The old Chinese idiom Same Bed, Different Dreams ( 同床異夢) is used to describe a couple (husband and wife) who think differently - have different values and ideals - probably not a good match ?!
This is an amazing interview. I’ve been meaning to pick up SBDD for a while now. I even had the kindle version on loan from the library for a couple weeks, but the timing was off. But I’m currently reading Libra so I feel like coming off DD, as it were, EP should be an excellent next read.
what a lovely way to begin a weekend....as always Chris, a fantastic interview and Ed's work is essential, like many, I too loved Same Bed Different Dreams....which I told people about in my own shorthand Same Book Different Dream....a great review and conversation as a writer, I applaud again, your kindness and generosity in reading and discussing....thank you and thanks to ed for this as well......go sabres!...cheers, bob
“At night I walk this stinkin' street Past the crazies on my block And I see the same old faces And I hear that same old talk And I'm searchin’ for the latest thing A break in this routine I'm talkin' some new kicks Ones like you ain't never seen And we don't worry 'bout tomorrow 'Cause we're sick of these four walls Now what you think is nothin' Might be somethin' after all Now you know this ain't no through street The end is dead ahead The poor folks play for keeps down here They're the living dead It's always here and now, my friend It ain't Once Upon A Time It's all over but the shoutin’ I come to take what's mine We're searchin' for the latest thing A break in this routine Talkin' some new kicks Ones like you ain't never seen See, a gun is real easy In this desperate part of town Turns you from hunted into hunter You go and hunt somebody down But, wait a minute Somebody said ‘Fair warning’ Lord, strike that poor boy down” -David Lee Roth
Hey, I remember you mentioning this author and the book, in your Adam Levin interview. I’ve been keeping the name in my brain and searching while I bookshop.
Wonderful to see how your channel is progressing. Enjoyed the conversation, thank you!
Thanks so much for all of your encouragement and support over the years!
@LeafbyLeaf 😊👍
Unexpected Ratner’s Star appreciation. Loving this conversation so far!

Here for it!
Woohoo!
Let’s go!
Let's do!
Thanks Chris. Wasn’t familiar with him until I read his review in the latest Harper’s. Another author to request from the Boston Public Library. 😁
Yes, keep those custodians at BPL crankin'!
“At night I walk this stinkin' street
Past the crazies on my block
And I see the same old faces
And I hear that same old talk
And I'm searchin’ for the latest thing
A break in this routine
I'm talkin' some new kicks
Ones like you ain't never seen
And we don't worry 'bout tomorrow
'Cause we're sick of these four walls
Now what you think is nothin'
Might be somethin' after all
Now you know this ain't no through street
The end is dead ahead
The poor folks play for keeps down here
They're the living dead
It's always here and now, my friend
It ain't Once Upon A Time
It's all over but the shoutin’
I come to take what's mine
We're searchin' for the latest thing
A break in this routine
Talkin' some new kicks
Ones like you ain't never seen
See, a gun is real easy
In this desperate part of town
Turns you from hunted into hunter
You go and hunt somebody down
But, wait a minute
Somebody said
‘Fair warning’
Lord, strike that poor boy down”
