Electric boogaloos created boogaloo and poping in late 60s ~early 70s, in california. They were inspired by pantomime of french mime artist, Marcel Marceau. Poping is basically miming to music. If you look at Jeffrys routine here, you can see mime moves like 'walking into the wind' with umbrella, that move with tea cup, his hand gestures etc. The glide, back slide is also a poping move thats inspired from pantomime.
It's basically an evolution of waking into the wind. People reference bill bailey, but in my opinion, he had no illusion going. he was just literally sliding backwards. but thats not moon walk. The illusion of mime makes the moon walk work.
Jeffry was a great dancer, but he his time was after electric boogaloos, and he copied/learnt their dance, that had spread into the streets, in 70s. Same as boogaloo shrimp aka turbo, his time was even later in the early 80s. He said he was 14 years old when he met Mj, so he was 80s kid, not 70s.
    th-cam.com/video/rb4vUxhow_s/w-d-xo.html
At 0:41 jeffry give credit of the dance to Electric Boogaloos. In 1979, the host ask him what is the dance called, and he replies that " its called 'Boogaloo' which was originated by a group called 'Electric Boogaloos' from long beach. Its also called poping. Boogaloo poping." So its on tape, he is giving them their just dues.
Apparently both jeffry and turbo taught MJ gliding and poping, as well as many other dancers.
If you search on youtube, MJ and Marcel Marceau, there is a video of them meeting on a stage, and of cause its not accidental, mj was paying homage to the lineage of poping dance.

Everyone takes moves off everyone else. So stop saying MJ stole moves. But Jeffrey daniels moves could still be dropped today in a club and would still draw a crowd.

@nemoran Latoya said that MJ asked Jeffrey Daniel to teach him the "backslide". Not only called Jeffrey, also called Boogaloo Shrimp. They teach him the dancing style and help him to improve it. Of course Michael is brillant and talent, could performe the dancing style amazingly. Unfourtunately Michael never give them credits. Another thing is that nobody said Jeffrey Daniel invented the wrong called "moonwalk" (real name: "backslide", moonwalk is another move, but Michael wrongly called it "moonwalk") actually nobody knows who invented it. A Michael Jackson's fan should know this. What kind of fan are you?

Jeffrey Daniels and Michael Jackson, dance styles are totally different, like fire & water. When Jeffrey dances he's very smooth, classy, cool, graceful and has good body extension. When he moonwalks or backslides it looks as if he's walking on air, with little to no effort at all. He gives the impression of making, you think you can actually, do this move, with grace & ease like him. Think again. Michael on the other hand, dances with power, speed, stamina & dominance. He gives the illusion, of making you feel, like you can dance with energy, power, speed & passion, and move like, him. Not so! Both are excellent, as dancers & performers, also show great mastery in their style of dance. I would say, both become one with the dance, totally captivating their audience. In the spotlight, Michael has been, overwhelming, while Jeffrey has been underrated. I would also, say Jeffrey brings a certain polished, hypnotic, mystique to his dancing persona. Michael brings an optimistic, allure, & awe to his, dancing persona. Even though, I feel like I've grown-up, with Michael and he's inspired me to want to dance, every since I was 7, Jeffrey inspired me also, to dance at 13, pop-lockin. In my opinion Jeffrey is the better dancer. Both are Mega-Glorius! R.I.P., M.J. Dance on J.D.!!!

For those of you that don't know Jeffrey Daniels taught MJ the moonwalk and the glide. Yes MJ was poplocking but his style was different in 1975-1977 and he learned the moonwalk and the glide in early 1982. MJ perfected the dance and it became his signature after the 1983 broadcast of Motown 25 when he did Billie Jean. MJ also had other influences that he credits. Fred Astaire, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, The Nicholas Brothes, Jackie Wilson, and of course James Brown.

Look up their performances from 1975 and the 1979 moonwalking routine it's on here.

I NEVER heard Michael say he invented the moonwalk on his own. He always said he was inspired by others but the thing about Michael is he never copied other people’s moves verbatim. Jeffrey Daniel of the soul music group Shalamar co-choreographed the "Smooth Criminal" video with Jackson and Vincent Paterson, who was a back-up dancer in "Beat It" and "Thriller". It was directed by special effects coordinator Colin Chilvers. The dance sequence of the video in the 1930s style lounge (and Michael's white suit and fedora) pays tribute to the Fred Astaire musical comedy film The Band Wagon.

He has very similar body type to Michael Jackson. They are both huge legends. Jeffrey Daniels showed the way and Michael Jackson got inspired and upgraded everything to the next level. This network of co-creation goes on and on. Today you can see SKITZO who has perfected gliding(sliding) with many other dancers like iGlide, Storyboard P and Marquese Scott etc. I am also on my way to become my greatest version. You can see my journey on my channel.

JD lean'rt the moonwalk way but in the mid 70's MJ lean'rt it round late 82 to 83,but MJ Mastered it better than anyone.Remember JD taught or MJ some dance moves on the Bad video, and MJ as always mastered that better than JD.
