A six-episode digital series, SHREDDERS OF METAL is the first talent competition show dedicated to heavy metal music. Seven guitarists will showcase their shredding skills for a panel of three judges: ALEX SKOLNICK (TESTAMENT), DANIEL DEKAY (DIEMONDS, BANGERTV) and SAM DUNN (BANGER FILMS CO-FOUNDER). The series host is comedian BLAYNE SMITH.

To me, Sim's harmonic and melodic ideas and transitions were the most creative and beautiful.

laertesdd i believe he did more like old school stuff ( hey dude, why no andy larocqueish neoclassical passages?) and in the end it just got a little boring. There was no development and tech variation in the solo, it just felt all the same way. What do we like the best in maiden solos? Player changing, when dave's fast legato is being replaced by adrian's more blueasy and experimental approach. This performance reminds me of a time i saw zakk wylde live, he was all plain boring, jackin his guitar off for 15 mins straight. Anyway, Sim, you tried hard. Keep up the good work and greets from a fellow King Diamond fan :)
Who else wold love to see a bunch of people who’ve never played guitar ever get coached by some legends every day for a month and then have the new players face off to see who is the best?

Sim Diamond also despite the fact you didnt get to go the final, I really liked/loved your experimenting and searching the harmonics with the over under technique, man it makes me think directly of MAB and Tom morello. Well done, never the less the fact you didnt get to play final. You still rocked! I wouldnt be able to even play to things less sloppy if I amped/PED'd my hands man. Those few faults imho dont undermine the melodics and possibilities found! Rock on man! The over under thing would make me give a whole figure more at the scoreboard lol. Its just epic af!

(IMO) Frankie deserve to win the competion, Alex deserve the second place anyway, but Sim OWNED this challenge.

Apparently I don't know what great guitar work sounds like because I thought the second guy destroyed the other dudes. But what do I know.
frankie was the clear winner and it wasn't close. more variety, cleaner playing, more creative phrasing
Advanced Form I agree, Frankie is the cleanest and most skilled, and he's been destroying the others in every round before this. But in this round, I thought he started off amazingly, but he lost me in the middle. I dunno how, he was sort of being repetitive and wasn't using much of the fretboard, whereas Sim had me the whole way with all his sloppy greatness.
None of the solos were that exciting. Frankie had the cleanest playing, though. I'd say Sim should have been 2nd. But he and Alex both had some slop (i.e. just pick fast and move their fingers around so it looks like a scale). Kudos to Sim though on the clean sweeps and the over/under technique (ala MAB).

My wife and I really enjoyed the show especially leaning how we faired with the judges.
For the first time I do not agree with the jury. IMHO Sim was the best in this challenge. Maybe not the best in technic to Frankie but I found the solo fitted better to the background track (it was more a part of it) and it was by far his best performance.

I wasnt a fan of Sims tone before this video. It just sounded so good in the mix.
Sim's tone is the classic tharsh metal tone unfortunately thrash solo is meant to come fast and go fast (at least the way he started with just the pick slide build up) like thunder it is not meant to stay around.
I loved Sim's solo at the beginning and from his face Alex did too... but unfortunately it was too long and the longer it got the tired I got of listening this excluding the little mistakes he did here and there towards the end.
I prefer Sim's tone over Frankie's but Frankie's playing is on another level and had a better understanding of the concept of this challenge.
Funky Express, I agree Frankie is on another level. Since like the 2nd episode he's been my bet on winning. My favorite tone though has been Alex, he has a chorus or something and I like that sound a lot. It reminds me of Phil from Machine Head and of course Zakk Wylde, he doesn't play like either of them but his tone reminds me of their solo tone.
Alex skates by with a crap tonne of gain, chorus and reverb to cover up his mistakes. Pretty sure Sim wouldn't have been eliminated if they all had a level playing field.
That gain was so unbearable to listen to

That’s true, Sim was the best, if I were there, I would’ve give him atleast a 9.5/10.
I thought his was the most emotive and pretty unique. It had some sloppy parts but it wasnt bad at all and that shouldn’t generally define his piece. But in terms of technicality its pretty obvious who’s the best.
He did make a couple mistakes but so do the pros. Solos from show to show sometimes vary and nobody is perfect. I know its a competition so. Like I said judging is subjective. These guys are all pretty damn good

that said Frankie dominated both of them very soundly. we already know the winner.
Sim also did better than Alex in my opinion. Sim overextendes quite a bit and has some really sloppy sweeps he is really adament in trying everytime. His tone is also very trebly and weak. Alex is all reverb and seems to be the one that has the least knowledge over the scales, modes and fretboard. His fast runs are quite unprecise and more akin to running his fingers fast over the fretboard. Sim's string skipping part was his best. If he had dropped the sweep attempt and his tapping he could maybe have made a more cohesive piece that would have made more of a impact. All in all I think Sim has delievered more solid performances than Alex in every episode.
Hmm, not sure how can you tell about texture and flair from Sim, when Alex did have mostly noise and tremolo picking techniques, just try to get as much as notes as possible, and those pick slides etc... Sim shown arpegios, several different scales, shred runs, melody, he was much much clearer than Alex on notes and technique. His only bad point was that he started immediately and didn't give himself some time to boost into song. Sim should have gotten at least 8.5 from each of the judges ...

Frankie has incredible tone. Idk if that’s just from clarity from his fingers or if I just prefer the tone he uses overall

yea probably a mix of both, his playing is so much cleaner than the other competitors
I like Alex. I think his playing is great as well, but he has a gainier thrashy tone and Frankie’s tone is just tighter. Again, that could also be clarity of playing. But Alex’s tone hurts him in my opinion
Sim deserved to stay on this one. Yes he needs a little work but man he was shredding his ass of on this one and he deserved a better score.

It's obvious this was all shot on the same day. Every episode should have atleast a day break so the guitarists can prepare and I think that will go a long way to fix some of the complaints this has been getting.
Victor Koekenbier I agree. But since this is the first season I'm confident those little things will be sorted out for the next competition!
Budget guys. I think for a youtube only production this I great. Remember only 140.000 subs and below 1 million views a month.
I personally think its better because its shot on the same day. It keeps everyone on their toes so their abilities can really be tested. I was pulling for Sim, but his playing felt disjointed here and a few of his bends were questionable. The other guys felt more polished.
Think about the production costs and the time Alex Skolnick had for the show. Of course there's gonna be a few misses given that this is a new idea and they are testing it for the first time. Im pretty sure that they are aware of the flaws and they will fix them if (when) they release new content of this style.
I'm not hating guys, just trying to give some constructive criticism. I don't disagree that budget is an issue and the first time will have some flaws.

Sim got shafted in this episode, his composition was way better than Alex's! Yea he flubbed a note or two but at least he was shredding while Alex played mostly rhythm riffs! I was shocked when he scored so low! Rigged!
Ray H he blew his load. Start slow then end it big. He was repetitive.

Finally they used backing tracks! The challanges before this one could've allowed them to use backing tracks I believe they could have been so much better...

Would have been nice to see Sim and Frankie go at it for the crown. I think the creativeness of Sim's melodic playing would have given him the crown. Would love to see more episodes. Hoping I can enter the next contest. I wonder if they would take a older guitarist? One could only hope!

I’m certainly not one to critique any of these dudes. All three of them outplay the hell out of me. I’m just happy they did a series like this and hope they continue to do more! Awesome they got Alex Skolnick to judge!
These last 3 are all kick ass guitar players. So some days you might be off and judging is pretty much subjective. Sim came in 3rd but that dude is a bad ass on the guitar. This is a great competition!! I'm glad I found this channel to be able to watch it! All 3 of these guys are winners on the guitar!

Mike Stahl - I often feel the same way...but I still don't do it :-) . I just use it as inspiration to attempt to improve myself.
With consistent practice of around 2-3 hrs a day with a metronome and backing tracks, I guarantee you'll surpass most of them within 3 years of playing. Especially if you're a younger guy. The key is to do it right from the very beginning and not to rush it..notice how most of the contestants can't even stay on beat..
Maybe its the beer.. But can i please be a judge on this show. Sim should have won. Love Frankies tone! And Alex's attack, but as far as flow. Sim won.

Okay, in episodes 1,2 and 3 I wasn't really feeling anyone's devotion to the instrument, Frankie stood out like a giant, but this time Alex fucking killed it, great stuff. And just when I thought we had good finals between Frankie and Alex, Sim came in with everything he had and made this decision harder than previously expected, great stuff as well. Frankie's playing was almost impeccable, perfect, but he struggled with the composition this time, as well as in episode 4, so this is why it's a hard decision, everyone did very good in this episode but I think everything turned out just the way it was supposed to, Alex will need a small miracle to win though

I agree with the rest of the comments here, Sim had note per note more intense playing and granted, he lost some steam near the end, he was jamming way more than the first player and the last one, I will note I liked all three and thought this was an on the spot playing where you had to really dig deep in front of that panel. Playing in front of Alex would be intense, he is one of my guitar icons for me.

I'm an 80s thrash metal guy and Alex seems like a thrash guitarist to me. So even though he isn't getting much love, I'm glad he made it. :) But Sim was way more ambitious and probably would have won if he didn't mess up the notes.
