      Indonesia became the tenth full member of the international BRICS group of developing economies on Monday.
      The announcement was made by Brazil, a founding member of the bloc and the holder of the rotating presidency for 2025.
      "The Brazilian government welcomes Indonesia's entry into the BRICS," it said in a statement.
      "With the largest population and economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia shares with other members a commitment to reforming global governance institutions and contributes positively to deepening South-South cooperation."
      Indonesia's candidacy was initially endorsed by BRICS leaders in August 2023, according to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.
      But the world's fourth-most populous nation opted to postpone its formal accession to the bloc until the formation of its newly-elected government.
      To mark the event, the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jakarta issed a statement saying: "This achievement shows Indonesia's increasingly active role in global issues and commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation to create a global structure that is more inclusive and fair."

    I'm an international PhD student based in Singapore. In 2023, 2 months after moving here, I realized that Singapore-Johor-Riau is a de facto metropolitan area whose persistent border regime doesn't allow shared, regional planning. A SEZ is a no brainer, as well as a Special Ecological Zone to mitigate climate change, projected shared CO2 emissions, and to diversify Strait of Johor's economy

    Does Anyone know of the Project costings ?

    • @mayfoo02

      We cant afford to pay. The hsr estimated cost is rm100bil.

    • @EZPZMAGA
      @EZPZMAGA 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yup. HSR is dead on arrival. The economics just doesn’t work out. Those interested in the details can look up analysis by various commentators like Tony Pua, Ong KM, Ang Woei Shiong, etc. Anwar’s reply about private sector sponsorship is just a euphemism for saying it can’t be done. There is a caveat here though: it was Najib’s project so maybe if he becomes PM again…who knows? Singapore stands to gain from the project cos her outlay is minimal.

    Singapore can join Malaysia and become Malaysian state. By keeping Malaysian flag 🇲🇾 constitution, passport, currency, Anthem people can follow whatever religion they follow. This way Singapore will get more land by joining Malaysia. Army can join together under Malaysian army. Singapore then will have chief minister instead of prime minister.

    Time will tell, how Johor SEZ will take off and sustain going forward. Unfortunately, Malaysian Politic can be unstable. History have shown how the Chinese got unstuck in their Johor Forest City investment with the changes of the then, Najib BN government to Mahathir PH government policies in 2018. Then in 2022, with Anwar's unity government - policies are changing again with the introduction of the Johor Forest City Special Financial Zone.
