    I cannot thank you enough for the info on fixing the drag! I am a newish knitter and this drag had caused me to loath patterns with knits and purls. I am working a cable blanket and have tried everything to get that first purl tighter to no avail. This has worked like a charm!

    What an awesome tip on switching to purl stitches. Wish I'd known that years ago! I've spent years trying to figure out why my tension was off and how to fix it. Thank you thank you!

    Thanks for the great video! Does that tugging after the first purl stitch work to eliminate the looseness around cables, too?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Tracy Hiatt Grice - yes, that is a really good example of when this technique is helpful. You'll often see loose stitches on the left side of a cable (where the cable stitches are knit, and flanked by purl stitches). A little tug to eliminate the "drag" between the last K and the first P makes a huge difference.

  • @sandilum
    @sandilum 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Staci, thanks for this pattern, can you explain the difference between working this in the round versus straight needles?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I give instructions for that on my website: verypink.com/2015/11/11/fancy-stitch-combo-shadow-chevron-dishcloth/
      Or are you asking in general the difference between knitting flat and in-the-round?

    • @sandilum
      @sandilum 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@verypinkknits Yes I notice there is a difference with the instructions between knitting flat and round for example: on the straight Row 1 is K1, *P7, K1*, whereas in the round 1st & 2 rounds is *K1, P7* no K1, also is there no border of K5 at the beginning of the row, and K5 at the end of the row when you knit in the round? sorry I must not be getting something I should.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sandilum - "knitting flat" means to make a flat piece, like a dishcloth or blanket. Knitting "in the round" means to knit in a tube, so there is no border.

    • @sandilum
      @sandilum 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question about the Knitters pride. I have the Tunisian hook set. If I wanted to instead of making circular needles, (which I have so much trouble with lol.) The hooks come with a stopper disk.. could I just use that to extend the knitting needles? Instead of a super long needle for a project like an king size blanket?

    I'm a continental knitter, so would the tension problem be the same for me as for you in this video?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tension isn't a problem for me, but I show how to get good tension between knits and purls in this video. Regardless of how you knit, you're always going to have a "drag" of yarn between Ks and Ps that should be tightened up.

    I tried this pattern but I think I knit too tight, or maybe I was using the wrong needle size, because it didn't work up flat... It was very wobbly. I didn't do it from this video, just commenting on my own experience. I like the pattern, so I hope I can find the right yarn and needle combo

    In IC sets such as Knitter's Pride that come in US 4 - 11, how can you obtain the smaller/larger sizes?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +vallerie1973 - yes, interchangeable sets only go down to a certain size, since they can't go any smaller than the "join" from the cord to the needle. For smaller needle sizes, we just have to use fixed needles - meaning, buying an individual pair of 24" circulars size 2, etc.

  • @Huntress0203
    @Huntress0203 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    have you tried this in 2 colors.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be a fair isle pattern in two colors - the unique thing about this pattern is that the chevron is done in different stitches, in one color.

  • @keepingourhome7271

    do you find the acrylic needle create any drag, or does the yarn glide over them effortlessly?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Keepingourhome - acrylic needles have a little more grip than other materials, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Stitches still glide easily, but stitches are less likely to accidentally slip off the ends of the needle with acrylic. Beginning knitters and naturally loose knitters often have a problem with daredevil stitches jumping off, and acrylic needles can help with that.
