    Elvis was such a strong, confident singer that he was able to hold his own against the sublime background vocals of the Jordanaires without ever feeling or *being* outshone.

    Definitely a #1 hit (1958). Notably, the same guys that've written some great songs for the Jailhouse Rock and King Creole movies, have written this.

    My favorite, he was singing right to me in that honey tinged voice. When I was 17 years old I nearly wore this record out. This was #1 in 1956, at that time he admitted he like it himself. Like this senual style please listen to "Soldier Boy", "Is it So Strange", and "I Want You, I Need you, I Love You". Are like Catnip to women. Love your Chipmunk voice. Thanks.

    This is one of his best ballads of the 1950s. His voice was superb --full of power and yet tenderness too.
    It's theme was like Pat Boone's "Don't Forbid Me." That was one of Pat's best. Elvis did some of it during the taping of The Million Dollar Quartet.

    • @Grithron2
      @Grithron2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But Pat's song had a get-out clause - all that baby-it's-cold-outside stuff - this one is as "serious" as a Lieber/Stoller effort can get.

    SEPH, This was a very popular song, with nearly constant play, especially on most jukeboxes thru out the U.S.A. A Jukebox is a machine that spins 45 records for money. Some of these have powerful speaker systems, that will fill a dancehall with sound.
    "Don't" is one of my favorite songs..and it's masterfully sung.

    Well, you've covered most of Elvis' '58 and '59 songs. (Still anxiously waiting on the remainder of the '57s). The only '58 song left, according to my list, is "Hard Headed Woman". When you react to this one, just so you know, the official audio version cuts off the end of the song. Also, it's very fast so this version with lyrics is helpful: Elvis Presley ~ Hard Headed Woman (2:00). It's a black background with the lyrics written in white. And, again according to my list, the only '59 songs left are "We're Gonna Move" and "Milky White Way". Then it's on to the post Army years and the movie decade. I'm enjoying your journey SO much!!

    This is pure gold to me. I fell in love with this one first time I heard it.
    It's so divine, pure Heaven to the ears, in my opinion.
    Since I'm late and your question has already been answered, I'm gonna skip over that part 😉😊
    Minor spoiler: Elvis sings this again. Though not live on stage. Nope. He was filmed during a 1970 rehearsal and he was just cutting up with his band and just started singing this one off the cuff.
    No Jordanaires, but I'll refrain until I hear what you think when you get there.
    Truly wonderful reaction, Seph. I could practically see your brain erupting in goosebumps 😂
    Bravo 💥💥👏👏👌💖

      They didn't have any of the home recordings or any of the Million Dollar Quartet recordings. So a lot of those I just listened for the first time here on your channel actually 😊

    • @sammy_the_uncool2702
      @sammy_the_uncool2702 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SephPlays Well I guess you could say I started out in 1970 then skipped backwards to 1968 then jumped forwards to 1973 then from there skipped backwards.
      You know when they call it THE Elvis Rabbit Hole, they're not kidding.
      Some songs I just stumbled on in no particular order.
      Slight spoiler: There is a song Elvis recorded in 1960 that fell in love with after listening to several different takes of the song in succession. It's interesting to hear the process of a song in the studio.
      Especially back then.
      But my Aunt had been fan. I wasn't. However, I guess I also erroneously believed that I'd already knew every 1950's Elvis song. Nope. I didn't. I only knew about 15- 20 which is just a drop in the bucket as it turns out 😁

    Wow...19 Elvis reactions in one day. And you stuck with it through all the bad audio. Kudos to you, Seph! You're a real champ! You mentioned autotune. It didn't exist back in Elvis' day. I saw a video with an expert analyzing his voice, and he said he couldn't be autotuned partially due to his very fast vibrato.

    • @jjbud3124
      @jjbud3124 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was the range in his vibrato, in addition to the way he starts most notes a tiny bit off key and goes through notes both above and below key. He (forget his name) played a section where he put autotone into Elvis's voice and it took away some of the Elvis signature sound, which is the part of his voice that makes you feel the emotion of the song. There was so much variation in Elvis's voice and range that the autotune gets the wrong note sometimes. That was a very interesting video.
