I am SO happy hearing a pet-tuber flat out giving a list of pets he doesn't want, showing that pet channels also have limits. And not only limits to what they'd want, but giving a good reason for it.
I completely agree! If you're not entirely sure how to have a pet, don't have it until you're ready. If you're not sure you'd be able to handle the responsibility of bundles of energy when you already have a few of those, then don't get another. And know your limits!

Or just don't get certain animals at all period. What makes things worse is people feel like they have to accumulate all of these animals, even though they don't have to. You can and have it be wonderful. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that you have to follow in the same direction as someone else because it may not work out like it does for other people 😊

"owning" a primate, especially the human likes (chimpanzee, Orang-Utan(don't know the English word rn) and gorillas) is literally the worst you can do. I worked with a chimpanzee who got raised as a child of an elderly couple, but she got to strong so they locked her away for a year before she got rescued. She is living in a group now, but she has very strong psychological illnesses. Please, please, please. Don't own primates. If you love them, let them live
Evve Locce you are absolutely right. A child can talk about traumatic events of their childhood, primates sadly can not. Maybe it's sometimes better, because one does not want to hear the story of how their family got slaughtered in front of their eyes just to catch the baby. But it's not the right thing for any animal to live in a zoo, but if we set them free, they would die. Here, they have someone they can trust, and it's like a therapeutic area. As long as humans don't work more on saving the animals and their habitat, it's our duty to maintain their lives I guess, and if they have to live in captivity to survive, at least make it as natural as possible. I absolutely agree with you!!

When she was in the UK, a couple of years ago, she worked at an animal education place and she had a few pets but most of her “creature features” were those animal ambassadors from her job. After she moved to the US with Danny, she took a few of her pets and she left her job and now all the pets she has are her own. I think she also mentioned that she and Danny have their own animal education business on the side, but I think TH-cam is her main job so I’m not sure how many programs she does.

I agree with primates BUT parrots are worse! They can live. 20-100 yrs forever as a toddler lol!! And I have 3 parrots lol! In fact my cockatoos are screaming now, flock calls lol!
Parrots are in no way worse, they dont have the mind a primate has, while they are smart. Parrots are like toddlers, hell, my bird loves to scream at me if I dont fill his food bowl up to a certain height. But, a monkey can wreak WAY more havoc

A friend of my family owns owls, he owns many predator birds, traines them and does birdshows with them :) they are really cool, he lives next to a forest and fields, and they have a huge 'birdhouse' for them, also he has stakes in the ground with long ropes to them so when hes not working with them they can fly/ hop around a bit, relax etc :) im always so amazed!

He's got parrots. He's got a bunch of other animals, which are more of a weight in your life than a child. If you know someone who knows how to take care of all of these animals, that's great but often people who do this, don't think ahead AT ALL and so within a space of 2 years maybe, most people give them up. like 70% of them

I volunteer at a wild animal rescue and we have TONS of alligators because we’re in Florida. We raise them until they’re big enough to be released. They’re definitely not good pets. Very powerful, even the adolescents are difficult and dangerous to handle.

twice-friend Snakes, iguanas, and alligators I thought too? Like it’s illegal to release a “nuisance” gator. You have to either kill it or keep it in captivity. My family has a farm in Florida and they’ve always said they can’t release them because it’s illegal. That’s how they have so many, people bring them to them.

Guinea pigs are pretty slow animals! In my experience mine have been like owning Squeaky potatoes that just need other squeaky potatoes to talk to. They just wheek, eat and poop and they’re my favorite animal. Definitely good little pets

I've owned 4 ferrets in my life (all coupled up) and although I loved them I would never own anymore, they require a lot of attention and work, and would always steal my things lol.
BATS 🦇 I would absolutely LOVE a BAT! Any species they are all too cute!!! But i would never own one. If ever given the opportunity to interact with though, i would not complain 🦇😍

I'm doing a zoology degree so I can be a zookeeper and conservation worker for the bats at the zoo close to my house.
I have a friend who works in rehabilitating bats who've been injured in nets or by household pets. They're usually flying foxes but sometimes she gets micro bats too, they're absolutely beautiful!

Agree on the ferret, we had one when I was a child and loved her to bits, my father would really love to get another one but with two cats and full time jobs it's just not good for them, we wouldn't have enough time to play and let them roam the house
I would never want to own a hedgehog, mouse, hamster, or gerbil. I think they’re all adorable and amazing but I don’t deal with pet loss very well and they don’t have long lifespans. If it doesn’t live for at least an absolute bare minimum of 5 years, I refuse to get it. I can’t deal with losing my beloved little fluff ball every year.

Tiki the Sunday Conure I had a parrot that was the pure manifestation of a needy toddler . He needed constant attention, was loud , threw tantrums, messy with his food , pooped everywhere, would not let me sleep in (he was awake at 5am , go to my bed ,and wake me up) and he literally followed me to the restroom and tapped on the door . He was the best pet EVER !!! I miss him .

The lady I used to get crickets and mice from had two very happy and domesticated alligators. (They had a ton of room). They loved kids and even cuddled with them while they watched Netflix. It was kinda adorable.

Vegetables 101 Tylers life isn’t all fun and silly and dandy. Animals aren’t all about just having the joy of having them, its about knowing you can care for them and sustain their lifespan. I understand that it seems fun to have 30 pets, but it’s not about how many you own. For example, I own 21 pets, and I am just as happy as my friend who has one dog. Lots of people think its super easy to own tons of animals, but its really not. It’s expensive, time consuming, and really tiring but it’s worth it.

I would personally love an owl/bird of prey, I've been to a falconry centre n something about them makes me want to be around them, I'd really like to learn how to be a proper falconer, train my own birds of prey etc. Birds in general tbh, surround me with the birds.
Pass the test then try to find a sponsor. There are online resources for studying and to help you search for a sponsor, but you'll have to work to find a willing sponsor. It's a big commitment on both sides.

I think eels deserves a fat spot on this list. My work had one and he purposefully threw himself out of his cage to bite people when they picked him up. I have 3 scars from that bitch, and HIS NAME WAS MONTY THE MORON iconic, I know.

I wouldn’t recommend ferrets as pets, as much as I love them with all of my heart. They are just A LOT of work & require a lot of maintenance and attention. My boy was only a year old when I found out he had 8 bladder stones & the surgery cost $2,800 CAD... so the fact that ferrets are recommended by pet stores to families w little kids makes no sense to me. The average household can simply not afford those types of vet bills. They are beautiful companions but honestly I’d call them a hobby pet

My aunt has a pet alligator it's cool watching him get fed. (They have a very big child and animal proof enclosure for it and it can be a hand full in case anyone was wondering. My aunt also doesn't suggest getting one since they can be dangerous and alot of work sometimes).
For those interested in crocodilians an alternative to a crocodile or alligator is a Cuviers Dwarf Caimen, they don't get overly large but they do need a somewhat decent sized enclosure, nothing compared to the others though and they are really cool. Of course do like years of research before making such a big commitment though.

I don’t think I would ever own a boyfriend. They have complicated diets and require lots of expensive enrichment. They are also very high maintenance, and have also been known to the on their owners:)

I was a ferret owner and they are a lot of fun, and adorable. But their poop is huge, they poop, they are smelly, and they are pretty tame when it comes to destruction, like never. But once I screamed cause I woke up and my ferret was crawling onto my bed, they are super energetic. It’s like owning elastigirl, and need a pretty long cage. I had 2! I had to sell them.. :( just too much work.
Sunny Osorio they’re not smelly unless they’re not descented usually and if yours weren’t that means you didn’t neuter them aswell :(. But yes, they’re amazing little handfuls, and they don’t destruct but OML their stash piles ha!!!
Lennon Ryea I have had plenty - when descented they’re not smelly. If you put your nose in their fur and take a huge sniff then there is a slight musky smell, but as for stinking up the house or cage no.
Ferrets were my first pets! I had three, but one passed away a couple weeks ago, so I have two. But I love them! Their stink can be controlled and they bond to you so well! They're amazing! Maybe in the future you could try when you have less animals 😊
I know exactly what you mean about ferrets. I have always wanted one for as long as I can remember. Then a couple years ago I moved to a state where ferrets are legal to own and was so excited and started doing research and making plans to get one. Then I watched my brother's ferret for 2 weeks and then another week a while later (both times, I had it living in my house) and it completely 100% changed my mind about ever owning one. I still love them and love going to my brother's house to play with his ferrets (he now has two) and trim their nails.

I usually feed them with tongs to make sure they are both eating! But if you just throw crickets in there and you see them hunting for them then that should be fine

My top two most wanted pets are a ball python (like you're adorable Monty) and a few ferrets, ironically. I've experienced a bit of their energy and would definitely need to make sure I can budget some time to keeping them moving and happy, and I would never have just one since they're very social animals.

Monty is so adorable! And I understand not owning ferrets. I love mine, but honestly I couldn't own some mainstream animals like mice and hamsters again. I love them, but their lifespans and temperament don't match mine. And i love rabbits too, but again I don't share their temperament. I stick with my rats, ferrets, and guinea pigs . . . and lizards . . . and horses . . . yeah xD

I had a rough green snake for about 2 weeks before he suffered and died. The issue is that he starved himself, something that his species is notorious for. Proper habitat, temp, humidity, and diet, and I researched his species extensively prior to purchase. I wasn't surprised when it had happened based on what I had read, but I was devastated. Certain animals belonging to certain families may make excellent animals for a captive life, but certain animals also don't adapt well. Rough and smooth green snakes are perfect examples. They aren't aggressive and have no teeth, eat insects, and are pretty small snakes at roughly 2 feet max. Seems like a great snake to keep, but they are all wild-caught, stress extremely easily, and are well-known for their habit of starving themselves to death. They can't go 6 months without food like some species. Compared to a ball python who aren't aggressive, eat rodents, and are well known to do well in captivity.
Not all animals should be kept in captivity just because they can be, or because their close relatives can be.

As cool as they are, I would never get a reticulated python. I'd be afraid that I'm never providing enough space for it unless I buy a house and give the guest bedroom to this snake. Not to mention, I'd have to feed this thing like... massive rats, or dead rabbits or something, and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with that. Also, I live alone sooooooo... yeah, in case you didn't know, massive constrictors + handling them by yourself = you could die pretty easily if that snake is hungry or feels threatened. And the teeth? Nope, nope, I'm sticking with my leopard gecko thank you. She's cute, when she accidentally bites me it doesn't hurt, and she looks very happy in a nice little 36x18x12 enclosure, and I get to feed her easily manageable crickets, dubia roaches, and occasionally, worms of varying kinds.
My sister works at Busch gardens in Virginia. They have wolves and wolf trainers. A couple years ago, a family found a puppy and they raised it and trained it like a dog and within a couple of months it kept growing and they found out it was a wolf. After that, they gave the wolf to Busch gardens and now it’s one of the wolves they have there and it has a pack

They’re EXACTLY like puppies. If people come in wanting a puppy but say they’re not home too much I suggest ferrets. Oh and they have to run at least an hour each DAY, and even if the room is ferret proof, they steal EVERYTHING. they have hoarding piles where they stash their finds. I found a pile, 9 shoes, 20 socks, keys, remotes, hair bands, everything. They need so much socialization and play. I’m really hoping you’re just uneducated and just saying that and haven’t owned any, because if you do own some and are saying that you obviously don’t care for them the way they need and let them run :((.
