I bet Kratos was so jealous. That’s a death any Spartan would kill for.
Freyr: Why didn’t you stop him?
Kratos: Stop him?! I was cheering him on!
Everyone: “OH NO, BIRGIR!”
Kratos: “That was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.”
I like how after Birgir jumps, there's no mourning, no fear, just silence and a huge amount of respect on Kratos's part.
The man knows the feeling of wanting to die for a greater cause… and in battle. He has a dialogue in game in which he talks about how he regrets not being able to die at the Thermopylae battle
His words before jumping, the entire cadence and delivery reminded me of the Viking prayer in 13th Warrior.
Bro Brigir is fine . Apparaently he "rolls" and he does not have a "stone" .
Kratos definitely recognised a sacrifice chant by Birgir's tone as he lowered draupnir
I believe it was an act of respect out of kratos…. Also he may have been like “man! What an awesome momento to die; I’ll back him up, what a chad 🗿”
Internally Kratos "I've never actually seen one of these guys win; I should watch him do the cool thing."
It happens.
"Yep, pretty fucking cool."
I’m gonna be straight up I knew you hat he was doing before even Kratos did cuz with how things were going I saw how desperate things had gotten and it was the same move I would of made. Even if death is a inevitable I will meet it bravely and without fear.
4:09 What Birgir is reciting is a famous verse of the "Havamal", a Norse code of ethics, said, in our real world at least, to have been written by Odin. Translated, it goes something like this; "Cattle die, and kinsmen die, and so I die, myself. But one thing that never dies is the legacy of a brave man's deeds!"
I heard it from wardruna but I wouldn't be able to recognise it myself, interesting!
That does still track if I remember correctly, cuz the Path of The Wanderer was written by Odin under an alias to gather powerful warriors for Valhalla.
Birgir: “The boat was being overwhelmed, so I lept from it and dragged the wyverns right out of the sky!”
Vanaheim citizen: “Were you killed?”
Birgir: “Sadly, yes. But I _lived!”_
I love how none of the Vanir crew spoiled the prank for Freyr.
Did you all see the look on Freya's face when Atreus was jumping around and that little smug look she had
Would not be surprised if they assumed they knew already.
I like the characterization on kratos here. Charging through battle lines with a man on his back, not even breathing heavy. Said man tells him to throw a napkin in a river? no hesitation. Boat flies? No reaction.
A warrior just sacrificed himself in battle? Console his comrade.
He's got his priorities straight.
He’s a spartan general who has seen countless men sacrifice themselves for the greater good, is also a god of war who has literally punched the faces off of other gods so why would he be tired running under 5 kilometers? He was born in the middle of the Greek pantheon era, where gods had countless abilities. Some even Kratos himself possessed, so again, to say he would be shocked about a little foldable boat flying is beyond ridiculous 😂 You should totally play the games then you might have a fraction of understanding of who Kratos is. “I like the characterization of Kratos here” 🤣🤣 my guy you misinterpreted every scene so incredibly bad. I’ve played these games since I was 7 years old, go back to Fortnite where the characterization is soooooo much more glamorous 😥😥
@@gbgmacalicious My man, I know! He's slayed mountain-sized beings and slaughtered a FUCKING PANTHEON. I was complimenting the game for SHOWING that passively. Get your head out of the hate zone and take a compliment to a game series you enjoy!

I love how Artreus responded to Kratos' grunt lol. That's wholesome lol him learning his dad's stoic language.
Father and son communicating in grunts... That is both hilarious and accurate with a side of wholesomeness.
There is a saying Kratos has stated and it resonates with me to this day
“Death can have me, when it earns me.”
Don’t know why it resonates lol. He’s immortal. You’re a mortal. Death will take you when it damn well pleases
@@travisvanalst4698 Well guess what, I’ve dodged death multiple times through multiple ages of my life. Some relatively recently. Not to mention, I’ve been doing a few things that are fun and wild that at any point, could’ve taken my life but didn’t it.
I don’t fear death, I fear who I leave behind. So as I say, “Death can have me, when it earns me.”
Death: “So…uh…can I-“
Kratos: “No.”
Death: “Fair enough, have a good day.”

I'm sure anyone commenting on that to him will earn themselves a big story about Phillipus's legendary run.
That moment where Kratos just lifts up his leg for a kick that turns into him stepping on a dudes face at 0:45 seconds will never not remind me of the time Antonio Brown did pretty much the exact same thing to the punter on a punt return.

When freyr said "Sun yourself on its bow. You look like you could use it." Had me dying 😆😆
Freyr wouldn't have said anything if he knew the paleness wasn't because of a lack of sun but cursed ashes.
Being hauled across the battlefield on the back of the Ghost of Sparta has to be the most greatly honored moment. lmao
Pretty surreal, considering Freyr is a God and Kratos hates them more than anything 😂
Well if we wanna technical he only REALLY hates the Greek gods which is completely justified however…. He may have overrated just a seahair 🤣 and he doesn’t outright trust other gods to begin with, but he’s clearly not above changing his ways
@@Nogdog945 yeah that’s more accurate. Hate for the Greek gods…and a severe lack of trust for other types of gods. Plus he hates himself.
Yoooo do you think he’s super wary of Atreus in the first game because the boy is also part god and he knows how bad gods can turn out? Like, he’s not only doubting himself as a father but doubting his own son because of his godly heritage
one of the very few who had a good outcome from being carried by said man too.
I like that Freyr knew Birgir was gonna be alright 😂
"He's down there picking the dirt out of his nails with the Beasts feathers"
He was correct, Birgir was truly a badass. Even if his part in the story was small. It was one of the most badass moments
Birgir’s just one of those quite guys that suddenly get the job done in a dire moment 🗿total chad

I would’ve loved seeing Atreus jokingly asking Kratos: did you hurt your back??
😂as a callback to GOW 2018
The weight of a person is probably nothing to him. This dude swung a tree like as if it was a bat in GoW4.
I remember in GOW 3 kratos was dragging boulders the size of building when we were inside Gaia with little effort, im sure carrying a human is like carrying a towel for him lol

Don't fuck with ancient Greek soldiers, is the lesson to take away from all 5 games.
I cried when he began to sing the death hymn.
Helvegen by warduna. Listen and understand
Can we just appreciate how much Kratos has grown. In the last game he struggled to put his hand on his own son's shoulder to comfort him. Here he does it twice in this sequence, once for Freyr to make sure he's hanging in there, and then again on Hildisvini after Bilgir is the stone taking our two birds (or wyverns).
Yes! It’s subtle, specially if you don’t look for the details, but if you pay attention it really shows how far Kratos has come !!!
0:28 I think this scene is a good reminder that the Leviathan axe is as strong as mjolnir, we just don't see it used a lot in cutscenes so we don't really have an understanding of how strong it is canonically.
The Leviathan was created in order to rival Mjolnir, according to Sindri and Brok. In game we see signs of that during the side quest to find Birgir since we find a frozen thunder in the middle of the Crater in Vanaheim and later get a story of how Faye (the original owner of the axe) clashed with Thor and ended up at least matching the power of the hammer…
during the final fight with Thor, Kratos (with the experience of his first fight) understands that the best hope to match Mjolnir is to use the Leviathan, and ends up getting the upper hand with it.
Canonically speaking (based on lore and game facts) the axe is at least as strong as Mjolnir. 👍
Except that it was made by the Huldra brothers to counter Mjolnir in the first place. Also, the frozen lightning bolts
@@JohnJohn-qq1cw I’d take that axe over the hammer… any day of the week 😁
@@AarkanOfficial me too, it allows for creative and massively satisfying combat. Also, it looks awesome.
The hammer has the edge in literal strength (you saw how much trouble Kratos had trying to get it off him), but the axe is mad strong. Makes me wonder which is the strongest weapon amongst Kratos’ current gear.
7:40 grunts just like his dad lol

Love that scene him just carrying Freyr and Bull rushing the enemies like it was a normal thing lol still one of my fave scenes
I just noticed, at 7:40, when they're talking about the action that created took. Kratos grunts in approval, and Atreus grunts to confirm it. I never noticed that, holy shit, this game always impresses me with how beautiful the father-son dynamic became. How Atreus understands the qualities regarding how Kratos displays emotion, and how he will mirror his dad so they both understand one another. What an absolutely beautiful fucking game man.
Kratos just sprinted carrying dude for like a quarter mile and didn’t break a sweat or get out of breath at all. Not bad for 1100 years old.

Interesting that despite everything we see here, Kratos is STILL holding back. He could definitely run faster and hit harder even with that guy on his back.
Keep in mind Kratos was a Spartan General and Im sure he knows all about carrying his men to safety on his back and shoulders too. His Soldiers luved him and they respected him big time as he was a good leader to them and cared for them back in his general days.
only in god of war can you have a quick-time event vehicle escape sequence that's just your dude running with a guy on his back.

The part where Freyr gave Kratos his boat that flies has me thinking like think about it. What if Kratos is going to use that boat to go to Egypt in the next game that makes so much sense an another big clue we didn’t think about or caught in the game
That’s an interesting theory…
I think though … since Freya stated that magic is tied to the land… that Kratos’ boat can’t take outside the borders of the “Yggdrasil microcosmos”… so maybe he’ll use it to get to the “edge of the world” but after that he’d have to… walk basically 😂
