Virgin Olive oil bath solved all my dogs problems. I spent almost a Grand trying to fix my pit bulls hives / allergies with no result. Turns out a 5 dollar virgin olive oil from the market fixed everything. Wet your dog, shampoo, rinse, drench the dog in olive oil, rinse, and let the dog absorb the oil. It’ll take a couple hours until they aren’t oily. It acts like how cream acts on our skin. Do this 1-2 times a week, or every time you wash the dog. You can literally dip their paws in it if they’re chewing their paws.

I was thinking off trying that,at this moment in time, it's as bad as I have ever seen, and quite worrying!so u drench the dog, then do I leave it for a while or do I rinse it off straight away?! Thx

@@garymiller7428 use it just like you would shampoo or conditioner. Dog will be oily for a couple hours after. But will absorb it.

@@garymiller7428 I never really found out what my albino pit was allergic too, even after all those visits and all the money spent. But olive oil works. She stopped chewing her paws in a few days and her body was immaculate by the end of the month. I would wash her myself in the tub once a week. Shampoo, oil, shampoo. Towel her off, let her get some sun, make her lay on a towel on the floor. In 2 three hours she was good. Depending on how much oil I used. Their skin slowly sucks it all up. I even stoped with the dog shampoos. I use dove for me and so I used dove on her. I figured most of the shampoos are tested on dogs anyway. And she was happier with dove shampoo then all the expensive dog ones.

My pittie started getting hives around 18 months old. She is now 4 and gets hives every summer. Winter isn't an issue. If she rolls on the grass. The next day she's covered in hives on her head and back where she rolled. I try to keep her off grass & away from other plants. But we live I the mountains. She doesn't have any other issues and doesn't scratch at the hives like my American Bulldog did.

I experienced COVID that lasted around 12 days. I thought I was ok until I started to notice a loss of more hair than usual. Following some research, I've come to realize it’s from the stress my body went through during that time and also the shampoo I had been using. So I started doing meditation, yoga everyday and changed my shampoo and conditioner to littleextrraa coooconion anti hair fall kit. And now I don't face any hairfall.
Thanks for this video! I'm feeling so much better.

Hi Doc, I have a 8yo boxer/pit who developed chronic hives after a round of prednisone for chronic itching. Our awesome vet put him on Royal Canin HP formula and that worked for a couple weeks until he started vomiting daily and losing weight. The antivomit med (cerenia) gave him seizures and so we titrated off the HP formula because honestly, as a dietitian, I was surprised to see "vegetable oil" as one of the ingredients and quite honestly it was so palatable with artificial flavors that my dog would beg for it (which he's never done on a dry). Also he was drinking more water than he's done before just like clients do when they consume a high sodium diet. Is there any other hydrolyzed protein diet dry for allergies with better ingredients? I understand you want picky dogs to eat, but I literally had to start rinsing the HP formula to try and get some of those chemicals off the food because IDK if it was the crappy oil or artificial chemicals that was causing him to vomit. Once we transitioned him off the Royal Canin he stopped vomiting thankfully. I tried to file a complaint w Royal Canin but they've been slow to respond (unlike Zoetis who refunded me for the cerenia and were amazing to deal with). Thank you for putting out valuable content.

My son got a pit puppy at the same time I did. Both of them (not related) were 4 months old when we got them. His Nala broke out in hives, I thought from a bee sting. Mine has very bad gas. I assume Nala is allergic to bee's. I didn't realize that Jackson (my male) could have a food allergy that would cause his BAD BAD BAD gas. You can hear my boy fart from across the room & it sounds like a grown man. It has a terrible smell as well. I'm wondering what would be the best food. He's tried IAMS, BENEFUL, currently eating Purina & it's not too bad but still there. Is there a hypoallergenic diet I could try? If so, what is the name of the food? He is a rescue and I just want him to have the best life from when I got him.

Hi Doc! My white lab/pit mix gets hives. I know that it’s something in my backyard. My vet wants to prevent it with Benadryl 2x day. I’m worried about long term effects. I mentioned this but she believes the benefit outweighs the risk of hives. What do you think?

    • @DrLera
      @DrLera  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Although Benadryl is not known to be very effective against seasonal and food allergies if it's working for your dog great. Secondly Benadryl is not known to have side effects like the other allergy drugs such as apoquel or a topica. So I would say that's the lesser of the known evils. I recognize that drugs most likely do have some sort of long-term impact we just don't have the technology or data to be able to know those impacts just yet

I’m not a fan of the vet since they once told me he was gonna die from parvo. this would've been awesome, had my pittie been 6 mos younger. Not the case ~ my baby girl is on day 2 of her first breakout and she will be a year old on Aug 18. I have been with her almost 24\7 since she showed up last Oct. I'm gonna make a leap here because I'm her momma and unless she found buried treasure (actual trash or a tiny edible critter to gnaw) I'ma thinking her hives are bug bite related (we are at war with fleas- and losing because Advantage and Frontline just don't work anymore, and the trio pill is killing pets, so nope) but we've been battling fleas, the occasional tick ~ I DID remove a brown tick with a white spot from her foreleg tonight ~ and mosquitoes all summer long. Could a new plant have popped up along the edge of our creek? Could she have picked up something from the Goose Family that stops by daily for a couple pieces of bread or crackers, though sadly we're down to a single, almost grown gosling from the precious three hatchlings who were introduced to us by their proud parents...there is never contact between dog & birds; and she has never splashed in the creek for some reason, and we had to buy her a kiddie pool for the summer. OH, last thing, I bathed her with Dawn cos she had more fleas than normal and we'd used the last of her Vets+Best flea shampoo - but I've used Dawn a couple times before without any breakouts.
*SIGH. So I'm desperately hoping that someone could read thru all that and have an AHA moment as to where I could start sleuthing. Thanks for your kindness 💛❤️Thanks for your help ❤️💛

Before you do any thing give your dog a bath using tea tree oil in the shampoo. But don't over do the tea tree oil as it can have a damaging effect if over done. Any bug infestation will show up immediately and die. Treat the skin separately after you have eradicated any bug infestation. Put some tea tree oil in warm water to make a solution and spray over the dogs bed and all of your homes soft furniture and carpets make sure to get into all the corners and any folds. If the itching persists repeat a couple of times. There is nothing magic here tea tree is a fantastic healer and fleas and mites hate it literally to death.

More often then not we find that the tea tree oild causes irritation. Also the smell of tea tree is way to strong for dogs as their sense of smell is multiple times stronger then ours.

@@DrLera I did say not to over do it. It only takes a small drop. I have used this to good effect on both of my dogs in the past with no ill effects.

@@pacman4568 You weren’t giving the amount of tea tree oil until your last paragraph you noted to the doctor. Quantity is important and you have to state that is it 50-50 or is it a ratio of 1 to 75. It’s like giving a recipe have to know exactly how much you’re using, it all makes a difference.

Tea tree is too strong. I would avoid without proper guidance on accurate measurements

Why is this vet not talking about the damage the steroids do to the dogs kidneys and stomach aswell as making the dogs immune system trash your better of using a allergies kit avoiding what comes back on the test and getting the dog on some probiotics aswell

Because vets/vet school are funded by dog food industry and pharma. Drug, drugs and more drugs, just like for humans.
