It's fun to see the difference between those who play 0 1st then Kiwami (like Bae)
and those who play Kiwami 1st then 0 (like Okayu)
reacting to how different Majima is from their 1st impression of him
Personally, I prefer when people go from Kiwami to 0. Mostly because
1) they easily become attached to 0 Majima, who is NOT in the great majority of the series, because It Is the first exposure to Majima, and becomes imprinted, creating a lot of dissonance. There were a lot of people who disliked Kiwami Majima because he was so different compared to his zero self
2) I personally don't think it "spoils" his story or ruins the experience, It just makes you wonder "how did he become like in Kiwami" rather than "I wonder what happens next". I think this is way more acceptable rather than risking alienating his entire character. I've seen people play Kiwami 2 and STILL cry about the ponytail and his zero self every time he was on screen.
@@starbound100 I agree, it's what happening with Bae, like on yesterday's Okayu stream of 0, Bae came to watch and seems like she's still salty that Majima changed his image
@@starbound100 Yeah, but at the same time, a lot of your emotional attachment to Nishiki disappears if you play Kiwami first.

This is actually how the devs intended to surprise us with the slick Majima in 0 since most who played the game at the time must’ve already finished the original 1&2 then 3,4 and 5.
I had already played through 4 before I started Zero, so I knew some of his backstory.

Her reaction here is exactly why Coco was adamant that you play at least kiwami first. From being confused about him being really formal to then hearing him kinda dip into the kansai dialect right before the "fight". I get it now lol
A reason why any aspiring writer should remember to always name their prequels with numbers keeping on going from their last part instead of jumping back. People don't have the forsight that there is a different effect to learning a persons past when you know their future. By using a lower number you are inviting your consumers to spoil themselves.
I honestly think that 0 is worth playing first so the Nishiki stuff hits harder.
@aerthreepwood8021 There's always a tradeoff. It's either you make Nishiki have more development as a character, or you let yourself be surprised by all that's different. That goes for everyone, too. They did a great job at making 0 a starting point and a place you can return to after.
The big thing I will say is 0's story is leagues better than kiwami/1's, so it can give an inaccurate view of the quality going in.
For every person who plays 0 after Kiwami and got surprised there are ten who didn’t even bother to play 0 afterwards because Kiwami was shit

I still overall had an okay time with Kiwami, but it wasn't nearly as good as 0.

It's very clearly framed to give that slow realization.
I’d imagine that must’ve been how veteran Yakuza players must’ve felt, going from Yakuza 5 to then playing Yakuza 0.
This is the best intro in the series and probably never will be beaten.

I played Kiwami first and then Zero, so I was also surprised by how different Majima was. I prefer Zero Majima.
This might be the greatest character introduction of all time and I can watch anyone react to it for the first time, but it gets many extra points for being Okayu. And "it's so good but what the heck?!" just sums up this scene perfectly.

Majima is a great character
When I first saw this, I was like "Oh, so THIS is why everyone loves Majima?"
And then I started getting into the actual gameplay and story as Majima and I was like "wait, no, THIS is why everyone loves Majima."
2:29 I love that little noise she makes when she notices the eye patch.
I love how effortlessly Majima outmaneuvers the slimy businessman, not just physically but mentally. Completely obliterates him without so much as a hair out of place.
It's little wonder why everyone loves him.
In all fairness, the businessman is absolutely tanked. Means he's even easier to outmaneuver then he already is. :p
@Nehfarius A fair point, of course, but IMO it takes nothing away from Majima's skill.
Majima is easily one of the strongest characters in the franchise only losing to Kiryu, Saejima and some of the bad guys, and this is him on his twenties at the peak of his strength, that guy had no chance

Your subtitles of what the characters are saying in game are WAY more accurate than the actual in game subtitles
Those are the in-game subtitles. If they were more accurate Majima would be subtitled as saying "The customer is God".
