Feminist Thought and Environmental Defense in Latin America
The last two decades have brought a remarkable upsurge of feminist thought and action in Latin America that has positioned Latin American feminisms as a political force in environmental defense. As a result of the articulation between feminisms and ecologisms, strong critiques and alternatives to environmental devastation and dispossession have emerged. Focusing on academic work on three salient, interconnected themes-i.e. the critique of hegemonic productions of nature, care of the body-territory (cuerpo-territorio), and the defense of the commons, this chapter highlights feminist contributions to better understanding current environmental crises and mapping out present and future alternative paths.
