The SC 430's are terrific cars. I own an 04 with 60k on the clock, it has the same exterior color as Bill's but mine has the lighter ecru interior. It's a 3rd car for me. I also own a Miata and a Tacoma. The Miata is a blast to drive as and gets attention anywhere I go in it. But the SC is a comfortable, luxurious, solidly well built car that I'm sure that I'll keep for many, many more years to come. I think of the SC not just as a boulevard cruiser, but a very personal luxury coupe/convertible. It's one of those cars that after you get out of it and walk a few steps, you'll look back at it to appreciate its beauty. I think part of its beauty is that it looks expensively Japanese -- with a bit of a European flair. Thank's Bill! Great review!
There are a couple-three SC430 groups on FB and the word “love” is used a lot. It is not unusual for couples to have his and hers SC430s. Also not unusual for past owners to express regrets about selling theirs - only to acquire another - the car is that good. Yes, it is a luxury car first, but with a top speed of 160 mph, they had to design a suspension to safely handle those speeds. I have taken off ramps at well over twice the posted speed limit and never felt like I was going to lose control. Even with the top down, you only hear a low hum from the exhaust. Owners have reported over 350K miles on the their odometers - claiming with proper maintenance it is easily a 400K engine. We love our SC430.
@6:50 Regarding timing belt replacement "well before it was due," actually Bill, Lexus recommends the timing belt replacement at 90K or nine years, whichever comes first. In this case, he did it four years past the recommended period though most seasoned SC430 owners will tell you the belts are rarely in need of replacement based on years alone. People have replaced them at the nine year mark with low mileage and the belts looked in fantastic condition. That being said, with an interference engine, better to be safe than sorry. Keep 'em coming. Love your banter, 'been a fan for ages.

I love it, super creamy drive train, beautiful interior that is like new after 18 years. . . Mine is an electric blue metallic with cream interior, a color combination not in the USA, I believe.
Hell yeah I love how he talks about the poor canadians..and I really love how he just about always looks at the storage compartments and can tell you what weapon would fit perfectly in it...that has me rolling everytime. And how he points out the big twice pipes and let's you know Exactly What they're there for..lol

I recently asked Doug DeMuro if he thinks the SC 430 will increase in value like the 93-02 Supra increased in value over the last decade or so and he laughed at my suggestion that the SC 430 could be a future classic and naturally his followers all called me stupid. Well... Sorry for asking.
Time will prove Doug wrong on that one. These are holding their value incredibly well, especially the limited edition, low mileage versions. It won't be as desired as the F&F-pumped 93-02 Supras but yes, they will get to classic status down the road. It is a timeless design that has aged well and when maintained properly, will outlive Keith Richards.

As a matter of fact, low mileage SC430s, especially the limited edition versions such as the 05 Pebble Beach are rising consistently year to year with several examples $20K and up. As for the college kid analogy, I just wrapped up 16 years working at a university and not once did I see a student driving an SC430 so yeah, there's that. If you had said real estate agent you'd have been more accurate. 😂

The only thing wrong with the SC 430 is the lack of side head protection airbags. Yes, it does have side airbags, but they only protect the torso, not head and torso like in a similar Mercedes SL R230.
Bought a 2002 in 2006 from the original owner with 14K on the clock, I still have it and it has never asked for anything other than normal maintenance. It never fails to gather attention wherever I go, especially when I put the top up or down. IMO Jeremy Clarkson is an idiot for claiming it was the worse car ever built.
The only feature-rich and complex luxury brand vehicle I'd buy out of warranty is a Lexus. I'd get almost zero snob appeal, but I'd be miles ahead financially over time, and also be far less bothered by problems. Lexus cars are very sophisticated, comparable to the Euro competitors. They handle better than they get credit for, and more than good enough for the way these cars are actually driven in America. The Lexus dealer experience is first rate, so what's not to like?

Buick is actually the top American brand reliability wise. GM isn’t bad but their drivetrains. Their interiors aren’t the best that’s for sure though.

I think 02 was the start of that last SC. I have an 04 Jaguar XJ VDP and the back seats are still mint because they hardly ever get used.
