  • Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel and the eighth video in the Bolt Action Basics series. In this video, we are going to be looking at movement and how you go about moving infantry sections and vehicles in games of Bolt action.
The movement mechanics in Bolt Action are simple yet very intuitive and allows you to move your infantry and vehicles around the battlefield. In this video, we will look at the different ways that movement is made using the order system.
As with the rest of the Bolt Action Basics series, the videos are intended to be a very basic overview rather than a detailed analysis. I would always recommend picking up a copy of the main Bolt Action rulebook as this will expand on the areas of the game covered by this video and the rest of the Bolt Action basics series.

If you are new to Bolt Action or you are thinking about taking the plunge and starting to play the game, I hope that you will find this video series of videos helpful or interesting.
They are intended to be a very brief outline of the basic aspects of the game that will help you at the beginning of your Bolt Action journey.

Another excellent guide. Like how actually moving your stuff about is one of the later ones though! 😂

Cheers Josh! I really have no idea why it took me eight videos to get around to one of the most important mechanics in the entire game 😂

Cheers Cal, much appreciated! I have experience/background in providing training and creating training modules so it's been quite nice transferring these skills to the world of toy soldiers 😊

Cheers Chris, glad you found it useful! I probably should have included this video somewhere near the start of the series but somehow I never got round to doing it until recently 😀

Cheers Lee! Hopefully the series will help people that have just started playing or who are looking to see if it's a game that they would like to play. It's taken a while to get to making a video about movement though 😀

Nice learning video, i think halftracks take so much points, that a blitz truck is better worth it.

Thanks Lucian! Yeah there is definitely a debate about which are the best transports to use as the points are a bit high for half tracks. Wheeled vehicles are a great option. But then there is what unit quality to take. I've seen many people take veteran transports if they are out flanking just to ensure that they actually pass the test to arrive on the battlefield 😊

Cheers Allan! They've really been great fun to work on but it's also helped me as it's been a sort of rules refresh. With the current situation, not a lot of Bolt Action has been played here so it's been good to revisit the rules 😊

Always helpful to hear these rules broken down. I’m confused about how artillery moves. I wanted to add a pak 40 to my list, but it sounds like they need to be towed. I guess you can’t just deploy a heavy artillery piece at the beginning of the game and leave it there?

Cheers Matt! Yeah the movement of artillery is a tricky one. Essentially if it's a light/medium piece it can be moved by its crew with a run order but this is reduced to a movement of six inches. As the PAK40 is classed as heavy it requires a tow to enter the battlefield. The towing vehicle enters the battlefield towing the artillery piece. To dismount, it must be issued a run order of six inches. It is then fully deployed. I would imagine the only time you wouldn't need to do this would be in a scenario where one side sets up its forces before the game begins 😊
