I’m pretty sure those had single ring pistons originally so that was probably changed at some point. It looks like a dual ring. Also, if that cylinder was sleeved then it was definitely taken apart. They were plated from the factory, not sure if you can bore it without sleeving it.
We appreciate you kicking your ass off to try to fire this bad boy up for our entertainment lol! So for all of us thanks Clint. Hope all is well. Can’t wait for the next vid!
Love your videos man. I've learned so much from watching your channel! I'm currently building a 1989 KTM 125 D-XC. It's gonna be such a cool bike when I'm done.
That was the first thing I said when you started kicking it over bro I said it just doesn't have enough compression to start 🤷😐👍..great video bro..Mike's a awesome guy.. he also helps me out a lot lol 🏁💯😎👍
after having a cr 500 i could stand on kick stater and would not budge on compression stroke -- i think yours is low on compression-- great video -- she will be a nice bike whan done i always like the green look on the KX"S
first time i saw yours videos was that 500 kawi snapping your leg as you were tryingto start that thing take care and use the boots lesson learning ... thanks for keep on the good and funny work .. ... try the jetting check the carb and of course check the stator that was submerged in petrol for decades
I love the 85 and 86 KXs. I've got an 1986 kx 125 and an 85 kdx 80 that I'm building from ebay parts. Originally I purchased the 80 in a box thinking it was a kx until I notice later that it had no water pump. Oh well. I will try to make it nice again regardless.
Hey what are you talk about. IM subscribed and enjoying your vids:) . Heck I even like them as well. Im starting the journey on a 04 yz450F. ITs a monster of a YZ
Clint 86 kx 500's are Kawasaki electrofusion coated , they aren't nikasil or steel liners so you don't bore them , I've had many kx and factory sr500's including the ex jobe 86 one that is at pro circuit headquarters , I didn't see although I nipped out to the toilet during the video did you sort the carb float and pilot jet? Also the spark plugs once fouled with fuel never trust them , replace them for what it costs , I'm not trying to teach grandma to suck eggs like, love your channel lee from uk
Definitely Have to Go through the Ignition Stater CDI, Coil Copper wires get Corrosion Green Shiizz Growing in the wires and Cut a few Millimetres off the Spark plug wire see if that’s got Green Shittz 🦠 Growing along with the Piston & Rings refresh

Great efforts nonetheless 👏
Been waiting for 4 or 5 years for him to build that 86 kx250
When I was 18 I had a 86 kx 250 and I loved that bike
I always do a compression test before and after tear down. Good to know if it has compression when tearing it down
Believe it or not you actually have some viewers in Ireland. Me being one of them 😂. Happy Paddy's Day. Even tho it was yesterday ☘💪
Awesome bike, I look forward to you getting this bad boy running. Keep it coming

2:49 you can see the bikes suspension squat from the centrifugal force of the engine
Great Chanel Great Build😊

Thanks brother really do appreciate your videos
Mighty effort though! Spark did seem a bit weak. I've been looking for that rubber boot for a '87 kx125 for ages. And an airbox cover too.
I never saw spark when you checked it before the teardown
That's the way old bikes go sometimes. But, at least you'll have piece of mind that absolutely everything is good inside that engine.
Who here is nuts aboot vintage 2 stroke dirt bikes?
You're an animal Clint! You made short work of that bro.
You always find some nice bikes
You sure the timing is on and the stator is working correctly and make sure the kill switch is fkd and not letting it start

Lund, any spare cr500 motor laying around? I’m in need of one for a project I want to build. Let me know. Thanks.
Just need the rings change that’s all
Clint I have a 2003 KX500 with about 10 hours on it that I bought brand new in 2003 it looks and runs like new if you are interested let me know.

Top end time brother, and a foot massage
Good candidate!
hey lund if you need a 86 crank i have a good one from a 86 motor i parted was holding it for my 88 but didnt realize that year has a longer rod
Hopefully your ok after kicking Hulk Green machine what a monster😊
To get the kickstart off next time open the kickstart over the bolt washer and wind the bolt out the washer will pull the kickstart off for you ❤
Cool!
The fact that you were kicking it without wearing riding boots should tell you it is low compression.
When they kick back boy doesn't that hurt 😂
Happy St. Patrick's day

Only 500cc off road machine s my favourite😊
Stop talking so much man it's getting boring, I really love your channel but seriously do what you do best bud build bikes and take us for the ride.
I have a 2017 kx450f I love to death but every since I got that bike I had more problems with it then anything
Please don’t sing or try to dance… Just do what you do so well.
Can't stand scraping gaskets. Do what I did, get a $10 pneumatic die grinder from harbor freight and get the gasket remover pads. Thank me later.

Sorry bro but I stopped watching at 25 seconds.
