    Everyone here is calling the T-Rex better, just because it is more famous. These people haven't read anything about other dangerous large carnivores, such as the Acrocanthosaurus or Carchardodontosaurus.

    • @MarineCorps98
      @MarineCorps98 10 ปีที่แล้ว +280

      Well, in all honesty the Tyrannosaurus Rex was most likely the best hunter with it's cone shaped bone crushing teeth and a max bite of 12,800 psi... now the carcharodontosaurus on the other hand has shark like teeth and it's name "sharp toothed lizard." Now I don't know for sure to estimated bite force of a carcharodontosaurus, but I can only assume it's relatively weak compared to other large carnivores as it's jaw wasn't as thick as others and I high biting force would cause its jaw and teeth to break under high pressure. Don't get me wrong though, I am no T Rex fanboy and I personally love the carcharodontosaurus...

    It's remarkable to me that people are so bent out of shape on which is "the best" carnivorous dinosaur. Each species was adapted to it's niche or region; "perfect" for the area in which it lived. It really doesn't matter who would win or which is better - they are all incredible in their own ways.

      I agree, but I do have some criticisms. The sounds in this doc feel really repetitive, especially how they reuse them for similar dinosaurs, and the animation tends to rely a lot on jump cuts, shaky camera movement, and randomly zooming in on stuff. Also, I think the science segments would work better if they tagged them on at the end of the episodes, like what BBC Earth's flagship series do with "behind the scenes" segments. Also, the segments generally seem to focus exclusively on hunting and territorial disputes, when it's almost certain that dinosaurs did much more than that. Planet Dinosaur definitely has potential, though, and if a future reboot makes the changes I suggest here, that would be what shifts it from simply having potential to being truly great.

    • @LuigiG145
      @LuigiG145 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Mapusaurus can actually attain lengths of more than 13 meters and at that length, can probably weigh a body mass of 9 metric tons. 2 tons heavier than T.rex. The largest and most complete known Mapusaurus specimen is estimated at 10.2 meters long and 3.3 metric tons. However, this individual was not fully grown. There were also some more Mapusaurus skeletal remains from the same dig site that were found in close proximity to the 10.2 meter long individual. Among these remains were a scapula, some vertebrae, and a pubic shaft. The scapula was 7% bigger than the scapula of the 10.2 meter individual, meaning that the individual the scapula came from was around 12.4 meters long, already rivaling the 12.6 meter length of the largest T.rex. The pubic shaft was 10% bigger than the pubic shaft of the Giganotosaurus carolinii holotype, so the individual that pubic shaft came from was probably around 13-14 meters long and 9 tons in weight, much, much larger than any T.rex.

    • @Red-hk9gb
      @Red-hk9gb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Luigi Gaskell lmao those weight estimates are way over exaggerated. Its not built like t Rex and giganotosaurus. Its skinnier and its bones are a lot weaker which means it was less sturdy, not to mention a weak bite.

    • @LuigiG145
      @LuigiG145 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mapusaurus' bones were actually very similar in structure and density to the bones of Giganotosaurus and could support an animal weighing the same mass as Giganotosaurus. I observed some drawings and descriptions of the bones and they were nothing like you say they are. The femur was only 2% less robust than that of Giganotosaurus. 2% makes absolutely no volumetric difference to an animal that is 13-14 meters long. These weight estimates were made by scientific professionals. You want to convince me that you know better than scientific professionals? Mapusaurus can grow 13-14 meters in length and can weigh up to 9 tons. For the 2% factor to make any difference in terms of volume, the animal must weigh around 17 tons before the 2% factor can make any difference. Mapusaurus weighs up to 9 tons, and although that is still heavier than T.rex, it is still within the support of its femoral density.

    • @Red-hk9gb
      @Red-hk9gb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2
