I’m so curious about songs for songs about forgotten soldiers like these because I don’t know if they’re fictional representations of the Ulstermen who fought during the North African Campaign - which I assume is what the basis of this song is - or if it actually is based on a real guy from Londonderry whose dying thoughts were of how he would never his family and homeland ever again. If you could somehow track his records down, it would be so interesting to know the truth, or even just the origin of most of these Loyalist songs decorating our countless, nameless fallen warriors for that matter.
I served in the British army was told what to do my mum is Catholic and Dad is Scottish I made my mind up they both hate the IRA solo I know I done my research I went to Dublin when I was a boy the ira hated me but mum was proper Dub didn't understand it still its very hard Irish people are lovely.
