As my gun nut friend once said, it doesn't matter if it's a .22 or a .50 cal, the human body doesn't like having extra holes punched in it.
There is a youtube video that breaks down stats regarding caliber. Look it up. Basically, 22 is crap, but it really doesnt matter above that. Shotgun is best for home defense.
Most home intruders are shot within 12 feet of the home owner. A 22 magnum will do the job!

@@michaelknight2897 It's not even about the lethal. At close range with someone looking to hurt you and possibly on drugs like Methamphetamine, what people focus on is stopping power. A .22 can absolutely be lethal. A meth-head could probably walk through like 6-8 rounds of it and stab or shoot you though before they die. Excluding crazy drug-fueled break-ins, I agree with Bill Burr though. You can absolutely defend your house with a bb/pellet gun and definitely a .22 if they were in a position to still feel pain and were just looking to rob someone. The times you REALLY need something with a bunch of stopping power is for some kind of drugged up murderer.

lol army 11b (5 yrs) and 13f (3 yrs) and not kidding- you get over that sound. I was a .50 cal gunner and barely used my ear pro so i could hear my TC (truck commander).
BUT this is the best defense I've ever heard for a .22 lmao
My .45 might just do the trick but more ammo and chances to shoot uninhibited is a valid argument.

@@emiliechoquette848 -- I was in the army for 8 years. I spent time in a Field artillery unit and an aviation unit. Between the sounds of firearms, artillery, and Chinooks; all military people get used to operating with that level of sound. That bang doesn't create the ring it does for people not accustomed to arms.
That ring is real the first times though in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure if you are a normal gun owner and you go to the range enough you will get used to it just the same. I wouldn't tell anyone to go to the range enough to get used to the sound on purpose though.
Our hearing sucks after leaving the military.
Fired my 45 indoors once. Ears didn't ring at all. Not even a little.
Stay away from .22's for self defense, they misfire all the time due to the small diameter of the cartridge that the firing pin is hitting on the outer rim. I was a storm-trooper in the army myself, mostly shooting 7.62 G3's and rocket launchers, but I have been a competitive pistol shooter for over 20 years, and I would rather trust a knife over a .22. If I was allowed to open carry, I would carry my 7-round .357 magnum/.38 or a Glock 19. Those can be trusted, especially if you're lazy and don't clean your guns often :)
I have fired of a 9mm inside without ear-protection, and it sucks ass, but I didn't go deaf. Though I did loose 50% of my hearing on my right ear when I was living in a CV-90 storm-trooper tank, sitting 1 foot away from the cannon, having forgotten to put on my ear-protection, which suddenly started shooting while I was sleeping, haha. THAT was a bitch.
I have a .22 but it's loaded with hollow points . So if you get hit you have lead splinters ripping all around in side you. It's also 30 rounds.
.22 is accurate as hell. And the bullets bounce around and shatter.
A 22 is not as lethal as a lot of people believe. Ever been shot by a 22? I got shot in the chest by a 22, it feels like a needle you get at the doctors office, until you start calming down and you finally realize you been shot by a 22. Lol.
A 22 doesnt have the impact as a caliber like a 9mm, .45, or a 223. Getting shot by one of those you actually feel the impact, if your adrenaline isnt that high.
Even getting shot 2 or 3 times by a 22, 9 times out of 10, you can still get to the person and stab them. If the attacker has a gun, they will probably be able to drop you way before they die or faint. Hell, they will probably have enough time to shoot you dead, and get away, even with 2 or 3 rounds in them from a 22.
The point is, the less rounds it takes to drop the intruder, the better. Not to mention, the more holes you put in them, the more likely they will die, either in your home or on the way to the hospital.
If you can drop the intruder with a single shot from a 45, the better chance that you will save your life and your families life.
