I have a hard time with this one. God saying do not even mourn your fathers and mothers I know they were not doing good and worshiping other gods but it seems so harsh because we know how it hurts to lose someone hard for me to understand
I certainly understand the difficulty with this one due to the emotions of losing a loved one. However, remember that he is telling about things that WILL happen, not that are currently happening. God is foretelling the time of captivity and giving Jeremiah reasons not to have a family. The Lord is stating that they will die from sword or famine and that there will be no funerals. Nobody to grieve the loss or rejoice a marriage, for they will either be dead, dying, or gone from the land. While we might look at it and think that God was commanding them not to mourn. In actuality God is stating it will do no good to mourn. There will be nobody to mourn, and God's peace, love, and mercy will have been removed for their unrighteousness. It's a picture of despair, not a command not to care.
