Be ready to replace the plastic shade top. They last only one year. I have used something similar for my chickens and have one where one side is up against my house which doubled its length for a cat enclosure and a cat door in a window for my cats to get some sun and air. Chicken wire for a top. I am in the process of trying to enclose an old car tunnel after the top cover fell apart for a shade room for my seedlings and plants for this coming low desert summer.

Super idea, Robbie!👍 A few years ago, I had my hubby make a large PVC cube. He put sand in the vertical tubes to add weight. It's never blown over or away. I cover it with insect netting so I can grow zucchini and other squash that get attacked by the Vine Bore Moth and squash bugs. I slso use use it to grow Christmas potatoes...I put a sheet of plastic over it when the temp falls below 43 and fall the potato plants continue to grow.
My protective cube might be a choice for someone who can't afford that cool kennel garden.🙂
Robbie, thanks for another great idea!💕

My hubby started feeding stray kittens outside and as time passes the 10 cats stomp on everything I tried to grow. They layed down on my potted sugar peas killing them. Now I can garden again!!! At only 6 feet tall I dont need HOA approval because it cant be seen over my fence. This is a great sturdy solution for me. Thanks for posting

I had 1 for chickens, if that is the intended use, putting hardware cloth or chicken wire on the top is a necessity. Too many night predators climb and go through the top. I found out the worst way. Also, some chicken wire or something at least 3 feet up around it. If you only have a few chickens, it works well. I am speaking from experience. I do hope this helps?

Have a terrible Norway rats issue. They are very intelligent. Got in under house crawl space destroyed the attic insulation. Going to cost a pretty penny to fix the damage. It is a health hazard according to the pest control company. I guess we will have to do it. Never had a rat issue during my whole life (77). It’s a big expensive learning curve. I just could cry about this. Just have to pay what it costs. Ugh. Can rats get in totes on chairs don’t want to feed them. Maybe dog kennel would work for us. Thanks for your gardening advise.
Praying, hoping 2024 will be a good year for us. I do believe in growing a garden is right thing to do with health and cost issues we all face. Keep on finding ways to help the elder gardener. God help us all.

I took your video and ran to Lowe's to see what I could find to remedy my nightmare pigeon/dove problems while feeding the songbirds here in Las Vegas, NV. Purchased 5 fence panels with 2"x4" openings to make a 3' x 3' square and placed the 5th panel on top to form a cage. I hung the bird feeder from the center and now my little guys can eat in peace without large birds (including hawks) or animals bothering them. Wish I could insert a picture. I can move it anywhere and may add some plastic or tarp to protect against the cold in winter and sun in the summer for tender plants.

My husband made a concrete pad and made a roof (A frame, for the snow). He also bolted it to the concrete. I’m definitely going to use it for some type of gardening project. I’m thinking of putting aluminum or something the rodents can’t get through or grab onto, along the bottom about 2/3 feet up. Currently we’re using it for our daughter’s pups, when we’re all outside.

I can see so many applications for a small grow-house like this. I have found several plant stands and ass't wire shelf units left over from yard sales and carried them home for free - you could outfit this little house with all sorts of things, and even hang a few very lightweight baskets from the center. I have lots of small critters in my area, but have finally just started growing things they don't eat; I mostly grow blackberries and pollinator-attracting flowers anymore. I can see using this as a shade house in summer and a greenhouse in winter, so it could be VERY useful year round. Also, adding another unit to the back or one side if you need more space would be relatively simple to do.

I would make it higher. Maybe 3 high cinder blocks filled with concrete and use carriage bolts to bolt down the blocks through the metal somehow. Makes it harder to lift up and safe from the wind. For the roof put up clear plastic polycarbonate. I would get a lock and lock it every night from thieves from stealing the veg. 😂
It might sound too over the top with the lock but it’s a common occurrence. Just sayin.

I have one which I built around my fig tree and blueberry bush because everything was eating my figs. That one's out of PVC pipe and I covered it with poultry netting the little birds, little rats, and mice. We're walking straight through the poultry netting. But it kept the big eaters out. Brilliant idea. Robbie! So many uses for this its mind boggling.
For those living in windy areas do this. Use cinderblocks all around making a foundation. Fill in blocks with cement with rebar pounded into the ground and up to the height of cage. Then aggressively wire or attach somehow the metal frame to the rebar. So the rebar is in the ground and cinderblock and attached to the wire frame. Will have to make an extension to the bottom of the door unless you don’t mind stepping over cinder block. That’s a more permemt solution. But it’s a great idea to test out different ways of setting it up.
For myself, I would wrap it up in Tulle maybe 1/2 way up to keep the critters out. So many options! Thanks again. Good Job! 👍🏻♥️

Great video / idea Robbie (a.k.a. Mother Nature). You think about everybodies gardening issues don't you ! 💜
My major problems are Rabbits, cows reaching over fences and pushing them down and my fox (pet) that jumps over my pot plants and knocks off branches. (Slugs - they're everywhere, they've been extremely bad for the last five years.)
I was thinking if you got a second one, you could put them side by side (with a gap in-between) and move the two walls that are closest to each other, extend them towards each other and turn the two into one large one, that's eight panels in length by four panels wide. I hope that makes sense. You would just need some chook wire for the (middle extension) roof and two pieces of pipe to hold up the centre beams.
I can see yours with three layers of growth. The first layer in the ground, and the second and third layer built up with bricks and planks of wood, just like the little shelf your standing next to in the last shot of this video.
You could also hang light plants from the centre beam and around the outside, like you said.
You could hang (capped off) rain guttering, around the top, on the outside, for more plants or birds.
I'd love to see it with solar fairy lights on it.
( l'm hoping this all makes sense.)
Much love from OZ, to you and Gary. 👍🌿💜🇦🇺

Would love to see it with four sides all the way round so that it would be as wide ad it is long.
We have a dog at home that would climb that an get out.
He is an unbelievable climber. 😂😂

I have a problem with Odie getting into my tomato plants. He stripped all my brandywine tomatoes. Grrr. I have a section of my garden gated but this might be what I need in another part of my yard. Thanks Robbie!

That is a nice kennel, and it is great for many things, but chickens maybe not. It is NOT snake proof if you have chickens. We have lots of snakes around here, and it is difficult to keep snakes out of the chicken coops. Tractor Supply Store has those here, but they are way more expensive with them.

Just to let you know that rabbits 🐇 will probably fit through the mesh. They can get through my chain link fence I installed around my garden… $1;500 later, I have to modify my garden next year. 🙃

I have lots of ideas. I just bought fruit trees that are sensitive to cold and I'm in Maryland zone 7b. I can elevate it on concrete blocks to make it a taller greenhouse.

We have a similar set up attached to our coop...thrice the size...that we use during the day as a chicken run. I have critter issues every night, so I should be using mine for plants too! Duh. Why didnt i think of that before? Ill be looking forward to seeing you grow in yours and look for ideas for mine that will work with my chickens.

Keep your more delicate or “risky” plants on the inside, then line the whole outside with the chair totes. That’s be a lotta food in a very small footprint!👍 Love it!!
