    I admit, I used to be scared of this breed until a friend got one. That dog is the biggest lovebug I’ve ever met. Anytime I sit on the couch, he hops up to sit on me. Not on the cushions, ME. He sits and goes to sleep, and cries when it’s time for me to go home. I love you, Jax!

      I really should. It’s heartbreaking to hear him so sad when I leave. He’s smart, and he knows that when I put on my shoes, I’m about to go. As soon as I put on the shoes, he cries.
      To make it up to him, he hangs with me when my friend travels for work. He’s a good boy!

      Reminds me of the joke Richard Pryor said about Dobermans. When she said they'll let a burglar in and show them where all the good stuff was but as soon as they grabbed the door handle, the Doberman would be like" you can't leave, I want to play." And you would find the burglar in the same spot when you got home sounding like the fly going "help me", "please help me"

    I love that their owners kept the natural ears. I had one growing up and his name was Wolfgang called him wolfie for short. He was a gentle giant, even the neighborhood kids would ask if he could come out and play. Funny story: we went out of town for the weekend and my parents had the neighbors watch the house and walk the dogs. The very first day our neighbor calls to tell us that he let her walk him, feed him but he wasn't allowing her to leave. He wasn't barking (they don't really do that) or growling but he just laid in front of the door to block her 🤣🤣. Needless to say we had to have my uncle drive over so he would let her out of the house.

      @OGXenos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1460

      @@buckturgidson1448 At least chopped tails can be legitimate reasons. Some dogs lose them to "happy tail", where they wag so hard it breaks their bones and skin on wall corners and nearby sharp objects. Some farm owners dock tails to avoid them getting caught in machines. My own dog hurt his tail in a car door accident, and then a name brand store vet messed up the surgery, resulting in us having to amputate pretty much the entire tail. What's sad about it is that he's a mutt mix with some clear pit in him, so now people discriminate against him even harder when we go on walks because of his tail. It hurts my soul when my dog just wants to play and say hi but karens walking their purse dogs pick them up in fear and hold them away.

      @@OGXenos That drives me nuts. I've had pitties and pittie mixes my whole life and none have ever been human or dog aggressive but I've found myself on many occasions holding my dog in my arms while one of those little rat dogs was trying to attack my dog while the owner was laughing or making excuses. Now my current dog never goes out with out a GoPRo. For some reason the Karens all seem to have a very different attitude about their little dogs charging straight at my girl now.
      On chopped tails and docked ears, They should be banned for cosmetic reasons. Nothing can be done about actual amputations obviously but I just saw a cane corso puppy with docked ears and no tail. It was just so cruel. I had to hold back from shouting at the owner.

    I was too young to remember him but my dad rescued a special needs doberman. Dobermans have a tendency to self train. They figure out what the people they love like and actively seek to do those things.The dog saw my dad prevent my brother, a toddler at the time, from going into the street *one time* and stopped him from doing so afterwards.. The dog actively watched over my brother while he played like a canine babysitter. That earned him instant favor in my dads eyes and my dad, vary much a cat person always said that if he ever got another dog, it'd be a doberman.

      Dobermans are fabulous child-sitters. Lived on a property that extended for many miles as a child, my parents trusted this one Doberman implicitly to accompany me on my outside explorations where I would walk for miles without incident, he would always be within a five metre proximity without being distracted by wildlife. He delivered me back without incident always by curfew. He was my best friend for ten years then passed away from cancer. Incredible breed, still blows me away now how phenomenal he was.

      I haven't noticed any particular difficulties with these two even compared to the four Boxers I raised sense puppies. Maybe I got lucky.
      Dogs in general do need a good leadership but I just don't think Doberman's need extra amounts of it. They actually learn pretty quickly when commands are clear.

      Yes but dobies do tend to suffer from ear infections (hence needing ears professionally cleaned) and upstanding ears reduce this.

    • @sysi8774
      @sysi8774 3 ปีที่แล้ว +106

      @@emilyelizabethbuchanan998 my vet has told me this is a myth. Some breeds are more prone to various skin-, ear- and other infections due to their narrowed gene pool ( thanks to inbreeding, dobermann specifically has quite poor genetic variety, they are all closely related ).
      Some breeds especially prone to ear infections include French Bulldog, German Shepherd and White Swiss shepherd -all dogs with upright ears.
      And if cropping really reduced this risk, surely cockerspaniel and Basset hound would get their ears cropped to prevent ear infections? ...They don't, because cropping and docking in show breeds is purely cosmetic.

    • @jilli_bea
      @jilli_bea 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@sysi8774 Docking of tails is not purely cosmetic. Some breeds tend to have thinner tails that tend to whack against hard things often, and tail breakage may lead to amputation which is often more traumatic and painful for the dog. If you can save them from that possible pain by a quick and painless docking as puppies then I say it's worth it.

    My Rosie (Doberman) is a gentle little flower. She is protective of the house and the yard but she will nuzzle you and cuddle you when you come in, even if you are a stranger to her. When she sees that I am not at all threatened through my movements, she calms down. However, she about threw a tantrum on my brother when we were just goofing around.
    They are extremely Loyal and awesome dogs! I have known 2 Dobermans in my life and both of them were angels. Very good with kids and accepting of new babies in their life. It all comes down to how well you socialize them, just like any other dog.
    One of my favorite breeds of dog and they will remain in the hallmarks of my heart for the rest of my life.
