In 2023, 2 months after moving here, I realized that Singapore-Johor-Riau is a de facto metropolitan area whose persistent border regime doesn't allow shared, regional planning. A SEZ is a no brainer, as well as a Special Ecological Zone to mitigate climate change, projected shared CO2 emissions, and to diversify Strait of Johor's economy
