    My Craftsman Bolt on is my favorite tool and probably one of my favorite possessions. When I was drilling today the motor sparked and it died. I knew it had been discontinued and it was the day I had been dreading... I did not want to pay extortion prices on eBay for a new head. I googled it and saw the B&D and I exclaimed that is the EXACT SAME DRILL in a different color because I KNOW my drill. My SO pooh poohed on my idea that maybe JUST maybe the parts would work on mine because it is the SAME body shape.... then I found your video and VICTORY IS MINE!! I may have woohooed a little too loud. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!!!

    Stanley Black & Decker does own Craftsman so that's interesting to see how those connect!

      These were made before Stanley B&D bought Craftsman, which is even cooler when you think about that. The B&D batteries are the way to go when it comes to keeping the CM bolt on handles going. Thanks for stopping by.

    Thank you! I was just searching for replacement batteries for my old Craftsman Bolt On and wanted to confirm my suspicion that the B&D would work. Yay!

    I just purchased the Black and Decker Jig Saw attachment for my Craftsman bolt on. Discovered that they have added a detent to the black and decker that stops the attachment from mating with the craftsman. A utility knife took the detent right off and the attachment fits and works perfectly now.

    • @HardKnocksForge
      @HardKnocksForge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Woolstenhulme that’s a shame they tried to make it so you couldn’t use the different attachments from B&D on the Bolt-Ons. Glad you were able to make it work. The jig saw was one that I used and it did what I needed it to do.

    Black and Decker bought out the craftsman power tools. The 20V batteries are interchangeable and the Matrix parts will all interchange with the Bolt-on parts. I just ordered one my craftsman died. The saw won't cut a 2x4 even flat ways unless you cut both sides. You can get a fast charger for those batteries. I wouldn't get rid of it even for milwaukee, they don't have all the attachments you have to buy each tool seperately.

    I wish there’s a brushless version. I’ve got the BD bolt on line up for the last 5yrs and they are awesome. Only had one drill burned out on me because I modded a kobalt 24v battery to work with it. Over voltage ruined the carbon brush real quick.

    I wish they made a rivet gun attachment. Got an older 12V Matrix. Not sure if I want to upgrade it or not. I don't need another drill. But it would be nice to have the other bits I could swap out. I could see occasional uses for the router and that trim saw could be great for sheetmetal.

    The cheapest way for me to get into wood working is to shop at ikea. That's as close as I get to a fine furniture builder.
    I work with steel just fine but gimme some lumber and I'll invent new ways to screw something up.
    I do use the B&D 20V Lithium Ion system for a couple of drills, and a weed eater. I use a 40V cordless electric lawn mower that works like a champ. The 40V batteries look pretty much the same as the 20V ones... I'll have to try a 40 in the drill.

    • @HardKnocksForge
      @HardKnocksForge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a weed eater and a little blower that's Black & Decker 20 volt also. The weed eater worked great, and still does. The blower sucks on wet grass, but works great for blowing out the shop. The cordless mowers have came a long way in the last 5 years or so. I'd actually consider one of those for my yard if we owned this place.

      It's amazing the amount of rebranding that goes on in the tool world. matco has to be the worst, only thing they make themselves are their toolboxes. I guess they're really no different than Sears Craftsman was, of course we're seeing how that played out for Sears right now. Sears at least rebranded some excellent tool companies, for decent prices, for a long time.

    The bolt on was giving to me as a gift from my wife.
    When we bought our house I went out and bought a b&d weed eater, I then realized the batteries were exactly the same. I bought different b&d attachments for my drill as for some reason are cheaper than craftsman.
    I bought a brand new b&d batrery a couple of days ago that I found cheap on mercari and today I picked up a new craftsman bolt on drill for 30 bucks. This drill is also a bolt on but is a little different, it has an led light that works with the trigger.

      I do still have them. If you’re looking to upgrade I would suggest doing so, if you’re using them to make money with. If you’re just doing hobby type work then it probably wouldn’t be worth the investment in a new cordless system. I actually do still use mine and haven’t had any problems, but I haven’t pushed them hard either. Every tool has limitations and this set up has a few more than stand alone tools, but it’s something you can work around most of the time.

      Stanley black and decker are the OEM supplier and Craftsman bought their tools re-branded with the Craftsman name on them. Of course none of that matters now, because Stanley B&D owns the Craftsman name now.

      Best battery platform out there, for me anyways. TTI, who owns Milwaukee, now also owns Ryobi. Who knows maybe one of these days they make tools where you can trade tips on and swap back and forth.

      Yes, I think they are the same. Not only the batteries but also the charger. I got the same basic charger and it's a porter cable.

      @@Xman11ish chargers are easy to modify, drivers a little bit harder; there are lots of youtubes on dremmel type mods for the batteries and drivers of PC/BD/CM units; I would think the dewalt 20v units are possible too I know they don't work out of the box similarly.

      Most things aren’t made to be dropped. They’ve gotten better with actually drop testing production tools today before they release them. It took them a while to finger out that they weren’t always getting the same build quality, and even materials the companies would specify, back from china to sell in store. It took them some time to learn and we all paid the price for it. I wouldn’t recommend most tools to anyone because I don’t know how people use them. I have called straight junk ass tools junk before, but even junk tools will work for certain people. It’s why most of my videos have gone into just showing people what I buy and maybe giving the thought process of why I chose those tools. I live old tools but sometimes the new shit is leaps and bounds better than the old tools.

      I have old CM ratchets, and wrenches, also. Both the raised panel and the professionals and couldn’t be more happy with them. From what I’ve been able to handle at #LowesBlows for awhile now, their Taiwan ratchets are nice but their china ones are still junk. It’s been 2-3 years of SB&D saying their moving CM back to USA manufacturing and they haven’t done anything except paint the yellow stuff red and call it a potatoe instead of a potato. Everyone keeps talking about the plant in Texas making tons of USA made stuff but I have yet to see any of it. I’d love for CM to be a USA success story once again. I’m just not sure SB&D is the company that’ll make that happen.
