    Thank you all for 10K 🎉 hope the growth continues, and that my videos have been helping you level up 💪🏽💯 - leave a comment below (I’ll do my best to reply, even if a bit delayed!).
    I feel like the concepts in this video are pretty straightforward, but it’s the simple things that work best - and sometimes we either aren’t aware of them, or we just need a reminder to get back on track - so thanks for watching and I hope it helps xx

    After watching more than 50 vids about how to be productive, how to focus, how to end procrastination, how to make to do lists, how to achieve goals, how to study efficiently blablablabla. You are the only single person, like i am being serious, ONLY single person that gave tips that are different and actually usefull. As a person who cant finish more than 2 tasks from to do list and cant focus more than 3 hours in entire day, I managed to make 8/12 tasks from my to do lists, and studied 5h 25mins with actually understanding it. Thank you so much bro, thank you. Just came to thank you before sleep. I appreciate you.

    I’d like to add for ADHD (though I’m sure it has merit even for neurotypical people) an extra 5th tip: body doubling. Half the point of sitting in a library or cafe to study is body doubling, but even at home one can find ways online to study and complete tasks with others present. As a med student with ADHD, _this_ was the game-changer for me, though I have to agree that I need to get back onto refocus meditation since I’ve been lazy with it but it was also very effective when I practiced it

    • @Koroistro
      @Koroistro 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +34

      Body doubling is effective but I think it has a critical problem, and it's a problem shared by many coping mechanisms of that kind:
      External dependency.
      Don't get me wrong, some dependency isn't bad and it's necessary. Such as my adhd medication or my glasses.
      However, getting overly used to things like body doubling is going to have your mind learn that you need body doubling to work effectively, while you want to teach yourself *intrinsic* motivation, as in ways to motivate yourself from within.
      ADHD makes us prone to be stimulus-bound, so we readily rely on external stimulation, however internal stimulation can be boundless

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Good to hear you have other things that help too! For sure, changes in environment do seem to help, although my friends with ADHD (and myself included) tend to avoid relying on things external to us to focus / study. I hope you get back into the refocusing and I hope it helps - thanks for engaging!

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I feel like i agree with this - it's always good to have a strong core of intrinsic motivation to do things - external sources of motivation aren't as stable or reliable! Thanks for commenting!

    I haven’t even finished watching the video, but that timer idea is genius!!
    I was thinking “that first point of setting a goal doesn’t work for me. I always have a specific goal, but I can never focus long enough to finish it.” But, maybe it’s because those goals feel too far and too daunting, or maybe like “I’ll reach it eventually even if I get distracted right now.” So, timing how long I can focus sets that focus time itself as a goal! Like a high score in a game! It feels achievable because you know you’ve already reached that time, so how hard would it be to go a few more seconds above it? Or a few more next time? And so on until an eternity of focus!

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Exactly, it's good to gamify it a bit since we like to reach new targets and I find this way to be extremely effective to gradually improve over time - I hope it helps and you see an improvement in your focus!

I've been working long hours but having a hard time completing some projects, and feeling very frustrated by how slow progress was. Maybe you need motivation to help you do work, coz there's the inherent barrier to study due to the energy it requires - I have a video on study motivation coming out this saturday which might help. Also though at the same time, if you have school during that time and feel like you learn enough during it, maybe you don't actually need to study outside of it?

    The timer trick is working amazingly for me already, thank you so much! One thing I’ve found that helps as well is for the amount of time I spend taking a break to be limited by how long I was focusing for. It stops me from saying “I’ll just take a quick five minute break” then getting distracted for hours on end, and it also makes it fun to have a tangible reward for focusing longer!
    It definitely helps to not be too strict about it too. Like, if I feel my focus drifting but I immediately bring it back, I keep the timer going because if I leave to reset it, I’ll just lose my focus completely. It’s like with meditation! Lots of people get frustrated and give up because their minds keep wandering, but, that’s the point. To learn how to bring your mind back from wandering, not to prevent it from doing so in the first place. So if I can bring my focus back, there’s no need to punish it by resetting the timer, and I can keep on going

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! You could do it daily literally once a day for it to help. Also, i think I'll reframe your last question - why would you not be able to spend only 13 minutes purely for your own good (that isn't meant to sound blunt its a genuine question hahaha)? Coz i think it's something that's done purely for you, and nobody else, so we should be able to spare at least that much time for ourselves, if that makes sense. But, i guess you could try with a shorter duration and see if it works.
      Usually when i meditate normally (outside of for focusing), it's minimum 15mins, any less feels too short for me to get the benefits out of it

    Assalamu Alaykum, Salim. Been watching your videos for a while as I have national Med entrance exam in February. Your video on how to read faster has significanty changed my study plan. Keep making these. Pray for my exam. May Allah help you and me to the right path.
