To identify the plantaris muscle in an easy way :
The patient will be in prone position, and I will put my hand on his heel, and ask him to make flexion of his knee joint against my resistance to reach ~90° , finally I will put my finger in the popliteal space between the two heads of gastrocnemius muscle, I will feel a diagonal belly muscle, that's the plantaris muscle.
I tried it on my brother and it was a great experience.
