I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I'm in remission now! Doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible.
When I made this TH-cam name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛

Everything about Eclipse is electric. The outfits, the music, her singing, her rap, the dance. It's easily one of my favorite things to come out of kpop last year, if not all time. Moonbyul's just out here killing it like it's nothing!
No one could dance like moonbyul. I've been kpop fan for almost 8 years, almost all female idol dance with same style (especially cute or sexy dance style). But it's so refreshing to see female idol did popping, locking, urban dance style like moonbyul. She has her own dance style. Moonbyul is unique and original. That's why she's my bias. Especially she proving that without showing so much skin, she still look pretty, handsome, hot and sexy.
don't forget Wheein. she also does popping, locking and urban/hip hop. watch her dance covers to Be Like Me, Lo Lo, and Title. she can also make choreo like Trash and Water Color so she's more versatile. if there were main and lead roles for dance in Mamamoo Wheein would be main.
@@SapiaNt0mata you're right. Wheein more versatile, she is amazing dancer. I didnt talk about who is the best dancer, but about the vibe. Like wheein could do popping and locking dance too, but she still look feminine and has sassy vibe when she do that. But moonbyul is more unique. I feel like i'm watching boy group's dance when i see byul dance. Now i need dance line sub unit. WheeByul 😍

definitely worth it, I love them both so much! They almost have opposing emotions, but that's what I love about them too. Moonbyul is just amazing

Just how Joy's Hello suit her well. Eclipse suited Moon so damn well. This song is the reason why she's my bias in Mamamoo. It's her style, the dance, the rap, everything.
the song itself is about the various aspects of a person's self... each outfit in the mv is meant to represent one of those aspects, though only two get named. the version in all white is 'moonstar, the defender' while the all black is 'monster, the devourer'. the one barely seen outfit with both black and white, seen pulling (or being pulled by) ropes she said is the most important one, trying to keep a balance between the two. the brown outfit is in balance or the version she shows to everybody. she never actually discussed the soldier outfit, so that one is up in the air
and one thing she said is she believes there should be no gender in music... there's no such thing as 'boy music' or 'girl music'. she wanted to showcase that with the choreography here (it helps that she usually gravitates towards what is generally considered masculine). she worked with a choreographer known for working with boy groups (particularly exo) and was the first female artist he ever worked with
usually byul has male backup dancers but she also made sure one of her performance videos for this song was nothing but female backup dancers
and another interesting thing is the changes she made in every livestage while promoting the song. since she wore a different outfit each time, she danced according to the persona that outfit represented. easiest example to see was when she was 'monster', the all black outfit. for that stage she danced more forcefully and her moves were also a bit more erratic

I'm always here for appreciation of Moonbyul's dance moves, vocals, rap and lyricism. She's amazing, there's so much detail in her footwork and it's great to watch a dancer react to it.

I always love watching people who know what they are talking about compliment my girls. Moonbyul is such an inspiring person and artist. She is always unashamedly herself and she looks so cool doing it. She said many times that eclipse is a style she has always wanted to try and that her wish is to keep releasing songs that proves music is not limited by gender. Her lyricism is also something that i wish more people paid attention to bc she is a poet. You should check out absence and listen to the whole dsotm album bc is so beautiful and also insightful. So here is the deal... Wheein is my bias, but Moonbyul's solo stuff is my favorite. Overall I love Mamamoo and each member is so special.

Personnaly i support Wheein the most in MAMAMOO, but i was really surprised by MOONBYUL solos.

The whole Dark Side of The Moon album is rich in breaking gender-norm vibe, music & dancing wise. It's Moonbyul's vibe all the way. I really respect this particular album.
Have you seen Selfish by Moonbyul and Seulgi of Red Velvet yet? If not, please check it out. It's a different side of Moonbyul than Eclipse but I absolutely love that song. Also, Absence performance video is another must see.
Eclipse is my fav Moonbyul song. Absence, Mirror, Moon Movie, Love and Hate would fill out the top 5. I personally think this fits her more then Selfish. Though I think any track on Moon or Darkaide of the Moon fits more then Selfish.

Same! I'm a TWICE fan and I don't really check out other GG but there's something about Moonbyul that attracts me and made watch their stuffs and listen to their music. I can't even remember how many times I've watched this MV because it's so dope!
just a little trivia: the choreographer for Eclipse is Kasper, mostly known for working with EXO. if i remember correctly, he said Moonbyul was the first female artist he ever worked with! :D
also if you feel like Moonbyul's solo is the one you gravitate towards the most, i'd heavily suggest listening to her full EP Dark Side Of The Moon. it's truly a wonderful piece of work.

As far as I can remember this was choreographed by EXO's almost resident choreographer since he choreographed a lot of EXO's dance in their earlier years lol. His name is Kasper and he is also a part of this company called One Million Dance Studio which offers dance classes and uploads videos of them dancing on youtube.
this was indeed done by kasper. moonbyul was the first female artist he ever worked with and he wound up having nothing but praise for her and her dancers (both male and female). he even came back like a month later to choreograph her song "absence"

I highly recommend 'Dancer change ver' of this song choreography,,
It has proper camera work that highlights best elements of the dance, btw, it is filmed by the choreographer(!),, at different scenery with female dancers(!),, it radiates different vibe,, +she's ultra swag there.

Your analysis on the dance is very informative. It kind of opened a whole new world for me as I have not the slightest knowledge about dance. This made me appreciate it more.
The long awaited reaction to Eclipse! I knew you'd like the dance for it, since it seems way more in line with your style. Moonbyul doesn't get to showcase her skill in this type of style with Mamamoo (we love them all though), so it's great to see that she gets to do so in her solo work. A lot of her other songs on her solo album are also worth checking out, if you have the time. One thing I love about Moonbyul's dancing is that she has a habit of "gliding" very often. Like, she doesn't _actually_ glide (although she _does_ know how to do a short one). But she has a clear habit of not lifting her feet very far from the ground when dancing, and it always gives such a smooth visual when she moves around. Keep an eye out and you might see it in future/other choreo videos! :)
I just want to point out a few cool choreography points, since Byul's dances always seem to have something very symbolic in them:
- She often covers her eyes with her hands/arms, similar to how the moon cover the sun (eclipse).
- Whenever she's making a ball-like form with her two hands, that's supposed to be the moon.
- When the dancers surround her during the slow down, and she's following her hand slowly in an arch, it's like how the moon travels through the night sky.
- There's a move where she covers her face with her hand then peeks out behind it, like she's removing a mask. The song "Eclipse" is about the dark and light sides of the moon/a person...so it's like revealing another side of you. Peek-a-boo...
- The part that you like when she raises up her arm lines up with the lyrics, "I'll save you with my light." Reaching up, it's like she's holding the moon that is shining down.
Much like others say, "Absence" is also a fantastic piece. The style is much more RnB pop ballad (mmm angst), but the dancing again has very intricate moments. (There's only a Performance MV if you ever look it up.) Alternatively, there's also a Dingo Move Rec version that also includes her dancing to her intro track, "Satellite." Absolutely love her music. This is one of my favorite mvs of hers. Such duality. Still my bae not bias. You should check out Alexa's dance of this w Moonbyul its phenomenal.

It’s a song inspired by the kdrama ‘World of the Married Couple’ she wrote lyrics while watching that, and in addition to that, she sort of(?) confirmed that its based on the perspective of the mistress there, which made the lyrics hit harder + the choreography is good too!

I hope you'll take a look at all the show performances for Eclipse! Because as she has 2 main performance personas in this song, MoonStar the protector and Monster the devourer, in the performance shows, she will dance according to what she's dressed during the show.
When she's Moonstar, her actions are light, smooth, and fluid. But when she's Monster, the actions tend to be more erratic and powerful. Same thing for her expressions for each performances!

Another reaction point out that she was the first to fully use male choro elements. Because of her vocal tone it really makes it work. Can't think of another female artist that could do this.
