  • I love cutting rocks, but sometimes, theres highs and others theres lows. We're cutting (self collected), rocks I was too scared to cut and rocks that are too big for my tile saw. Whats inside is up to nature and already set in stone.

Jesse, I want to point out what seems obvious to me, and I'm sure others will agree. The reason so many of us watch your content isn't just because of the cool rocks you find. It's because you have a wonderful personality that shines through and a kind and tender heart. You take us on adventures that most of us could never experience ourselves. We get to be excited with you when you find beautiful rocks filled with mystery. And your reactions are great! We don't expect every rock to be as beautiful on the inside as the outside, but we are hoping for your sake it will be. We're happy for you when it is, and sad for you when it isn't. We do not blame you when a cut is wrong or a rock is a dud. What I'm trying to say is, just relax and be you. That's what keeps us coming back. I hope this encourages you. Great video, as always. God loves you!

Thank you for this video. Long time coming but well worth it. As a fellow rockhound and woodworker we need to remember that nature is an artist and sometimes what we see as a dud, to someone else it is a priceless gem. Enjoy what you are doing and sharing with all of us. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Jesse, I don't think you realize how much we enjoy you as a person. The rocks are amazing and just an extra on the video. I love the way you used to polish your rocks with personality, your personality...they turned from beautiful rocks into beautiful art! I truly believe you could just talk about what you are doing and what you plan to do and people would love the video just the same. You seem like an amazing person and you need to set him free ...

Had to watch it as soon as I was notified. Like that guy on the bench said, rocks are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get, 😂😂, isn’t that what he said. Those pieces that I cut were exactly that, not what was expected but some great surprises and unpredictable results. I have to admit that sometimes the cutting is half the fun.
Seriously enjoyed the video with some of those pieces you showed with Ian & Locky just stunning. From beginning to end just enjoyed the video & your commentary. Keep safe & Keep Rockin.

@@Rookie_Rockounding Jess, I do not know why you were worried about the video, it was really good, the fact that you’re out there making the videos and providing commentary is enough for all those that follow you, I don’t think many care whether the intro, middle or ending is perfect, life’s not perfect. Your videos are always worth watching. Ok enough pissin in your pocket. 😂😂. Happy to help cutting those pieces.
PS. Experimenting with a little thing that’s been on my mind, if I’m correct, I will be able to cut some serious rocks. 🤞

Im really late to the video and i doubt seriously, that you will see or read this comment, but man Jesse, you really are a gem in this field of rocks! Your attitude, your contemplation, your ability to adapt and learn, and boince back from adverse situations. And none of those things are just rock related. Its who you are. Great video bud. I haven’t been into rockhounding and lapidary for long. What I have learned in this past year is something that applies in everything. Everyone is an individual even when they share interests. What I see in or about a rock isn’t going to be the same for everyone. For example I have been finding a lot of fossil death plates lately and I think they’re cool but there’s many people that like them more than me so I have been giving them to them. Gave some to Karen (ozonefinearts) and joined her on her last live. You do what makes you happy and enjoy the rocks that you love and are inspired by.

Oh man that’s so rad JnV! Dude death plates are super cool! But I get what you mean. It’s funny how everyone is drawn to different rocks and minerals and fossils for a whole bunch of different reasons hey. I love that about rockhounds and rocks. It’s all about what picks your curiosity and makes your brain excited right 😊🙏

You are spot on about being filled with wonder. Some I just like to hold and ponder. Maybe I will cut it. Maybe I won't. The rock will ultimately call to you and tell you where to cut it. We just have to live with our choices. Either way, we get to see something we never would have seen until we cut them open. Its always fun to hear which rocks people like after i cut or polish them. Everyone likes and sees different things. Hahaha, and then there are those that everyone agrees is a stunner! Like that one you found three years ago and decided to cut 😁 There were a couple agates I saw thar you guys cut that were perfect with no cracks or imperfections. Lucky finds. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the cuts. Fantastic video, Jesse. 🤘😁

I just recently started watching videos on cutting rocks as I am wanting to start trying. I collect Ancient Artifacts (Native American) and I find all kinds of really pretty interesting rocks. Over the years my eye is trained now to see what the shape is, a lot of tools and weapons that were used were carved out with an animal or human face, if you turn it multiple ways you will see multiple things. I understand how you were feeling disappointed, but if you look at how old this stuff is and how it was made, there is some real art and talent! Nature is beautiful and gives us beautiful things and we tend to forget that and take it for granted. Also, I’m sure some of the rocks that you have found and opened have just been INCREDIBLE and other rocks are hard to beat it! I know I have found some amazing artifacts and every time I go looking I’m trying to find something just as amazing or better!
I have seen some of your rocks do look like artifacts, just something you might want to try looking at the shape of the rock first. Once you start seeing the faces, it’s hard not too! When you opened some of these rocks I see things inside them, which I know are not man made, but too me makes the rock even cooler. The one at 2:35 you hold up to me looks like something they would have made, it has the teeth, nose and eye at the top, would have loved to see what it looked like before!! I’m not an expert just someone who collects rocks! Lol! If you are interested just look up PORTABLE ROCK ART OR EFFIGIES.

Thanks Rookie - I have had rocks sitting in various spaces in the garden, on my desk, under my desk and part of it is the fear that it won't be as good as I think - or that I will get the cut wrong and plough thru the "pretty bit" but I am not trying to make a living from rocks I am just genuinely happy to wander beaches and rivers picking them up and if I find something pretty then I am happy - I don't know when I got nervous to cut but you have reinvigorated my creativity - good job!!!

I wanted to share my thougths with you. First I really liked your commentary. I feel exactly the same way when it comes to rocks, findingt them and when I cut them. They are so interested and have a beauty that only Nature can design. Second, you may cut a rock and think it's a dud, but someone else might look at that same rock, will look at it and think," cool pattern, I could do this or this with a rock like that!" So just because you may be disappointed that it didn't match your expectations, other people may still appreciate the beauty inside. If you have one of those "duds" you could ask the viewers what they would do with it. Anyways, those are my thoughts. I really did enjoy this video.

Jasper and agate often show variegated patterns inside when cut, especially along cracks and lines (color or texture transition areas). However, it would be good to cut through sections where there are cracks or line formations because these sections may have been remineralized when the rock suffered cracks during its journey to the site where it was picked up.

Even if it’s a bit of a dud on the inside, you get to have the first glance in that rock’s billion year history…as if it were waiting just for you. That’s pretty damn cool in and of itself.

Oh man I have to say the best way is to find a forum online and ask for local fossicking places. Not knowing where to look makes exploring, and then finding cool rocks, even more awesome! From then on it’s all just exploring more places and trying to figure out what you’re finding 😊

Bob, what area are you from. There are quite a few fossicking groups on Facebook. There is plenty of info in these groups.

Look, I don't think you get how amazing those rocks are that you thought were not great for those of us who don't really have access to anything like that. Where I live it is nothing but cornfields for as far as the eye can see, limestone, and granite. I would have to do some serious traveling to come anywhere near agate or jasper. I love your videos and truly appreciate all you share with us.

Im new to rockhounding and I have a nice big slab of petrified wood, and I mean a slab! Prob weighs close to 10kg. Where would someone like me get this cut if I have no equipment of my own?

    • @Rookie_Rockounding
      @Rookie_Rockounding  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Nicole, thank you 😊
So I’d say if you contact your local lapidary club and ask if it’s possible to get it cut, they most of the time will be pretty enthusiastic to help out. Just tell them you’re new to the hobby. 😉
It costs a certain dollar amount per size of the cut but you’ll get the best cut possible

You could make light boxes for those slabs polished and set it up to display it as a polished slab during the day and a light show at night. You could sell those for $250 - $350 easy online.

I am an old rock enthusiast, coming back to it now, as I have a new lease on life after a recent hospital excursion. I’m looking for any tips as a new lapidary hobbyist. I am in the process of purchasing a small trim saw as I do have some creative ideas and other rocks that I can find around my area. Is there decent and much cheaper way to make cabs other than to buy a very expensive cab machine? I already have a Tumbler And I will be purchasing a flex shaft, multitool as well. Just curious as to if this may be enough as a start for polishing, cutting and shaping. Any, and all help would greatly be appreciated friends. Thank you all :)

    • @Rookie_Rockounding

There’s a bit of a chance to cut your nails on the blade but not really. The blade is made of metal and tiny chunks of diamonds which grind away at the stone instead of “cutting” so when your skin touches the blade it doesn’t hurt. Sometimes I rest a finger on the blade to get a steady cut 😬😬😬

I think this is the first time I’m commenting on one of your videos, but I have been watching from the sidelines for years. I watch and rewatch videos, or just have my favorites on in the background while I’m studying or painting….
You are my FAVORITE rockhound, and this is my FAVORITE little corner of the Internet.
I legitimately get SO excited to see you post.
After I saw on IG today that you had uploaded this cutting video, I structured my entire evening around watching it.
Part of what makes rockhounding so fun is that you NEVER know what you’re going to get out of it! Truthfully, I want to see all the cuts-the good, the great, and the not-so-great! It’s all part of it and I just love being there for the ride.
I know that editing is a challenge and the pressure of expectations is a a bigger one. I’m so grateful that we still get to experience moments like these with you.
    Thank you, for everything.
    You are awesome.
