I saw JD perform live in maidstone on saturday and was lucky enough to speak to him afterwards. He told me that he influenced michael and helped choreograph a few of his videos. Michael was also an influence on him too so they both learnt from each other and incorporated the moves into the unique styles they have today. I agree that they should both be respected for the talented artists they are!
WHAT A ERA PEOPLE!!!!! LOVE.. DANCING.. PEOPLE COMMUNICATING ...NEVER EVER AGAIN....thanks to all the SONG MENS SONG WOMEN for the Beautiful voices of these TIMES.👏🌹
I've been a huge mj fan for 29 years but you cannot deny Jeffrey's Influence on him. From his style of dancing to his military outfits.Don't know why so-called hard-core fans don't realize this.MJ still was a genius.People mention mj's popping and lockin' on the variety show, but those routines were supposed to be spoofs on the real dance troupe called "The Lockers."Just look up their videos on youtube. Look up their performances from 1975 and the 1979 moonwalking routine it's on here.
All the music from that time brings back sooo many memories. Shalimar, The Whispers, Lakeside, Slave etc I saw them a couple times in LC. La back in early 80's !!!!! Long for those days and music
@nemoran Latoya said that MJ asked Jeffrey Daniel to teach him the "backslide". Not only called Jeffrey, also called Boogaloo Shrimp. They teach him the dancing style and help him to improve it. Of course Michael is brillant and talent, could performe the dancing style amazingly. Unfourtunately Michael never give them credits. Another thing is that nobody said Jeffrey Daniel invented the wrong called "moonwalk" (real name: "backslide", moonwalk is another move, but Michael wrongly called it "moonwalk") actually nobody knows who invented it. A Michael Jackson's fan should know this. What kind of fan are you?
Jeffrey Daniels and Michael Jackson, dance styles are totally different, like fire & water. When Jeffrey dances he's very smooth, classy, cool, graceful and has good body extension. When he moonwalks or backslides it looks as if he's walking on air, with little to no effort at all. He gives the impression of making, you think you can actually, do this move, with grace & ease like him. Think again. Michael on the other hand, dances with power, speed, stamina & dominance. He gives the illusion, of making you feel, like you can dance with energy, power, speed & passion, and move like, him. Not so! Both are excellent, as dancers & performers, also show great mastery in their style of dance. I would say, both become one with the dance, totally captivating their audience. In the spotlight, Michael has been, overwhelming, while Jeffrey has been underrated. I would also, say Jeffrey brings a certain polished, hypnotic, mystique to his dancing persona. Michael brings an optimistic, allure, & awe to his, dancing persona. Even though, I feel like I've grown-up, with Michael and he's inspired me to want to dance, every since I was 7, Jeffrey inspired me also, to dance at 13, pop-lockin. In my opinion Jeffrey is the better dancer. Both are Mega-Glorius! R.I.P., M.J. Dance on J.D.!!!
man, take it down a notch. Jeffrey Daniel was a fantastic dancer in the 1970's and became a well know choreographer BECAUSE of the initial work he did with Michael Jackson preparing him for the Motown 25 performance. nuff said. As a matter of fact, Jody Watley was also a fantastic dancer and that is how they remained in Shalamar..
First of all, stop arguing about MJ and JD, they were both great! Jeffery choreographed in many of MJ's videos, including Bad, Smooth Criminal, and Ghosts! Jeffery taught MJ these moves, Michael just perfected them and improved them, alot of dancers do that!! Michael even got half of his moves from James Brown and Jackie Wilson, it's called influence, people! -_-
We have to thank this man so much because he's the one who taught are Michael how to moonwalk and if Michael hadn't done that move the world would never be the same
MAN Jeffery daniels is by far the greatest dancer of the 70s,80s, 90s and all the other centuries to come. No One can top jeffery. ohh! and shalamar,s song are AWSOME!!!!!!
Funny how people forget the music video to Dancing Machine by the Jackson 5. JD might have been influence by Michael then, and decided to do something with it. Dancing Machine came out in the 70s by the way :)
Jeffrey Daniel of the soul music group Shalamar co-choreographed the "Smooth Criminal" video with Jackson and Vincent Paterson, who was a back-up dancer in "Beat It" and "Thriller". It was directed by special effects coordinator Colin Chilvers. The dance sequence of the video in the 1930s style lounge (and Michael's white suit and fedora) pays tribute to the Fred Astaire musical comedy film The Band Wagon.
@TheGovenor88 "Why do people compare Michael to Jeffrey Daniel? Michael never admitted to inventing any of his moves, he was obv inspired by many dancers but the different is Michael put that finesse in his dancing, he danced inside the music......." True ...and Michael WAS doing all the robot moves and super spins way back in the 70's, too. I remember and love this group though :>)
.....scary but true....over three decades and these same moves are still being performed by group of young kids on NYCity subway platforms and cars....no way they knew Jeffrey Daniels....or ever seen him perform......pure genius-ism...
Magistral lesson. Anywhere you look at, in all directions left to right, down to up, close to infinite, Shalamar was the ultimate band of early eighties
For those of you that don't know Jeffrey Daniels taught MJ the moonwalk and the glide. Yes MJ was poplocking but his style was different in 1975-1977 and he learned the moonwalk and the glide in early 1982. MJ perfected the dance and it became his signature after the 1983 broadcast of Motown 25 when he did Billie Jean. MJ also had other influences that he credits. Fred Astaire, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, The Nicholas Brothes, Jackie Wilson, and of course James Brown.
Respect to #MichaelJackson he did say he didn't invent the moonwalk...Jeffrey Daniels taught him many moves but MJ perfected them to such smoothness both are greats 👊🏿✊🏿
Now i see where and who Ginuwine got his umbrella dance move from in his music video (So Anxious) from. It was from this talented dude...Jeffery Daniels.
@SnotRockets55 I agree. Now don't get me wrong Mr. Daniel is a great dancer/choreographer but like you said "to imply that MJ couldn't dance in general before that is...completely ignorant". I NEVER heard Michael say he invented the moonwalk on his own. He always said he was inspired by others but the thing about Michael is he never copied other people’s moves verbatim. He always took the essence of the moves & made them his own. Plus he had a stage presence & charisma that couldn't be matched.
Did anyone else also notice him doing the 'Smooth Criminal' rotating slide around 1:15-1:27 several years before Michael did it? Fair play to Jeffrey Daniel for not complaining at a bigger star nicking his moves. Thumbs up if MJ brought you here.
@@samsunggs6998 Michael has his own style to dance and Jeffrey too. Both are talent. I don't agree with you Jeffrey was amazing doing the backslide.😍 At first didn't liked how MJ did it, but then he improve the move. 😍
He is FANTASTIC...!!! He never got the props he deserves...!!!
He was one of the first to do this kind of dancing and of course, he taught Michael Jackson the backslide/moonwalk
Exactly
That's Ok. TH-cam bring everything to light. Great Performance Jeffrey! STILL got the moves!👣👏🎩
@@vijaybhuchar4703 exactly!!!!
He didn’t in the past, but he’s still here & he’s definitely gotten the PROPS NOW!!!! Respect ✊🏽 Mr. Daniel!!!!
This guy has talent spilling out of his eyes honestly, such a gifted and amazing dancer. Captivating
Michael would have been proud.
@@MrMetro-mt5qvummm...He is the one that taught MJ the Moonwalk.

Yeah he is the gave Michael the moonwalk...... They all got together from Soul train.
The man who taught the world how to dance….LEGEND 🙌🏾
there is nothing more to say ...
among all others, Jeffrey Daniel is the best dancer !
Its not just what he does, its how well he does it! He is so under-appreciated.

If not the best, then he was the greatest dancer of those days..
THEY NEED TO DO A MOVIE ON HIM
" A NIGHT TO REMEMBER," ON HOW HE DANCED HIS WAY TO THE TOP.
LIKE THE MOVIE STAYING ALIVE, JOHN TRAVOLTA . WORD!
You're absolutely right..he's amazing.
Naa! A movie will cheapen it.
