      Heres my brainfarts: Palps literally told anakin the myth of ressurection before turning him, that is prior to old republic...when with and mandalorian were tight with sith, which personally i'm invested in... check out knights of the old republic. I think the yellow saber in this most intriguing and may be a throwback to that, uncouiscously. Cuz the yellow saber appears in rebels for a moment and they explain it there. I'm just trying like this movie more than what I saw

    Luke was trained for 18 months (according to Lucasfilm) by one of the best and powerfull jedi in the universe and got his hand cut off in the first real fight. Ray basically trained by herself using "How to be a Jedi for Dummies" books and became a jedi of unlimited power defeating everyone with no sweat. Erik, can't you really see the difference, mate? Erik, Luke had 3 years between ANH and ESB to practice with his saber, then his incomplete training with Yoda where he gets his ass handed to him by Vader on Cloud City, then he had another year between ESB and Rotj to further practice, that's over 4 years we don't see to answer your question. Rey had 48 hours between two movies where she showed Jedi level proficiency, so 4 years vs 48 hours. She is clearly OP, despite her Palpatine heritage, so I have to side with Stevie

    • @jusdrewit
      @jusdrewit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@tari8134 except Luke didn't fight Vader in the first movie did he? Did Rey? Yup, and she beat Kylo. Three years go by before ESB, and Luke could've practiced much more, plus it's vague how long he trains with Yoda, before he fights Vader, and he loses handily (pardon the pun). Does Rey? Nope, she goes from 24-48 hours from picking up a lightsaber to beating Kylo, to beating Luke in a fencing duel, then beating several elite Praetorian guards to lifting boulders like they are nothing. Apples to oranges, the learning curve we see from her is unprecedented. Luke fails time and time again before triumphing, what is one thing Rey fails at? She's practically a Jedi master in 24 hours lol 😂

    • @tari8134

      @@tari8134 did you watch the movie? We see people go absolutely flying everytime they get hit with the bowcaster in the movie but not with Kylo, so clearly it was just a glancing blow. Funny how him being shot didn't matter when he fought Finn, a bigger and stronger opponent with exactly the same amount of lightsaber training...none. Lastly, using your analogy, I would 100% disagree, a glancing wound on Jon Jones and he would still beat the majority of people on this planet

    Luke was an athletic fighter because of his force powers, which Yoda trained him to harness. He didnt have great lightsaber dueling technique early on. He had his goddamn hand chopped off. Rey knew how to fight, but she was never trained using lightsaber techniques. Yet she somehow because an expert lightsaber duelist immediately

      But Rey's been fighting her whole life. Even if she hasn't been using a light saber, she still has fighting and survival skills she acquired on her own, so it will be easier for her to catch on to the ways of the Jedi faster than someone who's been farming their whole life. It's like a street kid who's been street fighting their whole life will learn boxing faster than someone who hasn't.
      That's why Mike Tyson was so great. He was already brawling as an adolescence. So when Cus D'Amato found him, he learned quickly. If Mike Tyson was a farmer instead of some street kid from Brooklyn, it may have taken him 100 times longer to learn the skills. What Erik is saying is that Rey and Luke were raised differently and Rey's background was already tougher than Luke's, that's why she learned so much faster.

      I didn't pick up that she learned anything from those books, this movie didn't even address that those books existed and I thought that Yoda destroyed them with lightning in the last movie. I think what this movie wanted you to believe was that she was trained by Leia and through training with the force this was something she figured out she could do. I'm only a casual fan of Star Wars but I'm pretty sure that everyone has their own "abilities" or gifts/strengths when it comes to the force and lightsabers.

      They do.. every jedi is different, and there is no way of knowing until their abilities manifest and the jedi starts experimenting after their ascent or awakening. A lot of the jedi that ppl compare her to aren't good at many things. Most are good at one thing, almost none are great at force and saber. It's usually one or the other. A looooot of jedi are mediocre really, and some only excel in intelligence, strategy, politics, or teaching... so nothing too special there. The whole shit is basically a telling of the chosen bloodline.. and it goes deeper if u care enough. It is what it is... I don't really like the way the new ones went but they were good films... 8 was definitely my least favorite of all of the star wars movies though. What are gunna do tho :p

    The part where you guys get heated i have to say Stevie is more in the right. I understand what Erik is saying about Rey already being a physical fighter when you meet her and that is true, but she knows how to handle conventional weapons. A lightsaber is an entirely different deal, sabers are unwieldy weapons with lopsided weight, they require force assistance to effectively use and master. Luke really didn't get much training either so it's a fair point, but at the very least Luke practiced with the ball training device thing. He was practiced blind which required him to use the force to predict and sense movements. It's really not much at all but it's still more than Rey ever had before she picked up a saber and used it.

    Luke is a farm boy who lives on his farms but what do farmers fight against? Sand people, pests, etc.
    Obi-wan showed Luke that with the force he become to learn to be a Jedi. That’s when he showed the the Jedi mind trick and showed him how to deflect blasters bolts by tapping into the force. Luke then goes to master yoda on how to use the force as well. But the main theme of this Luke was shown and partly trained on how to use the force and how to understand it.
    Rey in the force awakens Jedi mind tricks a guard outta no where. She then defeats Kylo who was trained by Luke and Snoke and still bested by her.

    Erik’s wrong. Luke began training with Kenobi, continued with Yoda, returned to Degoba after Cloud City and completed his training with Yoda to become a Jedi Master. Genetics and Midiclorian levels also play a part (not sure of all spelling).

    47:00 Erik is making me red-zone as well. What Erik is not allowing Steve to say is they invested a good amount of character building into Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. They did not do this for Rey, which is why Luke Skywalker is an icon and Rey is a joke. While Erik is right, Luke does start out as a farm boy on a desert planet and is never really properly trained, he is also not an instant-bad a$$ either. He gets clobbered by sand people. He is tossed around like a pup at Mos Eisely by two face and the walrus. He can barely deflect the lasers from that practice droid thing on the Millenium Falcon. He almost gets eaten by the garbage disposal monster. He's pretty much bumbling and helpless through the entire first two movies. We go all the way through the first Star Wars and half way through Empire Strikes back before Luke really does anything with his light saber, which is battle Darth Vader. And he GETS HIS HAND CUT OFF. Luke faced the baddest M-Fer in the galaxy and what you expect happens is what happens...he is beaten soundly and loses a hand, and would be dead if Vader wasn't his father. Luke finally is kind of a bad-a$$ in Return of the Jedi. It takes THREE MOVIES for him to get there. Rey is overpowered the SECOND SHE TOUCHES A LIGHT SABRE. She beats this triology's all powerful sith lord(Kylo Ren) the first time she touches a light sabre. It's disgusting. It makes no sense.
    ERIK...you are the one who isn't listening. I had to type a book just explaining Luke's journey. Rey has NO JOURNEY. It makes for a vapid, empty, unlikeable character. The only way I would have cheered for Rey on the screen is if she had died.

    "You can't have backstory on a story we already know"
    Great point about why this new Star Wars felt flat but HBO Watchmen actually did this to great effect. The reason why it works is that the new addition to the Watchmen storyline doesn't change any of the events that happened in the original but it does add another layer that makes it feel more meaningful.

  • @iifinessedu
    @iifinessedu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The funniest thing is that they both were right. Steve's point was that he thinks Rey should be lacking because she had no Jedi training whatsoever whereas Luke did get trained by Jedi Masters (Yoda mostly and Obi-wan). Erik's point was that prior to ANY training whatsoever Rey coulda whooped that farm boys ass because she had to be tough and fight in the environment that she grew up instead of picking daisies. Erik saw this as 'training' to some degree but Steve says, "fuck that that aint Jedi training". Tbh even Luke was shocked when Rey grabbed the saber but i want to relate it to Anakin and his piloting skills. It did translate as he was one of the best pilots in the galaxy but I wouldn't necessarily ever call it official training.
