Thank you for this. I first heard the shipping forecast one early morning while jet lagged in UK - it was mesmerizing and relaxing then, and still is now. Superb upload. Thank you!
I have had trouble sleeping and started listening to this on a night..It really helps me sleep and love the words, even though I don’t understand.. Thanks and Goodnight God Bless 🇮🇪
The animation is wonderful I love the shipping forecast before TH-cam I would listen to it, on my little radio by my bedside thought I was the only weirdo 😂
Thank you so much for saying that! I just learned about the BBC version recently, but they used to play an American version at the docks in Washington state USA and found it hypnotic. I couldn't find a US version online.
I also did this, long before youtube. Strange to imagine maybe thousands of us, tucked up in bed listening to this stuff at 1am on the radio. The song they played before, 'Sailing By', was excellent too
Losing their identities ... Good occasionally poor ... First heard these terms in childhood once in a while and still find it all endearing and intriguing. Certainly can make one feel cosy . Love this x
If you listen carefully while the first meteorologist is reading and gets to the forecast you can hear someone in the background say, “Best seat in the house, eh?” 😂 I’m from the US and never heard of the shipping forecast before. (Wonder why we don’t have a shipping forecast?” Anyway, I wouldn’t have ever listened to it if it weren’t for that crazy dog; I just had to see what it was all about. Now this is my nightly listen so thanks so much!
Haha yeah, it’s the best seat in the house. It’s funny the things people say to each other. Thanks for listening so closely. In the US there are maritime weather broadcasts, but they are all regional. If you ever camp at a state park campground with a lot of boaters you might find a dedicated radio broadcast that sounds way crunchier. I couldn’t find any nice clean audio files of any U.S. broadcasts, but I should go look again.
Lolol this is priceless. I listen to Nicholas Wright's channel for sleep hypnosis sessions and they're so good that I've barely made it beyond ten minutes in any of them. But this is pretty chill background noise. Had no idea it existed... Joy at the randomness in this world. Take care, dear ones. 🌏🍃🔭✨🌙🦉🛸✨
This is marvelous! My brother was a merchant mariner. So I spent a lot of my younger years thinking about how the weather was where he was. Im not sure it would've made me feel any better to hear this, but it's certainly soothing now. I'm going to share it with him and see if he recognizes it. Thanjs so much!
Absolutely perfect 🇬🇧 asmr, Laurie MacMillan was the best announer, totally calm even in Galeforce storms, all is well reports from all around the coast 😀 💤😴 ❤ 🚢
BRILLIANT!!! Yesterday I discovered the awesome UK Shipping Forcast and now with the added waves 🙏🏻🙌🏼 👏🏼 I’m now searching for the Shipping Forcast being read with some chilled ambient or Lo Fi mixed in 🎵 Thanks so much for this my friend!
Welcome aboard! That is a good idea about mixing the lofi/ambient with the shipping forecast, I will have to think about what kind of character to draw.
I love this so much! Thank you! I’d put it in my overnight queue so I woke up to it, in the pre-alarm hour. What a treat : ) The stormy background is perfection, tho the guy I woke to had a sort of composed desperation as he tried to beat the clock - with the waves crashing in the background it reminded me of the band that played as the Titanic sank! Just ever so slightly absurd, but at the same time soothing. Thank you again, this is awesome. ❤ (Also, the artwork is adorable!)
ah, brilliant. stuff like this seems so under-appreciated, and can be so fulfilling. the voicework and sound-mixing is aced, as is the overall nature of this work
Thank you! The voices are all original BBC broadcasts. I wish my voice could pull this off. If you want to hear my weirdo American voice you can check out other videos on my channel but they are more cartoonish.
@Lullaby_Almost I haven't!! I'm a Midwesterner, US - I doubt I've even heard any real, functional marine language - let alone marine language combined w objectively beautiful proper nouns or verbs and whatever this all is. Despite that, though - I also know I would've bet cash $$ I've heard everything on Earth at least once, so I was - extra appreciative - for the fun of something new. Lol yeah I did indeed nerd out
I would like to hear the weather during the 1979 Fastnet Race from England to Ireland and back which triggered Britain`s biggest peacetime rescue operation and which my father mercifully survived but 21 other poor souls didn`t........Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran nearly drowned when his own yacht Drum capsized and sank too.
I vaguely remember that terrible disaster 14th August, gusts of 75mph were recorded 15 sailors who entered the race losted their lives 4 spectators also perished numerous yachts abandoned quite a few sunk, your dad was extremely lucky did he ever participate in the race again ?
My great uncle liked to tell about a time he was cast off to sea in a wreck, but the story always finished with him waiting for someone to ask what happened, then he would say "oh, I died." this made me want to almost drown someday so I could tell the same joke, it wasn't until I was older that I realized that it was possible to tell entirely tall tales based on no truths!
Some of the weather stations are "automatic" so the name of the station includes the word automatic. For example: Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic, Greenwich Light Vessel Automatic, St. Catherine's Point Automatic
I do want to get around to doing a better waves sound recording. I tried to edit most of the distractions, dogs, talking and kids out but there are a few that snuck in still. I'm sorry about that, thank you for asking that will get me motivated to do a new post. I'm working on a spaceship version right now.

I did maritime shipping forecasts over a period of twenty six years.
By fortitude, I managed never to say, ..."shattered scours"...
Wow cool. Do you have recordings of yourself reading it? I can put your voice in a video if you are into that idea!
I have had trouble sleeping and started listening to this on a night..It really helps me sleep and love the words, even though I don’t understand.. Thanks and Goodnight God Bless 🇮🇪
Wonderful!
This how I always pictured it, all tucked into bed, in the dark and alone. Good night everyone

Who remembers when Hyacinth Bouquet requested the Shipping Forecast before she and Richard went aboard the moored boat❤❤❤❤❤
I had to google that one!
So funny! Sorry Mrs. Bucket. "That's 'Bouquet.'"

The shipping forecast must be one of the most popular things on radio four and part of the British traditions.

I don’t know why I like this but I do! ☺️ The combination of visuals and calm vocals is quite nice so maybe it’s that. 🙂
Thank you!

I was just thinking of making a food version, calm kitchen sounds

Reading up on it - omg no wonder I thought it sounded like literature, or a spell. I did write that, earlier, but deleted bc it seemed too weird

They expected winds of Force 4, but sadly it quickly began increasing 6 to 7, locally gale 8.

Simon le bon yacht drum didn't participate in the 79 race but he like you said nearly drowned in the 85 race
