This video explores some of the concepts that I use in my practice routine and teach to my students on how to develop mastery over bass grooves. Here we're taking a deep dive into Bernard Edwards' classic verse groove from Chic's 'Le Freak' and using his bassline to work on concepts of technique, tone, and timing.
He's back .... Just in time to read "Better Bass Practice' again!
Ha, I should probably read it again and take my own advice!
What a fantastic lesson, I am glad I came across this video, thank you so much for sharing, subscribed immediately!
You're welcome, glad you found it useful!
Excellent lesson! It reminds me again of some of the best Bob Reynolds videos on practice, and also an interview I read about Yo-Yo Ma's practice routine for a new piece. Thanks for the content!
Spot on! These are great reminders. Thank you!
Damn i wish i had a video like this, 5 years ago.
As a self taught, these 4 concepts are the base line of my learning routine now, I slow things down, work my way up by making sure I have good intonation, good control over the sound, I take the time to listen to what i'm about to play, and now and then I also go back to have a listen again, I learn bits by bits like I divide things in phrases, and then put them together as I go on..
But 5 years ago none of that was obvious to me, so I had to learn everything the had way.. I really hope some new students will see this video and make great use of it
Tom this was great!
Thanks Todd, glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you mark watson, your bass playing is great, also your comedy 😂

You are a marvel! Thank you!
Thank you, you're very welcome!
Thanks for the revelation that when trying to learn a bass piece is like learning someone's language they are fluent at.... don't rush and don't beat yourself up and get discouraged. Very helpful and encouraging advice! Just what I need to hear. Thank you. You got a new sub!
Excelent lesson. Many people wish to learn to read music and play. Desde Panamá le saludo. I suscribe inmediately to your channel.
Wow! Just happened across this lesson. Great line thanks for helping me tap the brakes on everything I practice. I agree the ego can take where I don’t need to!
