Thank you Steve. Glad you liked it. If you've not been back since, you would find many changes. I've got quite a few videos on here if you want to see some more upto date ones....mainly driving around the area. I think Tesco roundabout mighg surprise you. Thanks again for watching.
Brilliant! I worked on this development back in 1989, i was employed with Duffy & Carr as a labourer / groundworks digging many of the holes for the steel work & also worked with Taylor Woodrow who managed the project.
Thank you for watching. There are now plans to knock some of this down and redevelop the area. There's also a video on here by me from early last year of you want to see it as it is now. 👍🙂
I live in Andover and it really cool to see how the town used to look like 30 years ago and trying to Recognise what parts are town are. Cool footage 👍👍
The crane is roughly where Waitrose is now standing and I was standing tak8ng the video of it from about where David Mellor is now. That was where the centre ended and went down the steps to where the buses were.
I do believe that the council are planning big changes around the town centre, including the Chantry Centre. Might be worth looking on the TVBC website to see what they're looking at. Thank you for watching.
Thanks Dominic. I wish i'd done a lot more of Andover all those years ago. I've a few others on here from the 1980's too, if you search down my list, you'll find them amongst all the other stuff.
Brings back memories. I was born in Andover and left in 1993 when i was 9. There was a small newsagent shop with red carpet and steep steps leading into the doorway and i have been trying to remember the name. 😂😂 My mum used to buy me sweets there all the time.
My dad bought a TV from Bakers in 1990 I think, a massive 21" Sony Trinitron TV with a SCART socket, he may well have saw you on that day. Amazing how much Andover has changed, saddest part is now there is hardly any shops.
@@DavidGarside it developed a fault after 15 years where it lost colour, we then gave it to a friend who then did some spot soldering and sorted it. Not sure how much longer it went on but knocking on the door of 20 years at least. Thanks again for the archive footage.
Google is spying on me..i only tried to remember while walking through it yesterday what it used to look like whilst i was at college in 1989 and up pops this video....
Great video. Does anyone know where the old Doves garage was back in the mid 80's. I worked there for 3 weeķs back in 1985 ish I think it was on a one way system? Was it near where lidl has been built?
Yes, when you come down Chantry Street and bear left at the bottom, it was on the right where there is a parking area now.... Between Portland Place (I think it's called) and the first entrance to Lidl. I think the actual garage was behind the entrance and extended to where Lidl is now. That's where we filled our company car up when I first started work in Andover. It was one way as it is now but the road went straight through where Waitrose is now and came out where the mscp entrance is now. Thanks for watching and your comment. 👍😊
@@DavidGarside Thanks for that David, really interesting and it's so different now. I assume the bus station wasnt there either? Weve been living nearby since 2002 and came down from London. I got a 3 week secondment to Doves Ford from Croydon Doves to fit the racking in the back of Granada TV rental cars 🤣 I stayed in a B&B right near Mylen Road and Weyhill that I saw was knocked down and build into new homes. Do you have anymore andover videos? Thanks for the response
That's ok. Where I was standing filming the crane, just below me on the road was where all the buses stopped at the time. I do know the bus station was in Bridge Street where Iceland is now, but can't remember when it was demolished. 👍 I have other videos on TH-cam of Andover.... One is made up of a series of photos from 2000 so there may be a few in there that you would like to see. Click on my playlists and you'll find one of New and Old Andover. They're all in there. Good luck and thanks again.
I used to Rollerskate in that square with a group of us. I left in 83 so don't know if Tandy and Dixons was still there. But I used to write a program on the Tandy's Texas Instrument computer to buy at Dixons and did the opposite at Dixons. I think I was 12. Language was BASIC of course.
@@DavidGarside family still there im only just over the wilts boarder - but remember bakers n all the places - when i saw this ages ago on YT it was very nostalgicly fascinating.

Wow! I left Andover in '85. So much of that is how I remember it. Glad I watched this to compare with my memories. Cheers!

Me too.....I'd have done a lot more if I'd known how much things would have changed over the years. Thank you for watching and your kind comment. 👍☺️
This all needs doing again, Andover has become a ghost town.
I do believe that the council are planning big changes around the town centre, including the Chantry Centre. Might be worth looking on the TVBC website to see what they're looking at. Thank you for watching.
That white RS Turbo! 😍
I left Andover about 3 yrs ago, only to Salisbury but I don't miss it at all!
Great video though 👍
Thanks! 👍
I find it so interesting to see town before it was modernised

David Garside thanks
My god the memories. Take me back!!!!
The 80s stuff is best the camera quality makes everything look exciting.

Dry joints, quite common on some sets. It did well, 20 years.... Well worth the money!.

Well done Andover. The only town that was better then than now. No one cares about Jenny's - it's all about the Gorge
