SMALL MOTIONS By: Bob Fancher, this book brought me to the next level, thanks Emily !

    20:16 ... The face comparison is actually not that far off, if Rollie was clean shaven like Ronnie, they'd actually look pretty similar lmao
    Also, love Emily, she's so knowledgeable and seems like a really cool person to play some pool with. Wish I lived there, I'd definitely be her student lol
